Shady Lorain Cab Company

Somebody should be made aware of the practices of Safe and Reliable Cab and Limo company on Colorado Avenue. The owner of the company, Alfred Milcarek, not only has a huge employee turn over but he pays all of his employees "up under the table" to avoid paying employment taxes. This also avoids taxes towards Lorain City. He has a few cab drivers that collect social security benefits and he pays them cash so that they can continue to receive their benefits. Again, this takes away from the people that pay the taxes in this city. And people wonder why Lorain is going down the toilet. There are a number of companies in Lorain that pay their employees "up under the table", avoiding taxes coming into this once great city. Alfred Milcarek also knowingly is committing a crime by paying his employees "up under the table" and not filing taxes on them. None of his employees receive 1099s for the money that they earn from him. Why is it right for them to not have to pay taxes, federal, state OR city? It isn't right.

Safe and Reliable Cab and Limo Company also does not follow the rules of most trucking companies when it comes to their drivers getting sleep. Some of the drivers as well as dispatchers and others work 18-24 hours STRAIGHT with no sleep. Tell me, is this safe for anybody? I certainly would not want to be picked up by a limo driver or a cab driver that had not slept in 24 hours. There should be laws enforced regarding that. The dispatchers are often called to drive cabs when a cab driver does not show up for his 12 hour shift. This making the dispatcher work way over their required 12 hour shift. Sure the money is good but what about the safety of the customer. The beginning of this year, one of the cab drivers wrecked a cab by driving into a parked car. She had worked 20 hours straight without sleep. The year before that another driver rearended another vehicle due to lack of sleep. One of these days a customer is going to get seriously injured. Where and when does it stop.

This cab and limo company also employs drivers that do not have drivers licenses. There is no such licenses check made by this company. Isn't there a law against that also?

For a company that claims to be so reputiable, Alfred Milcarek sure does run a shady place. I know this, I use to work there!!

Did you know that Al Mielcarek is the brother of that firefighter, Jimmy "Mill", that robbed the bank earlier this year. Big drug head!!

You sound like a disgruntled employee who didn’t get a raise so you bash the boss to get back at him. Did you pay your taxes while working at this cab company? What are you doing to better yourself in Lorain?

Yep, paid my taxes, local, city and state. Probably the only one there that did pay them. Safe and Reliable does not give raises, tells what you know about cab and limo business. Cabbing you get to keep half of what you make on your shift minus your lease fees and limo you get a flat rate depending on what limo you drive + your tips. What have I done to better myself in Lorain, I MOVED OUT OF LORAIN!! Bought a house in Westlake and paying my taxes as well as mortgage, not going to forclose on my home like the rest of Lorain is.

Disgruntled employee indeed, I agree, like they always say there is two sides to the story. Us Cab Drivers are self employed and are responsible for our own taxes which I do file. Al Mielcarek dosne't pay us we pay a lease to him. As far as the limo drivers they also are self-employed so there fore where is he cheating at paying his taxes. Do you think in this day and age if he didn't pay his fair share taxes he would still be in business. Now for working extreme hours thats a joke sometimes you may go a few hours without a call and thats when you take whats called a catnap. Its not like I'm driving 14 hours straight, without plenty of breaks who are you kidding you slanderous individual. Instead of talking about all the so-called bad Al Mielcarek has done for Lorain lets focus more on the good.
1. Runs a productive transportation company with the nicest cabs in the county (Lincoln Town Cars)better known as black car sedan service in other cities.
2. despite the cost of these better cars and gas always on the increase Has he raised his prices?? NO NO
3. All the countless charities and fundraiser that he has helped with donations or pro-bono transportation.
4. Not only grew up in Lorain but stayed in Lorain to operate a business owns property, as well as started a family with his wife and son in a home in Lorain.
As far as the high turnover its usually because they lose the licsene or are no longer able to be covered under thier inshurance
and once they straighten it out they come back.
I'm proud to say that I work at Safe and Reliable and I'm sure glad that you and all your negetivity no longer works here.

Well you dont get to where Al is without making a few people jealous. This person talks about an employee that work a so called 20 hour shift and fell asleep and hit a parked car. What this person dosen't tell you is that is was her that wrecked a new van along with a telephone pole and Al never made this person pay for any of the damages. What she also dosen't tell you is that her spouse is a very dedicated and valuable member of the Safe and Reliable Family. And instead of worrying about Safe and Reliable house-keeping she should take care of her own problems at home.

I have know Alfred Mielcarek for over 10 years.. I have been in the taxi business for that long in Lorain County starting when WATTS Taxi was Open.In all my years of Dispatching taxi cabs in Lorain County The Dispatchers have had the Choice of being either self employed or on Payroll. I myself have been on payroll having taxes taken out both times I have been employes at Safe and reliable. In Regards to the cab Drivers they are self employed the lease the vehicles it is there choice to pay taxes.. In regards for divers/ dispatchers working 12/24 hours I have pulled many doubles dispatching. But I am not out on the road putting anyone in Harms way.and I have came in on my day off to Drive recently ther for a drier would not work 24hrs..Stop bashing people when this the way the bussiness has been going for years before he started..

People who live in Glass houses should not throw stones.. This is in regards to the commnt about Jimmy Mill it is obvious you truely do not know him.. Yes he has problems.. But whom are you to Judge what he has done it may not be right, but unless you know the true whole story you should not talk about it..M&M

Angry Left us stranded - Un-safe and Un-reliable
I booked a cab with "Safe and Reliable" in the middle of December for New Years 2007. We were picked up 20 minutes late and taken to the bar we were going to stay at all night. We had prearranged to be picked up at 1:30am because i don't like to be on the road after the bars close. When we got dropped off we gave the driver a $20 tip to make sure he was back on time. We called s&r at 1am to check to make sure the cab was on the way to the bar (a 30-minute drive from Lorain) to get us. They said he was 20 minutes away. we waited 40 minutes. i called s&r back. They said they had to use that driver for another pickup and were sending us another cab - it should be there by 2:30 (already an hour after our prearranged time). I called at 2:15 to make sure they were on the way. they said he was on time.

At 3:30 at (standing outside the bar for an hour and a half) we got a ride from our friend who drove 20-minutes to the bar to get us. I called S&R the next day and the person who answered the phone said they were extremely OVER-BOOKED that night.

OVER BOOKED!? I made arrangements weeks in advance!

Don't use S&R ---- they are not reliable and obviously did not care about our safety.

the company has a scam policy that they pull on alot of people including me.
even if you clean the limo out 100% they still try to charge your credit card for clean up fees.
me and the 1000's of people i know will never use this crooked company ever again.

Word of mouth works wonders doesn't it!!

Call the IRS. I understand they get right on reports like this. I read it in relation to illegal aliens, but it should work for Americans who break the laws too, since they hold us more accountable than they do illegals.

i have been employed with s&r for 5 years and have paid my taxes every year. as far as al goes people just r jealous of the progress he is making in life. His family problems outside of s&r never enterfer with his work place and im sure we all have family members that have done wrong and im sure these people arent willing to wash their dirty laundry out in the publics eye. to all the angry ex employees maybe if you weerent trying to scheme the company by running calls and keeping the money you would still have a job, and would be so upset and quick to slander peoples names. my mother always told me to practice what you preach.....

This guy is shady in all aspects of his life. He scams a lot of people for their weddings and somehow gets away with it...how sad! That company is a mess inside and out!

It is easy to slander someones else's name and business by hiding behind anonymities but I'm calling you out if you have a complaint let me hear it. Call me, and man up to it. I ask you how do you scam someone for their wedding. We have been in business for over 10 years and probably have done over 500 weddings in this time along with other countless events. Sure we have had some complaints yes, but compared to the amount of work we do they are hardly a blip on the radar, of which we address those concerned and try to make them happy. Call me I am waiting to hear from you

Mr Egghead,
Your complaining about getting service on the busiest night of the year, what you fail to mention is that on New Years Eve we do not guarantee time calls due to the extreme volume of business that day. If you wanted any type of guarantee we offered limo service which stays with you. Check with any other major cab company and i am sure that they will tell you the same.

Our clean up fee is very straight forward and black and white. If you Vomit anywhere inside the limo you pay, smoke inside the limo (even with the windows down and you trying to hide it, YES WE SEE AND SMELL YOU) you pay and if you have no regard for the inside of the limo and damage something you pay. Other than that light trash left behind is ok. If you were charge extra on your credit card it was because you did something that you agreed not to do according to your contract with us that you agreed to and signed. I'm sorry you feel this way but I'm sure you wouldn't like it for us to come into your house and do something you told us not to do.

Well, the BEST thing about this place is they have contracts with schools. Try getting a cab from them, say about.. i dunno. 8am or 3pm. You will be stuck waiting FOR HOURS. Now you ready for the KICKER?!?! THEY HAVE A SEXUAL PREDATOR DRIVING TAXI FOR THEM RIGHT NOW!!! That's right. He a registered sex offender on Lorain County Sherrifs website, and THIS JEW BACKWARDS COMPANY HAS HIM DRIVING TAXI FOR THEM!!!

everyone take a GOOD look at their limos, and try to find one that ISN'T rusted. "safe and reliable"? go past their shop and look at the two WRECKED taxis in the back of the shop. Real safe!
