Hello, my mother and my aunt as well as my dad were all in Fontainebleu, France 1960-65 I believe. My father was in the US Army stationed in France for approx 1 year with his home base in Germany-(how I understand it) My Grandfater was MSgt Harold C Johnson, wife Dorothy Johnson, Daughters Patricia, Karen, & Nonnie. Karen 18-19 and Nonnie 15 and a few other girls all hung out regularly, I am told, with a group of 8 soldiers. I have photographs and can read some of the name tags- Mathews, Murray, Nemee, Peru, and looks like Prosser. My mother speaks of one of the girls being from England who dated one of the "8". I would love to speak with anyone who might have further clues to the mystery I find myself trying to unravel. I will also enjoy hearing from anyone who personally knew any of my family members.
Kindest Regard,
Elle~
Hi Elle,
I don't know who you are, I'm Harold C, Johnsons son, I knew Karen and Nonnie, I don't know where thay are at. The last time I had heard from either I was living in Morongo Valley, Ca. We all went to Paris American High school, well I'm sure about Karen, not positive about Nonnie. I went back to Fountainebleau twice, once in 90 and in 96. The US base is not a US base anymore, the Nato base is still there (well in 96 it was). I went to both apartments we lived at there. I was shocked to see Karen/Nonnies name on a web site. Well was shocked to see my Dads as well as Dorthys, I haven't thought of them in years.
If you catch up with either of them tell em hi and send me a message @ b46777@aol.com

Does anyone have information on a Sgt. Ferias who was stationed in Chateauroux in the early '60s?

Does anyone remember Walton L. Goodman (my adoptive father) who was assigned to the 7373th USAF Hospital in 1962?

I can be reached via email at vineyardalto@yahoo.com.

I lived with my family outside of Paris from the summer of 1960 to the summer of 1963. We lived in La Chapelle, Orleans, and Fontenay le Fleury. My father worked for Shape Hdqtrs, stationed at Camp Voluceau and we attended school at Garche, a Paris-American school. I was the oldest of 5 children and was 7 when we arrived in France. We lived in a different village each year with Fontenay being the last one. It was a small town west of Paris that actually had a French section and an American section. The American side was full when we arrived so we lived in the French side our last year in France. I have very fond memories of being there. We became friends with the French family across the street and played with their kids; walked up the street to the market every Tuesday, played in the stream catching tadpoles; helped the French kids pick dandelion greens in a cow pasture, always afraid the cows would come get us; and played in an old church which had been bombed out during WWII. We would go to Camp V. for the movies, PX and to watch my Dad play sports.

Hi Ann-Sorry I haven't responded. I've been away on business for the past several days. Anyway, while I wasn't a bus driver I knew all of them. Kind of a crazy bunch. I also remember the name Jim Gill, but I don't remember him personally. Where did he work?
When I worked with your dad I was the Garrison company clerk while he was the unit First Sergeant. It was interesting to sit and listen to his war stories, and the stories of the years after the war and his experiences.
It's quite possible we met since, like most of the guys there, we all hung out at the local bars and clubs. I think one of them was called "Mama's" or something, and was located on a street down one side of the base. I know we went back in over the wall around there several times after bedcheck, narrowly evading the Polish guards.
Well, enough for the moment. Take care.

Thanks to Google I can see that my apartment block and the woods behind it are still there, even the basketball court with original paint lines; the French change nothing. Also Voluceau British base near SHAPE HQ still standing. Saw many movies there! Best childhood ever; consolation prize being last Canadian leaving was 2 year transfer to Ramstein A.F.B.(living in Mackenbach village). Cheers to anyone posting here.
Bonjour Elie Foubert. My ex-husband, James Jensen, and I lived in St. Germain-en-Laye from approximately July 1965 through October 1966. He was a Navy man and was stationed at Camp des Loges. We spent may evenings at the NCO club. I was not a child at the time, but a young adult of 21 years old. I have so many fond memories of France. I too recently Googled the address of the apartment building were we lived, located on Rue d'Hennemont. I was able to see the building and travel up and down the street and the neighboring streets. Exciting to see and to remember. Much is the same, but so much has changed. I've recently been spending quite a lot of time Googling different locations in and around St. Germain-en-Laye and around Paris to keep the images and memories alive.

thanks for the reply,; I was only 11 back then and one of my American friends had a father who I believe was US Navy; i remember seeing a Colt weapon (collector of course) in a glass case. We all lived on 17 rue Tourville and then I moved to Shape Village Block 10.
Back then I had no clue what other people did and now find it interesting to see who was who and what their roles were.
Wish I had more names, regards, ELIE

I was stationed in Fountainbleau, France from Dec 60 till June 64. I was with the 507th Signal Co then the 29th Signal Bn. I remember some names...Michael Chimelecky, chandler.Enrique Sanabria.Ed Haney,Sandoval.Massey, Mitchell,Bosworth,Yusko. I was also a member of the only drill team on the post Would like to hear from anyone there at the time. My Email address is poilim@yahoo.com
Emilio, i was stationed in Fontainebleau from June 1963 until Dec 1965 with the 293rd Sig. Co. I worked in the personnel pay office where the finance building was. Remember all those good lookin' French girls that worked there? I also remember some of those guys you mentioned, like Chimelecky, he was a cook from Philly. Also, Sandoval. I think he worked with supply and if I remember right he also would drive those 5 ton trucks hauling equipment out on field exercises. I have pictures in an album out at an exercise we were on in a CP tent with Clyde Duggan, Sandoval, Alan Amerault, the mail clerk whose last name is Irving, Walt Hopkins and me.If you're the guy I'm thinking of you are also in picture lying on the cot with the mess gear hanging above you're head. I also have a picture taken in the barracks you, Sandoval, and Chmielecki all decked out in your class uniforms. There are also some guys you might remember: does Paul Fratt & Carl Neel ring a bell? How about John Smith? I think he was like the CO's driver. Emilio, I hope you remember these photos and scenerios I described because I believe you're the one who I'm thinking is Emilio Perez.
