Poor doggie. The news said he had spinal cord damage and they put out a call to any available neurologists to donate their services, as the treatment could run up to $5000 and the couple can't afford the costs.

I live on this street and saw the dog laying on the sidewalk after it jumped. It was nice to see the police stroking and talking to it, but it took a LONG time for animal control to pick it up.

This building must be very pet friendly because both of the dogs are BIG dogs and the other guy mentioned in the story also has a big pit bull. The apartments in the building are very small..I can't imagine having such big dogs in such a little space.

The fact that the dog still has feeling in his lower extremities is a hopeful sign. It implies there's still significant signals making it to the brain. Sometimes, being paralyzed from a significant shock is something like a bomb going off next to your ear. You can't hear for a while, but hearing, or some of it, slowly returns. Hopefully, the dog is only suffering severe nerve shock, and can be rehabilitated.

I can't see why they are calling the German Shepard a puppy, when in the pictures he looks full grown. Yes I too hope it makes it to better health, but he is going to need a lot of hope since the news said the dog jumped from a 3 story apartment bldg. And somehow the paper says they were trying to catch the dog, how did they know the dog was going to jump? The dog must have yelled at the people down, I am jumping please catch me.

You are showing a great amount of ignorance in this statement. Do you know how many trucks the LBAC has to cover not only Long Beach, but 4 other cities, including Cerritos, Los Al, Seal Beach, & Signal Hill? FIVE cities they are responsible for, a fairly sizable area (I don't even know the square mileage off-hand), and they have only 4 trucks to cover it. You want to have a problem with their response time, write your city counselor and protest the lack of funds for your animal control services.

Keep in mind these officers also work to protect the community against incursions from wild animals such as coyotes, which have been becoming more prevalent due to homeowner negligence leaving food out for their cats, having a large number of cats in a given area, leaving small dogs out in their yards, and refusal to trim back foliage which allows for hiding and den-making for these animals. Stray dogs also develop packs which roam the streets and pose the same kind of threat.

Wow...so my comment bugged you enough to write a two paragraph response? I find that funny. I did not criticize anyone, I simply made an observation.
I honestly have no clue about how the city deals with animals in an emergency. It took over and hour for the dog to get picked up by animal control. Is there anything that prevents the owners from transporting the dog themselves?

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Libra

You're full of empathy and affection today, so it would be a shame not to spread it around. It's a marvellous day for a low-key get-together with some of the people you haven't seen during the past few days, because you'll enjoy having a good chat about what's been happening. Once your social duties are out of the way you'll love curling up on the sofa with a good book or a favourite film.
