Erik, the "they" you reference, in the case of Heath, was a small group of 5-6 people who organized the entire effort to put the measure on the ballot. I attended a couple of their meetings. 2-3 of them worked long hours organizing the petition drive with help from a few others on a more limited basis. That's "all" it takes is the commitment of a core group and then people like you will, given the chance, vote against the cameras. There is a lot of help out there now too for those trying to organize against the cameras. Hope someone in Columbus takes up the cause.

Watched the silly woman interviewed on the TV news yesterday. She likes the cameras because she has a minor child who will be a new driver. She wants nanny gov to protect her kid by infringing on everybody's privacy. This mentality is prevalent nowadays. Thanks to government indoctrination and mass media brain wash.

Great! The cameras were working in Health during July-I received my $100 ticket. I wonder how much of my contribution will go towards removing the cameras. I hope the expense of installing and removing them is worth the expense.

Heath and Chillicothe now need to assign a patrol car to every lighted intersection and speed zone similar to Woodville. The citizens have spoken by vote for removal of traffic lights and speed limits. Until they actually remove the limits, law enforcement needs to be re-assigned from protecting the public to enforcement of traffic laws. Safe alternative? At least in Michigan we have minimal intelligence, more so than Heath.

Okay Columbus, lets get busy and do the same thing. These things are too much like
"Big Brother" is watching. Lets hope Columbus can put them on the next ballot and
get rid of them.

No officer, simply a person who doesn't run red lights, is it that hard to follow that simple law?

As many tickets that was issued, its obvious that people don't obey the law. Heath should just sit an officer out there in a chair have him issue the tickets. Of course raise the fines until people understand that Red means stop.

Police either get paid from taxes or fines. Since I don't break the law, I'd like them to get paid from fines. Speeding should be a $500 fine for every 5 miles over the limit.

Let me get this right, drivers in Heath and Chillicothe don't WANT camera's giving proof that they are exempted from following the laws and running yellow and red lights.

If these drivers properly followed the traffic laws, they should not worry of getting a "camera ticket" for breaking the law. Hmmmm!

Yeah to the citizens of Ohio for standing up to big brother traffic calming methods AND to Heath's Chief of Police for coming up with a better solution. Study after study show that the radar speedcheck signs that Shepherd will be trying to get for the city are highly effective at slowing cars, cost effective for cities that use them and unobtrusive or invasive to drivers that are targeted by them. There are links to about a dozen government research reports at www.informationdisplay.com that show speedcheck signs - those displays that tell passing drivers their actual speed - really do work at getting motorists to slow down. Best of all, they don't use Big Brother Is Watching tactics to do it.

Does anyone know if citations issued before the vote to ban photo radars in Chillicothe are still legal?

They were never "legal" persay, they were civil matters. If you don't pay, you don't get points on your license, your credit rating gets dinged.

I noticed that people avoided the cameras as much as possible in Chillicothe, taking a different route when it was available. I'm glad to see the cameras go. We have to draw the line somewhere.
