Didn't I already read the SAME story in YESTERDAY'S NY Times? I think the times did a better job with it.

yes i see what the solution is. this should be opened as a "picks ur parts' place to get parts for your old cars from new cars. this will help the economy by not having people to pay high prices for the car parts. the extra money will then be spent buying the big screen hdtv with surraound around sound and going to restraunts with the girls to have drinks and maybe sex afterwards. everyone wins.
Yea...I agree with this guy...especially about the part about having drinks with girls and sex for desert.:-)~ |
maybe car companies should start making enough cars to support the demand.

The BLUE state! It's gonna get worse, hand on!
Oh that's brilliant. Then we'll be stuck with low-quality, over priced crap like GMs and Fords. Anyone see a Buick or Oldsmobile they're dying to buy. Doubt it. Dump those and bring in more Hondas and Toyotas. Quality sells people. |
The cost of any new vehicle is way too much. No one I know would buy one, and pay monthly, the same amount as a home mortgage once cost!
Aside from that, when one buys a foreign car, the profits go back to that country. So if any American wants to protect their job, it's time we take that into account. |
if we want to protect our jobs we need to start making better products. |
If the foreign car importers are having a problem finding parking space for their unsold cars in L.A./Long Beach may I suggest the park them in the San Pedro scrap yards.
If you did any research instead of just spouting ignorant generalizations you would know that The AMERICAN Honda Motor Company is located here in Torrance, CA. VW, Honda and I believe also Toyota all have manufacturing plants here in the US as well as headquarters. The big 3 import jobs out of the US all the time, why don't you look at how many plants they closed while they were making $4 billion in profits? And guess what? When we had a Dodge Colt Vista about 12 years ago it said Mitsubishi on the engine! That was a total POS. As far as buying American BRAND cars, my family has always bought them. But we've decided we've had enough of their inferior quality to the foreign BRANDS and their treatment of the American worker. For the record we currently have a Mercury Cougar, Chevy Cavalier and Chrysler Town & Country. They've all been pieces of crap, expensive to repair. My boyfriend on the other hand has a 98 Honda Accord with 230k miles on it, we just had a radiator replaced. My Cougar needed a new transmission after 60k miles. The T&C has also had many problems and it's a 2006! |

This is not a good sign. In the 70's deep recession& gas shortage detroit was ailing but people were snapping up hi mileage imports: the ports back east where I grew up were booming. It was the only bright spot in the deep recession of those long ago days.
Now, nobody is buying anything: well built or otherwise. If the pipeline clogs up too bad, all the credit availability in the world isn't going to fix it! If it gets any worse, I'm diversifying my portfolio to guns, ammo and canned goods. |
Beach girl is right, Honda and Toyota sales bring in more $$ to CA, especially the South Bay, than Detroit cars do.
Free market baby. I would imagine a story about import/export at LAX would be similar. Being a leader in computers and WWW applications helped pull CA out of the recession in the 90s, we better come up with something else that everybody wants soon or follow Westside Steve's economic plan. |

If I were a stupid, unskilled, nepotistic "longie" I would be c_hitting bricks. Dumbazz punks.
Longshore Hater! |
Yes, the longies are now going to be at the city parks even more now, with their forties in hand, as they get laid off due to the slow down & their greed inspired contracts. They've shot themselves in the foot by consistently asking for more (and more) while doing less AND hiding behind their union BS while preaching about their brotherly plights. Still amazing how they try to rationalize exorbitant wage$. Reality's come calling longies. Hope you can deal with getting off the gravey train. |

Just out of curiosity, where do all of these cars go if no one buys them? Not just imports, but ALL cars. Where does the excess go? I know they(maunufacturers) don't just scrap them, do they?
Geez! We better bail them out!! Let the government BUY them all!! Heck, buy the entire shipload. The government can start up it's own dealership and/or rental car agency.

Obama has not even spent a day in the white house and already the country and our ecomany are comming apart. We can not afford eight years of socialism. that is what he will give US.
Far to manypeople are alowed to vote, the people who recieve wellfair and live off the backs of the producers in this country. Why should peoply be allowed to vote when they only vote for people that will keep them from WORKING FOE A LIVING. The democrates are the socialest that had to flee Russa so they could find a nother country they could distroy. |

We should not forget that every automobile sold produces sales tax that is used to abuse decent women and men who smoke tobacco and to enable the politicians to spend their time thinking up ways to increase the taxes of decent women and men who do not smoke tobacco.
Decent consumers (both decent consumers who smoke tobacco and decent consumers who do not smoke tobacco) should continue their "Buyers strike" Ronald |

get real, this is not a problem that started with obama winning the election. the bush socialists pushed for the bailout too. |
Good! Now maybe they will bring the prices down on those cars to the price they
are really worth. |
