The REAL answer is to allow law abiding citizens their rights and allow then to carry concealed weapons. State after state that has done that has shown significant decreased in crimes against people including murders with handguns. After all no criminal thug punk kid, aka gang member, is going to shoot it out with someone, they are all about being cowards and shooting and running counting on law abiding citizens to be unarmed.

I used to be strongly anti-gun, and scoffed at these posts, but I finally looked up the so-called statistics and......wow, you pro-gunners are right. But why are you right? It doesn't make sense to me, but the statistics from various unrelated sources agree that more liberal gun laws do seem to lower crime rates. I would like to argue, but I can't see my way around these facts.

Think about what the outcome would have been if a few citizens were carrying firearms while walking next to Melody when the attack occurred. If the attacker was aware that other people not related to the gang he was shooting at also had weapons, he may not have shot into the crowd the first place. If he had, he wouldn't have gotten away, and justice would have been served right there on the spot.
Consider whoever chased the boy until he got away. What if they had a gun? The boy wouldn't have gotten away. He'd have been shot down like a dog, which most would agree would have been a just, and fitting end.
More simply, if I bump into you walking down the street, almost knocking you to the ground, and you know I probably have a gun, and I know you probably have a gun, how polite do you think the exchange of words might be, compared to if one or none of us had a gun?

No guns:

A: Watch where you're going, idiot!
B: Screw you! Walk on your own side, fool!

With guns:

A: Oh, I'm sorry...
B: No, no. It was my fault. Let be help you up. I'm really sorry.

Notice they have NOT printed the "rival gang" members names or where they attended school or why they were even at a Poly /Wilson game.. Amazing how they revealed the 16 year olds names but not the adults that were also shot..

I personally believe that criminals work on a risk vs. reward concept. When the risk increases if you attack someone who you don't know is armed or not, you will have fewer attacks against people. You then get the increase in crimes against property (which is exactly what you get in states that have shall issue laws for law abiding citizens).

I would much rather be a victim of someone breaking into my parked unattended truck to steal something than having an armed criminal trying to steal from me personally.

Marshall teachers could have predicted it, and likely did. You're a kid. You simply wouldn't see the potential for problems. But remember all those kids who cause trouble in the classroom and out for one reason or another are the same kids who cause trouble in real life. Problem kids generally = problem adults.

They were victims too in the eyes of the law and they can not report their names.

well the police didnt release the names, they are the ones who arent supposed to. Now the media has no such restrictions. Besides it was all over the internet minutes after the arrest occurred. Nothing happens in the hood without cell phones going off, text messages, and facebook entries. I'm suprised "Tom did it" was plastered all over facebook the night he killed Melody.

Tell me Blue were these "adults" on the Poly side or Wilson side because all I here is they were "rival" gangs on the other side of LB.. I'm having a hard time understanding why we are protecting any gang member. But, thank you for responding.. You see, I was there and can't stop thinking about what I saw...

As far as I know being in a gang doesnt preclude someone from being a "victim" in a crime. So even if we dont like them or even wish they had perished (if they really in a gang) instead of Melody, it looks like adding these guys to the case, will help keep the suspects in prison even longer. As victims their identity would be kept private. I'm sorry you witnessed this horrible incident.

Thank you Blue, I'm grateful for your response. This has been my way of dealing with such a tragedy, its amazing to me the things that people write that were NOT even there. My prayers and heart go out to the Ross family and Tori, who watched this happen to her best friend..

Thanks again

SAFEST PART OF THE CITY WILL BE THE NEXT WILSON HOME GAME. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A POLICE PRESENCE AT THE GAME. NOT JUST HIGH SCHOOL POLICE. GANG MEMBERS LIKE TO GO OUT AND TRY TO INTIMITADATE. CANT DO THAT CRAP IN A BACK ALLEY. MUST TRY TO BE SEEN AS HARD AND A BIG LOSER. GUTTLESS WONDERS THEY ARE.

Daily Horoscope for December 15

Pisces

This is a great day for understanding what's going on under the surface of things and for tuning into the subtle messages that others are sending out. For instance, someone may say one thing yet you'll be utterly convinced that they really mean something quite different. However, they won't like it if you say so, so you'll have to maintain a tactful and discreet silence.
