This actually happened shortly after 7pm. I was passing by and saw the scuffle. He was putting up a good fight. Five police cars, paramendics and a fire truck responded shortly after everything started.

The rogue cop has shamed the Lomita Sheriff's Department. He should be fired.

Agree. Even though there are 2 sides to a story, it appears that Lt. Lum has ruined a promising career with the Sheriff's Dept.

Something is really wrong here. Sure would like to learn the other side of the story. One thing I do agree with is that he just esculated this incident 100 fold when he resisted. All that training and he didn't know how to handle this situation when he was on the otherside of his badge.

Petty theft. How stupid can you get. A Sheriff's Lieutenant makes about 130K a year and he has to risk his career and reputation and do something like this. Give me a break, do all the paperwork and can the guy. Everyone is human and not perfect, but he should know better.

The problem here is that he DOES know how to a situation like this is handled. He broke the law and got caught. In addition, he didn't want to but DID get caught by the Torrance Police. He knows that he is going to get it from his own department. That's why he ran and that's why he fought the TPD. I hear music: I fought the law and the law won......

HD is in Torrance, not a Sheriff covered area so I doubt he was undercover. Maybe just a bit arrogant to think he was above the law. Will have to check in with my Sheriff relative to get the inside scoop and will report back later.

It is sad, he is in a position of leadership on the Sheriff's Dept. It is crazy, why would he attempt to shoplift something with the money he makes.

He must have forgotten he was in Torrance, not Lomita. In Torrance, you can't get away with it. If he really thought resisting would let him avoid being arrested, it doesn't say much for the department he works for.

i believe deputy Lum is asian, and why do we have to get all racial once again, for once can't we keep the race card out of this. it doesn't matter what his race is, what matters is that he is a law enforcement officer acting like a foolish thug. and for him being an illegal has got to be the stupidist thing i have heard, come get real Curious you are a fool. and Super are you like Curious' cousin or something because i think you are the one who is on crack.
