Toyota's most productive Factories are Union and some of their best quality.Around 85 % of Toyota's workers who get hurt on the job are fired, the Union would stop the workers from being fired. Sometimes you have a no good worker that the union takes up for. what about the person who got hurt or got fired because the suppervisor didn't like them or your wife or Daughter wouldn't give him a date.Have you ever heard how the coal miner was treated and the auto worker before the union ?

You can't be fired for getting hurt on the job. That's what workers comp. is for. Try again! Your supervisor can't fire you because they don't like you. It's called discrimination! Try again! You can't be fired because you won't date your boss! It's called sexual harassment! Try again! Yes, I remember what coal mining was like before unions! My father worked over 40 years underground. I also remember when companies started shutting down and they took the union dues and ran! The miners were left with nothing! The federal government changed the safety laws if that's the changes you're referring to.

No, you can't be fired for getting hurt on the job, but what's to say on the day you get back to work the boss says I don't like you today - you're fired - go home- Nothing is preventing this because KY is an Employment-At-Will state. Your supervisor can't fire you because they don't like you. It's called discrimination! Wrong try again! You can be fired because they don't like you because KY is an Employment-At-Will state. No, you can't be fired because you won't date your boss, but you can be fired because you are wearing an ugly shirt. e.g.- boss: "how about we go see a movie and have dinner after work today?" Employee: "No, I've told you before I'm not interested in dating you". Boss: "Oh, ok, oh by the way, We won't be needing you to work anymore because you wear ugly clothes". Unless you have an employment contract in KY you can virtually be fired for any reason or no reason at all.

After reading the post on this board anyone would be a total idiot to start a business in Laurel County. For employees you would end up with meth and crack heads, that would be to stupid to fill out an application without someone doing it for them. If Laurel County was a sovern nation it would go broke supporting all the welfare entitlements and extended unemployment checks. No, you dont need a Union, you need your butt kicked out of your parents basement and your government cheese taken away. Its called self esteem. try looking that up in the dictionary.

Wow you people live in a dream world . 1. companies would shut down and leave lol look around 2. Company wont fire you if you get hurt , lot of them will find a reason. 3. Also Reagan busted the unions when the traffic controller went on strike , unions have been losing membership ever since. Union today have less voting power, letting companies do the employees anyway they want, also closing shop and moving.

Legally, they can't fire you for getting hurt on the job. However, what happens in most cases is, it's ticks them off, they make your life miserable so you'll quit, or, they will go above and beyond to document reasons to fire you. There's a way around everything. The more claims, the higher workman's comp insurance is to the employer. They don't like that. It also can scare some companies sometimes with W/C for reasons such as they have not classified some workers with a true classification. For example, a concrete/asphalt company. Since concrete deems a higher risk, W/C insurance is more expensive for a concrete worker versus asphalt, thus they might classify certain workers simply asphalt. A landscaping company for instance who has workers doing multiple jobs, such as winter snowplowing and driving heavy equipment, might just classify a worker as "lawncare" with no mention of that worker's risk with heavy equipment. W/C insurance is not cheap, so it's not unusual to see misclassicications, thus scarry to the employer when something does happen. Workman's comp is there, however, in the time it takes to get it sometimes, you starve to death. Workman's Comp is state-based and depending upon the financial status of the state at the time, one might be in for a long haul. Some postpone it as long as they can hoping you'll go away.

All of the above mentioned, happens everyday. Unions Rock. It just around the corner, that Mr. Wal-mart, will be Union also.

Where I work they tried to unionize our plant. The vote was 117 to 12! NO union! The only thing around the corner is more unemployment!

Good luck, but doubt you'd ever get a Union in at Wally World. They are a powerful unit. The reason Walmarts infiltrated the south first majorly was because of cheap labor, and, Toyota I believe, planted a plant there to get cheaper labor..sort of an agreement with the govt. and Toyota due to the "exchange" thing. Walmarts in the past several years have migrated North. We now have them all over the place, prices differing depending upon what suburb you're in. However a majority of them plant themselves in cheaper labor areas, where they can a) do their best sales, and, b) find cheapest labor force. They negotiate the Hell out of suburbs in tax breaks to put themselves in a location to offer jobs. There are other companies rapidly growing that are giving Walmart a run for its money and I'd say sooner or later, Walmart will be downsizing. That's what happens to these over-extended companies. They spread themselves to thin, then have to pull back. Just wouldn't count on getting a Union in at Walmarts. Many moons ago when employees started trying to get the Union in at the old Laurel Grocery Co. They tried to fire everyone after that, that supported getting the union in.

went to work in a union shop in ohio a few years ago, teamsters had the union contract... 3 weeks after joining the union, they decided to strike... I made the comment of getting a part time job while on strike the union reps and shop stewards told me I wasn't allowed to get one... when I asked for a reason, it was because we were getting strike pay and needed to spend 6 hours a day on picket line... the strike "pay" the spoke of, was a whopping $25 a day! now if unions are so great, how the hell is someone supposed to support a family on that kind of money? especially as a single parent! when you're on strike, you don't get unemployment or workers comp

I don't like unions. They're self-serving. But I see employers treat their workers when their businesses are not unionized also. It's true that a company can't fire you for getting hurt. But they can fire you for violating a safety rule. They can't fire you because you wouldn't date the boss, but they can fire you because suddenly your work performance isn't up to par. Companies simply know that most people are either unable or unwilling to fight them in court. They exploit that fact. I've seen employers fake documentation after the fact to make it look like an employee was a chronic problem. On the write up the made a note that the employee had been counseled but refused to sign the paper work.
