Nick - Why post that Jessica came in second "to a troupe of break-dancing Japanese-American kids." What if they'd been an African American troupe? Why not just "a troupe of break-dancing kids"? Sorry - the reference just makes me wince. pv

I agree. We are all Americans first. This kind of reference is what encourages sub-cultures within our culture.

I listened to her music on her myspace page and all I can say is WOW! What an amazing
young songstress. This young lady is a breath of fresh air when compared to the type
of music that is out there today, it gives me hope that creativity can still succeed.

Quite impressive indeed! I will be buying her album from iTunes..........

Hi there Nick,

I really like your story about Jessica and her music, and as far as the statement about the Japanese America kids, I don't think it's a big deal, I am also of Asian decent and I'm not offended. These people need to get a life. The article is about Jessica and her wonderful music, that's all.

i honestley don't think any harm was done. I completly understand what was being said. I am sure these japanese kids are great when it c omes to break dancing but.....This little girl is not only good in singing but she also has a great talent for writing her music with lyrics and sounds and than to top it off she plays the tunes. This child is a prodigy right here in Torrance!!

I saw her perform once at Live at the Lounge and thought she was incredible then. When I looked at the paper this morning, I thought "hey that is the girl I saw at the lounge!" It's good to see that others are taking notice of this girls talents.

Kudos to Nick who wrote the piece and to the Daily Breeze for risking to put a 13 year old smack on the front page! Talent like this should never be ignored.

The last two comments are pretty unbelievable, but everyone has the right to express their feelings. But why criticize Jessica? she did not offend anyone. Apparently it is her talent and a gift for writing music that caught the attention of the Daily Breeze in the first place. Personally I think there are too many bruised ego's out there.......
And after looking at her myspace, it sure looks like she has a lot of teenagers listening to her music who are sending her complimentary messages. So not everyone listens to Rap and hiphop.

Rod -- not a teenager but a young 22

Rap, hip-hop, whatever, is not music. It's nothing more than cheerleading soundtracks.

Regardless of how old or how young a person is, if you dont listen to music with your heart, youre not getting the real meaning of it. Im 43 years old, have freinds my age, older and younger and we ALL enjoy listening to Jessicas music. I have her CD. Ive listened to music since I was a kid. I will say this, as many artist as Ive listened to, Ive never in my 43 years heard any one of them who could deliver a song to the listeners as much as Jessica Lombard. Alot of people can sing, but it takes real talent to deliver a message while singing, talent that gets straight into your heart and stays there. Thank you Mike and Kelley for supporting Jessica in her career. And thank you Jessica for sharing your talents with everyone.
