These elected people should focus on running the city instead of pushing such a divisive issue.

We encourage the next generation to vote. Why? It is not right to undo something the voters have clearly decided. This is not the job of the elected officials, and they really need to butt out!

We already won it. You're the ones trying to overturn it in the courts after the majority of the population told you to go pound sand in the election. Hatred and intolerance are a thing of the past? I beg to differ. Look at the behavior of the homosexuals since the election. That is hatred and intolerance personified. You have to be a real sick person to be a homosexual. It's just vomit-inducing.

Once again the city of Long Beach proves itself to be a laughingstock and a minor player. And Shannon is a well known joke downtown. Guy's about a million years old by now. The phone rings and he answers the iron.

I am so sick of this. It was voted on not one time but 2 TIMES it is not right are you going to push until you get your way Oh wait you did that before and GUES WHAT it was voted out AGAIN!!!!!!!! Stop already it is over if the California Supreme Court gets in this again and over turns this again The people in this state will cry out and make this something for the US Supreme court. Marriage is between a man and a woman it is not racist, intolerant or hatred. And don't even try it about the interracial marriage thing it is NOT the same thing it is not you civil rights being trampled on please give me a break you can "pass" for not being gay but no one of color can pretend not to be so get over it you all lost again STOP IT ALREADY but you won't and all you will do is make people who had no issues with you all hate you for no reason except you are sore losers

Perhaps Officials should look at how the people of Long Beach voted before they take such a strong stance on any issue.

At what point does it seem obvious the people have spoken...again? If prop 8 is overturned, it will show that a persons vote means nothing. It will also show the weakness in the American system of elections. Used to be majority rules...Not any more. Some minority group with any special interest can have the will of the people overturned at any time. Now the council members have voted to support overturning the will of the people. I say throw them all out come the next elections.

Are we surprised at this, no.We have the worst City Council in Long Beach's history.they are absolutely good for nothing!!!!!Maybe the voter who voted yes should all protest city hall, we're too good to do that.I'll never vote again, it's a waste of my time.Hmmm, one of them is a Catholic, I wonder what they voted. The council people are never interested in improving their districts and doing what they were voted in to do...improve roads, etc.Like I said before absolutely good for NOTHING.

How can the city use tax payer money to support a law suit on a Religious issue that the people supported. If you do not beleive it a relgious issue look at the news.

This is simply a move by the councilmembers to curry favor with LB's large gay community. Whether or not LB joins a "friend of the court" brief will hardly carry the day in court. Also, the taxpayer cost for something like this is negligible because LB is just "piggy-backing" on a brief written by lawyers for other cities.

The passage of Prop 8 was the will of the voters. The same voters who elect you to your positions. The very same voters who need to recall that you turned up your collective noses at their will. By the way how is that cesspool called downtown Long Beach doing while you involve yourselves in other matters. Is this a way to get us to ignore your horrific lack of management which has taken Long Beach to the brink of insolvency?

Actually it would show that civil rights can't be put to a vote.

We do not live in a country where the "majority rules". Our founding fathers specifically built our system to prevent that, both with the Electoral college, and with the Courts. Proposirions were designed to be an end run around the legislative and juducual process, but are still subject to the same constitutional scrutiny as any other law.

If you have a problem with how the Founders set up our government, find anther place to live.
