We had a guy in Los Alamos years ago tried enforcing his 3 ft the law allowed that cars must maintain as they passed him, so he clamped a stick to his bike with a flag on it sticking out exactly 3 ft on the left side. When we'd catch him crossing the bridge during rush hour traffic in the morning, we'd cruise by close enough to break his little stick. Man, he'd throw fingers, yell at the top of his lungs, face all red, funny as hell. I heard somebody knocked the guy off his bike one day and he decided to drive to work in the future. Smart dude.

The problem with bicycles is the bikers themselves, of course. Most don't obey traffic signals, but insist on their rights to the highway. They're going only 10% of the rated speed sometimes, and expect others to not pass, creating dangerous backups. They ride side by side talking and taking up the whole lane. I swear, it's deliberate at times. So, good luck not getting run over, dudes.

First it was the mountain biker crowd complaining about the motorcycles and ATV's riding on the trails (created by the dirt bikes). They got us all banned from many trails we had made and used for years. They cried to the BLM that these were their trails and claimed it to be about safety. Hey, if you are dumb enough to ride a bicycle on a dirt bike trail, you deserve the consequences of your actions. Now this. Their hypocracy knows no bounds... look for cars to be banned from some streets used by these "bikers"(lol)soon.

I personally think if you cant pedal the speed limit, you have no business being on the road. Stick to roads with bike lanes, otherwise speed up, or move over. Riding on the line drives me nuts. I refuse to move. I won't move over or change lanes. You want to ride on the road on a bike, your willing to risk your life like that, i'm not gonna stress it either then.

I am an avid rider. However, there is no way in hell you would catch me riding my bicycle on the road. It's extremely dangerous to the rider, as well as those driving vehicles. Make them pay for insurance and registration and watch their attitudes change.

Good point. I can't believe people will ride bikes along the side of the road with cars going by at highway speeds, talking on cell phones, texting, curling eye lashes, putting on lipstick. How many of us have gotten distracted and veered over onto the shoulder of the road before correcting? The biker may have legal right to the edge of the road, but they may as well be playing Russian Roulette.

I see your IP is from DallASS TexASSS, and it doesn't surprise me that you come from a city that is listed as one of the fattest in America. Don;t believe me?

So humorous to see such overfed inbred idiots like you and others in this forum lamblast those who care about their health & wellness, because you have none or lack the desire to. Then you Texan rednecks find a way to vent your frustrations over people like us, since we intimidate you in public. Yeah c'mon, Bike Hater...keep ranting your mentally-challenged statements, and show a photo of yourself for us to laugh and belittle among us. Same goes for you Farmington/Texan-copied rednecks who are guzzling beers and riding the ATV after reading this post.

Have mercy, another Texan IP with an idiot banging the keyboard.

These statements definitely have no bearing on cyclists, it's all about reckless drivers behind the wheel! Can you all please look in the mirror and start correcting your driving habits, before you plow into another policemen while they are keeping America's roads safe by issuing a traffic ticket on the shoulder? Sounds like most of you are guilty of involuntary manslaughter, before you wake up from bed each morning!

Major correction, DamnDave:
Motorcycles ARE allowed, and always have been on local dirt trails in and around Farmington. Don't sway forum readers to think they are banned, that's totally false information. Those trails were actually created in the 1960s, and everyone who uses them should appreciate them for doing that. Motos also make good trail maintanence after rain and snowy weather. However, ATVs are only allowed on designated trails, and not those used my mtn bikers. The ATV has been a total sore spot for many locations across the USA.

DammitDave, you can grab your dirtbike and go rip on the trails, no problem. Seems you're sore about ATV use, that has created more destruction starting in the 1990s, that would in comparison take decades from thousands of dirtbikers riding every to accomplish.

They say 3/4 of motorcycle accidents are the fault of the vehical hitting the bike. Now as a Harley rider myself on these roads at these ods, surely suports the comon sence, not to ride a pedal bike on them. There are plenty of residential streets much safer, and will get you to the same location.

Thanks, COtrails.
I'm fairly certain "Dangit_Dave" is not an actual moto person as well, since he ranted that dirt bikes were not allowed on mtn bike trails. Any dirt biker knows that's not true. DammitDave is probably just a troll who knows nothing, just felt a twisted compulsion to reply. Only on Durango's local trails are all motos not allowed.

Cars are big and heavy. Bicycles are small and light. Driver sits inside of big heavy car. Bicyclist sits on top of small and light bicycle. If big and heavy car hits small and light bicycle guess who comes out ahead. It's just like letting a group of midgets run with the bulls in Paloma. The only good thing about bicycles on the streets are the tight fitting spandex.

Texan IP, yes, Texan, No.

I still think unless the bike can keep up with the posted speed limit it needs to be kept to other areas, not the sides of the highway traveling 55+ mph. Im a good driver, no wrecks, dont talk on my cell, what if I am traveling 55mph down the road, come across a cyclist. Said cyclist, hits a rock, or gets a flat or any number of things thats going to cause this biker to fall or swerve into the road. I by no fault of my own, will have taken the life of another human being. I hate when kids ride bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, down the side of the street for the same reason. Its great exercise, its good for your health and the environment, yes. But keep it where your not being a traffic hazard!

Sorry, wrong on all counts, dude. Not a Texan. Lived in Los Alamos 48 yrs. Not fat. And more civilized than you apparently. A few posters who object to bikers brings out a guy like you with a big chip on your shoulder, calling everyone names. Guess you figure only bikers can be smart or in shape. We'll probably read your obit one of these days. Oh, you'll be within your legal rights at the time of death, but you'll still be dead as a mackerel.

It's enlightening to hear the Grim Reaper actually does exist, donning robe and sickle. I'll have into call the Coast to Coast AM radio show, and tell them about this amazing discovery. And not only did the Grim Reaper materialize into our dimensional reality, but is also glowing from radioactive waste when you trudeoned through Los Alamos's canyons and arroyos in your attempt to be hidden from public view. Mr Reaper, do you have any more prophetic epitaths to share with the general public?

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Pisces

If you-know-who has been getting on your nerves recently, matters will soon come to a head and force you to take drastic action. As Mars turns tail in your sixth house, you might finally lose your rag with someone at work who's been testing your patience to the limit. Stand your ground if you feel you're being messed about in some way. Clear the air if needs be, but don't create a really nasty atmosphere by throwing an eye-popping tantrum. Take care of any infections.
