This was a peaceful protest for human and civil rights. I am shocked and outraged at the city of Long Beach for even considering prosecuting. The city council has decided to supprt Los Angeles and San Francisco in thier efforts to fight prop 8; yet the courts our pursuing these outrageous charges.

Typical homophobic and anti-democratic Lb police at work. This is outrageous and all the cases should be dismissed and the LB police department investigated along with the offifers involved in the illegal arrests.

Whatever happened to freedom of speech? I think these charges are ludicrus and a waste of time and money for the City of Long Beach. What is the D.A. trying to prove?

I guess the cops are just fed up with all the protesting.

Apparently they must have voted Yes on 8.

Who knows.

I am outraged that the City Coucil of Long Beach is getting involved, taking sides. The City Council is supposed to represent all their constituents not choose one over the other. Besides, a city government getting involved in something that many claim is a religious battle should be a violation of church and state.

The permit time had expired, they were loud, drunk and confrontational and acting stupid and would not disperse.I was there, these were a bunch of knuckleheads. Yep sounds like damn cops looking for trouble.

Steven, based on your statement, I think that you are an ignorant idiot.

This was a peaceful rally. Long Beach needs to drop charges just as LA and San Francisco did. What are they trying to prove? These are good people that were fighting for an important cause; equality for all people.

I wouldn't say equality for ALL people. Most people already feel they have equality. It is my understanding that the gay community is seeking equality. No one believes these people aren't good people. Honest taxpayers. Hard workers. Contributors to their community.

If the cops arrested "yes on 8" people, would there be the same outcry from the same posters asking the DA to drop all charges?

I personally think that it is ridiculous that these poor kids are having to go through this in the first place. As a history teacher I can't help but to conjure up memories of the people just a few decades ago, that were arrested for fighting for the civil rights of African Americans. Is this really so different?
Ok, Mr. Reeves your point has been made. Please do not inflict any unnecessary punishment on these brave young activitists. How about some community service so that they can give back to the citizens of California that they were fighting for in the first place?

But not citizens that deserve to have the same liberties as you and I? I can't help but to notice the name that you are posting your comment under. How about we letting Jesus judge instead of inflicting our own hate on those around us?

I was also there...this was a peaceful protest. I saw people pulled from the crowd and thrown to the ground for no reason. Take a look at you tube...there is plenty of evidence. Furthermore, the 1st ammendment gives us the right to express our thoughts. As a mother I support and admire them for standing up for human right violations!

This is a waste of time and money of the tax payers. It is called freedom of speech. What is wrong with the judge. Slap the kids (and I do mean kids because at there age the young adults are still considered in today's society youths) on the hand and tell them not to do it again. I think there are much bigger issues and criminal running around than trying to burn a couple of kids for standing up for what they believe in. Doesn't the judge and police have something better to do with there time. Were was the police when someone was breaking into my house. These people are not gods only human. Just like kids. I really think this is being way over rated. By convicting these kids it is like saying the gay rights movement has taken 10 steps back. How sad.

thank you guys for all of the support. i received an email today from john duran, a respected attorney who specializes in first amendment law, and he has come forward to say that he would like to represent the group of us that were arrested at the protest, pro bono. personally, i find this to be very reassuring. hopefully everything works out for the best.
we have another court appearance on december third. it would be awesome if anyone and everyone (especially media) could come out and show some support!

It is impossible for you to say that I am "hating" anything. You can only judge me based on my blog name, but not according to what I have in my heart.

This is to be expected. Godless Calif. Democrats run this State. And, tragically, nothing is better for it. Do you have any idea how violent or destructive these people had to be for the police to actually arrest them in touchy feely SoCal.

Godlessness transcends just sunny So Cal. Our whole society is marred in godlessness. And the people who "claim" to be "Christians" are the worst ones. I stress the word "claim". They are the ones who make religion and God into a joke.

By the pious behavior they have on Sunday and hedonistic lifestyles they have Monday-Saturday.

Westerners can learn alot from the Eastern culture: their beliefs & practices in God permeates their entire lifestyle, from family to business activities.

No compartmentalizing as western cultures does.

How dare you judge people you do not even know. There was NO violence or destruction as it was a peaceful demonstration. I was there...were you? They were standing up for human and civil right violations.
