In 2010 and 2012...let those be the years of the third party candidates and those REAL progressives like Dennis Kucinich, Peter Schiff and Ron Paul.

You must be CRAZY Ann....passionate, but CRAZY.
The state and school districts flush our taxes down the toilets daily. We are not going to vote for a measure or nutty bond everytime they want to use kids as a chess piece to get more of our money... When the goverment shows that the can be trusted and spend the current tax income revenues properly with a real plan and structure then we might be willing to give some more dough...until then I'll just keep playing the lotto and continue having my paycheck robbed.

If you are also concerned with over crowding in classrooms I hope that you are against giving free education to every kid born here in the illegal immigration capital.$10,000 a semester per kid....Keep poppin' out those babies y'all......

For Terry Lucas

KEEP YOUR UGLY HATEFUL RELIGION TO YOURSELF. GO PRAY IN A CLOSET. THIS IS NOT A CHRISTIAN NATION.

You should read the article in the LA TIMES regarding how the Islamic moral police is taking over Indonesia because all you want to do is inflict your christian version on the rest of us.

Going to church no more makes you a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car.

Mr. Stickle, one young lady breaking the law by riding on the sidewalk does not make the Federal funds spent on the sharrow lane a waste. All the sharrow lane does is illustrate to motorists where cyclists have a right to ride in conformity with California law.

Let me explain, a cyclist who is not riding at of near the speed of traffic must ride as close to the right a "practicable" according to California law. If you measured where the green lane is located you would find that it starts 5 feet away from the edge of the parking spaces. That's because an opened car door measures approximately 5 feet and it is not "practicable" for cyclists to ride any closer to parked cars. This is because occupants of vehicles frequently open car doors directly into the path of cyclists causing accidents. Get it???

And yes Mr. Stickle there aren't many things in in life that are much scarier than lying on the ground, injured by a car occupant who "doored" you, praying that the motorist behind you is able to stop in time to miss squishing your head like a water melon.

Last time I checked, there had not been one accident involving a cyclist in the sharrow lanes. Well worth the Federal funds that were spent on the project.,
God help you

Dear Ann Cantrell: Justwondering but, isn't there another 85% that you conveniently leaving out of your letter? That would be the FACT that according to the CSEA( California school employees association) newsletter, 85% to 90% of the schools budgets, go to pay for salaries and benefits for the teachers and administrators. What that means is, out of the $92 you were asking for,$78.20 to $82.80 was going to you and only $13.80 to $9.20 was going elsewhere for the "children". If teachers and administrators were really concerned about the "children", maybe they should give up some salary and benefits so more money would be available to the "children" without having to increase taxes on the rest of us. But we all know that's not going to happen because it's really about more money in your pockets at the expense of the "children".

The sharrows on 2nd street are a joke. The paint started to fade after one week. The city should not be spending money on bike lanes. There are much better uses for the money in the city.

Be nice. This satiated Suja lust to be Photographed. And, she is all the residents of the 2nd District think they deserve. Electing her proved that 2nd District Democratic voters couldn't be MORE PATHETIC.

Yes, Annie, but they won't be children then. You've got to come up with something more snappy to get people to agree to more taxes.

Religionkills (now there is a hateful name) could not be more wrong. This IS a Christian nation. Has been from the outset. The really cool thing is that we do not require you to believe, only to allow us the right to worship as we see fit. Your demagoguery would eliminate that fundamental right. I feel sorry for such a pitiful person as yourself. Don't worry, God still loves you.

Justwondering Oncle Willy but, have you read the 1st amendment? No matter what Bill O'reilly says, this is not a Christian nation. We are a nation of many Religions, among them, is Christianity. And while you think the really cool thing is that we do not require you to believe, only to allow us the right to worship as we see fit, we'd like the same respect of you. To not force your beliefs on non-believers. That way women could freely have the right to choose, without worrying if their doctor is going to be shot to death by some religious extremist for doing something that is LEGAL in the U.S.. Without your religious views Gays and Lesbian couples could enjoy all the rights afforded every other U.S. citizen, Marriage. So while we don't try to tell YOU what to believe, please keep your hatred inside your churches and homes and quit trying to force your beliefs upon the rest of us. Thanks.

What are you talking about? You have every right imaginable to practice your religion. Drive down any street and find a church. That doesn't mean this is a "Christian nation." There is nothing in the Constitution that says we are a "Christian nation." Just the opposite is true. The Constitution says "Congress shall make no law...." that either establishes a religion or eliminates a religion. In other words, the government stays out of religion. And what all of us need to beware of is when religion tries to get control of our government.

It is totally arrogant of you to tell someone "God loves you." That is an attempt on your part to try to represent God. And that is just one of the things that make religious people disliked so much. You overstep your bounds.

Sadly, in today's "Progressive' Long Beach, it is more important that Union members get ever bigger, shiner trucks than that our kids get a valid basic education.

So sorry Terry Lucas. Religion has nothing to do with honoring our veterans. "God held up to scorn" is only in your imagination. I honor our military personnel always. Religion was / is conceived for money and power by man. God is wishful thinking by man.

I am grateful that the House health care plan passed, but I know the fight isn't over. I'm proud to be one of the millions of AARP members who will continue to work with Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard and other members of Congress to make sure any final health care bill means people like me who've worked hard their whole lives will no longer have to choose between paying for medications or paying for heat/food/the bills.

More importantly, Roybal and others promise to delude the value of our kids citizenship. That is the dream of Every LA County voter/citizen/parent.

I'm all about helping out the students in the schools. As long as my child is in one of them. But I am not going to shell out money that I don't have or expect someone who doesn't have children to spend money for children whom they don't know. I know that the arts, music, field trips and everything else that students aren't getting due to budget cuts. But isn't that what the fundraisers for the schools are for? I remember that is what I had to do when I was in school. I have no problem buying something for a student that has something to show for where my money was going. Not just going to a school. Don't the schools believe in fundraisers anymore?
