Oh, so you are hosting "Club Eye Candy" every Saturday night, but you want the City to do something to bring a different "demographic" to the area? That young, aggressive, immature, love to drink, ready to fight, IS the demographic! That is why you have "Club Eye Candy" nights...for the action (in all forms it may take).
Give it a sexy name, and they will come...but when they get there, they will not only spend lots of money, they will so lots of stupid things. But you knew that didn't you? Blame the City all you want, this is all on you Mr. Club Owner. |

Alvarez seems to be accepting at least some responsibility for the melee which developed outside his club, involving his patrons. Congratulations. Certainly, the change in the entertainment offered will hopefully change the type of patron attracted to the club. It will also be very beneficial to the music scene in the City for local bands to have a venue in which to display their talents. I hope that Alvarez makes a big deal about hiring the local talent in his advertising, etc.
On a similar subject, with all the discussion of what's wrong with Pine Ave, I purposely drove yesterday to Pine, starting at Ocean and turning off at 4th Street. In this, the very heart of Downtown, on Novemeber 11th, Veterans Day, there was not one single flag in evidence, not one fold of bunting, not one sign offering a Veteran so much as a cup of coffee, and certainly no Municipal Band playing patriotic music. If the DLBA won't participate in a National Holiday, a ready made marketing opportunity, how on earth do they expect to attract business? If there is nothing going on except for early morning hour attacks in the street, why would people travel to get there and fight the ridiculous parking issues? Why would people from the local surrounding offices even go there for lunch when there are so many much more attractive restaurants located just down the hill in the lovely environs of Rainbow Harbor with wonderful walks available after a meal? If you want business, you have to work for it, and the businesses along Pine simply aren't doing that, despite some good restaurants with sidewalk seating, usually a big plus. Much more effort is needed. |

Let me get this straight...a nightclub owner that has had 85 calls for service for LBPD is blaming the lack of retail for the type of patrons he draws to the club???? Amazing. The nightclub owners on Pine are getting very good at blaming "the lack of retail" for their own irresponsibility. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the people coming to Pine after 10 pm are drawn by: the type of entertainment, the low cover or lack thereof, and lack of dress code in the nightclubs. Get real, club owners. Face up to your own responsibility for what is happening on Pine at night.

Not sure that a show featuring the "Eddie Booze Band" is the panacea to the problem of out of control drunks fighting in the street.

Long Beach should be proud to offer such a service to our neighbor cities. We have no expectation of anything becoming better, safer, brighter, or cleaner.....we are a perfect dumping group for societies least civilized, most violent cretins.

it's only a matter of time before a shooting happens down there.....
go down there and see the people who hang out there... disgusting and scary.......... |

I totally agree. Oh and where has Senior Alvarez been hiding since Sat. night. As of yesterday's PT article "no one could be reached" regarding the black rage on Pine Ave. Increase security Senior Delgado and don't say you didn't know what was going on in this Hip Hop Hell Hole! |
|||
And now he has to do what he can to keep his entertainment permit. Once again, the hip-hop crowd does it to itself. |

"...help bring a different demographic into the area." Translation: keep the black and latino gang members and wannabee's out of the area. This is because they are scaring the white people out of the area. The white's are the ones spending the most money there. A clever move. Don't directly forbid the gang members, just change the music to white rock music. It's politically incorrect, but this is the only way pine avenue will survive financially.

Juan. Few of we decent folks who smoke tobacco or who do not care one way or the other what the violent "Hip Hop" crowd do to each other. What we are concerned about is what they do to the rest of us. Ronald |

Hip-hop is a musical art form. However, its the crowd that listens to it that doesn't know how to behave. |

The way I read it was that there were 85 calls to that address which contains numerous business. I don't think they were all to the club. |

You don't see this kind of mischief at Club Bounce.

Hey all, my name is Shea and I run The Long Beach Party Project, www.LBPP.net , a Long Beach based entertainment & promotions company. I have promoted and hosted events at EVERY venue in Long Beach, ranging from hip hop, house, jazz, punk, rock, indie, electro, and many more. I have seen every type of crowd you could imagine, and what I have learned from promoting events in the LB is that shit like this can happen anywhere, anytime, any venue, any type of people. I have seen it ALL... I personally know the owner of the Rhythm Lounge and have done several events at his club. Eye Candy was obviously a problem as it WAS drawing in a crowd that does not live here and seems to have no respect for our city, and although that is how MOST clubs work, ie. hollywood, LA, etc, the fact is they come to Long Beach because its cheaper and you can get away with alot more. All these issues are interconnected, the club owners cant charge $20 and require upscale attire, when the customers are just not there. The customers are not there because the businesses that attract an upscale patron, who goes to LA instead, are not here. Upscale businesses are NOT attracted to this location because although DT Long Beach has built a SHIT LOAD of brand new high-priced condos NO ONE IS IN THEM! With no high-paying customers around, business owners on pine are forced to do what they can to stay open. Every related element to this story has some blame to take, but what it comes down to is the people. There is an AWESOME and very respectful musical crowd in Long Beach that tries VERY hard to curtail these problems by doing positive events and things in our community, the problem is getting them to pine and getting all the people that DO have a passion for this city down to these great events for support, because without the people nothing works...

Club owners need to investigate the promoters background more on what type of crowd they bring and promote too. Obviously, this is one of them that has a history of attracting a younger and immature croud. Also is well known for this type of activity and incidents... All the good customers & people are affected by this....

This is all funny because I was thinking the other day that what Pine Avenue needs to do, and now maybe all club owners, is to crank up the classical music on the street.
Haven't they done studies that the "wrong element" will leave when the violins and harps come out? I'm semi-serious here. At 2:00 a.m. or whenever the bar closes I'd switch over to classical and watch all the gangrats run for the dark. If it was piped in on Pine Avenue I wonder what would happen to the clientele. |
||||
HAHA, that seems like a good idea! You are on the right track, i just wish a simple change like that would really make things better... |

The Eddie Booze Band is a great local band appealing to a wide demographic. I'm 55 years old and can't wait to see them play on Saturday. The Press Telegram should do a better job of promoting and advertising the local talent playing each weekend at the Pine Ave venues. I wouldn't even know they were playing if it hadn't been printed in this article.
