I'm retired. No one tole me about this huge increase. It's sure not showing in my monthly check. Can I expect it soon? The beat goes on wrote: <quoted text> Fred, all three bear responsibility. One simple example of public employees contribution to the deficit: CalPERS (union controlled) promised that no contributions were needed to fund the huge pension increases. They now cost CA more than 3 BILLION/year. Unfunded state retiree health care costs are 46 billion.

How come they are not being called on to do their part?... thank you, officer d. my typing skills far outshine my math ineptness. can't comment on the health care premiums other than to say when i left, i got my retirement which for a time barely covered my essentials because i'm having to repay time i bought back and because i used up all my sick time. by the time i am able to buy health insurance, i'll be calling it funeral insurance. so if anything happens to me, i am s.o.l.

If you retired before they increased the pensions, your union brothers didn't invite you to the party. You're stuck with the "low" pension in force when you retired. Of course, you get annual cost of living increases. Plus, your pension is guaranteed by the taxpayers, no matter how badly your investments might do. Don't feel too badly. The cash value of even a 30 year state clerk's pension exceeds $1 million.

I just want to say, that I haven't had a pay raise since 2000 either, and I'm not suing any one. Long Beach Cop wrote: pay raise from 2000 - 2005 ...... 0% Nothing said about Oficers approaching the City more than 4 years ago and the City saying "NO" to the complaints that were later filed in the lawsuit. I would maybe like to get paid by the individual tasks of the job .... How much is the appropriate pay to walk down a dark alley after a shots fired call? Then with a person screaming "help me" from that alley? How much is it worth to have a mother cry on your shoulder after letting her know her daughter just passed away in a car accident? How much is it worth to work Christmas day and have everything closed? Then have to eat Christmas dinner from a vending machine in the break room? How much pay to get shot at just because I am wearing a Police uniform? How much to plug the bullet holes with your fingers of the person who was in the wrong place at the wrong time waiting for Paramedics to get there? How much to tell a victim that you arrested the week before and was now shot, laying in a pool of blood in a parking lot and looking at you saying "help me", knowing that he is dying by blood oozing from his mouth, his eyes starting to roll back and still tell him he is going to be OK? How much to have to take the clothes off a cold, stiff, dead SIDS death baby, to make sure there are no bruises on him from possible abuse? All I want is a sustainable wage and a decent retirement. I knew when I started that I was not going to get rich doing the job. I also understood that after graduating from College and wanting to do this job that my friends I graduated with were going to make more than what I was making (about 3X as much and they still are). Every couple years the Sheriff thing comes up. I welcome becoming a Deputy. Higher pay, better benefits and not having to play the political game. A friend that started as a Deputy after me, is making more than me and has better benefits. Just let me do my job and pay me fairly.

This is fight between the GREEDIEST Unions in America. The LBPD simply want to get theirs before one of the other Public Employee Unions take every thing else that the pitiful tax slaves have to give. If there could be a worse group anti citizen hacks in City Hall it would be difficult to imagine.

This is a lousy time to move forward with this lawsuit, parts of which are quite frivolous. Bad move boys & girls, especially when considering you are higher paid than most other city employees, you have great days off (three), and many of your fellow civilian employees are facing losing money due to the furlough...... The word greed comes to mind. How is having to work Christmas, Thanksgiving, kids birthdays and every other holiday, not to mention having to go to court on your supposed "Off day" and go to work when most people are asleep, a great schedule?

This is why we need to be careful about appointing democrats to judges. The simple answer to this is to overturn the stupid precedent that pays people to get dressed.

It costs $1,019,214.00 to buy a guaranteed $3,600 monthly income for a 55-year old woman.($43,000/year.) That includes a 5% COLA and 75% surviorship benefits for her husband. CA has thousands and thousands of public pensioners getting way more than that. http://www.newretirement.com/Services/Annuity... Didn't know the taxpayers made you a millionaire when you retired, did you?

I am sorry you are having difficulty these days. One good thing about a disability retirement is the first half of your pension is tax free. This doesn't make up for your injuries, but it definitely helps in the money department. If you've structured your finances right, you probably are paying no, or very little, taxes.

There is no job anywhere that hasn't seen some kind of pay increase, the simple fact is that state minimum wage has increased since 2000. Even McD's has gotten a raise... nice try. P.S., if you are in a job (probably not)... try a career.

Do we have the integrity to finally elect some pols who are committed to SUSTAINABLE governance.
We have much for which to be ashamed. The $46 million Long Beach deficit is chump change compared to the disasters driven by the "Party" in Sacramento.
It is widely known that Calif. completely failed to elect pols from the majority Party who were worthy of our trust.
Do we simply leave, continue to do nothing, or get rid of these Gangsters.

I think the City is like any other employer and should pay its employees for the time they work. If the time the officers spend doing those things is part of their job an the City knows they are doing them, then they should pay. Just because Long Beach has mismanaged its budget does not shelter them from abiding by the wage laws. The person that wrote this article is totally slanted towards screwing individuals out of wages earned--would they ever work for free? I don't think so.

If you really want to know who wrote this article just turn your eyes to the City. They are notorious for publishing anonymous articles in the PT in order to sway public opinion to their side and make groups like the Police, Fire, and any other groups they are fighting look like the bad guy. The Sheeople (sheep-people) unfortunately have a bad habit of believing everything they hear or read from the media and aren't willing to do independent research so swallow this junk type article hook, line, and sinker. law abiding citizen wrote: I think the City is like any other employer and should pay its employees for the time they work.
