What a beautiful picture and what wonderful memories I have riding the horses and trying for the brass ring. I got it sometimes, too.
My brother and sister rode the horses also my daughter and grandson. We were members of Deacon Grange when the horses were repainted. What a beautiful job the artists did. We as many others contributed to the restoration as well as the new building which keeps it completely under cover. I live in San Benito TX. It has been a long time since I have heard the music and felt the thrill of 'our' Carousel. I was telling my friend about the merry-go-round and decided to look it up. Thank you Logansport for keeping this part of history intact. |

I rode this many times and often caught the brass ring. It is one of my best memories of my childhood in Logansport.

I loved this carousel! I remember my great-grandparents would drive me down to Riverside and buy me four tickets. I would saddle myself up, wave like crazy, and then...the music would start, and the horses would go up and down. I always stretched as far as I could to catch that gold ring...remember that? It felt like winning a million dollars when I Lady Luck was on my side. I miss this place very much. |

All the years I was growing up in Logan, I lived near the Jones family who had their house on 21st Street. They operated the carrousel for all the years I lived there and then some.
After I returned home from nearly a year in the hospital, and was strong enolugh to venture out, I was taken to the carrousel as I had wished asll during my hospital stay. The Jone's honored my occzssion by deliberately setting up the riing-pull on each of my rides so I could be the one who grabbed the brass ring. That was, of course, th ehighlight of any of the many the many years I would go to Spencer Park and ride the carousel. All members of the Jones family were wonderful people. Rick |

Thanks for the memories and all the hard work you do for us. And thanks from all of us who have got our gold ring. It was so special for Norm and I as we had a lot of good times there with our children when they were small. God bless

Thanks, Lenny, for the memory. I went there often as a teen. The last time I went I was visiting Logansport and just had to ride it with my children. Now I have 2 granddaughters, 8 and 10, and this pic prompted me to decide to take them "home" to ride. What fun! Maybe a picnic. Hope it's still running next weekend when I'm off work.

While you're here I hope you'll check out some other things as well. Some new highlights: The Cole fountain and the revitilization efforts on Banker's Row; the topiaries in the green space by the Farmer's Market (4th & Market); improvements to the trails; how spiffy downtown looks with all the flowers; the old Greensfelder's new look...I'm sure there's more, just can't think of them right now. Something you'll miss - the Burger Barn. It's gone. Went down in about 2 days to make way for an unmanned filling station. Sad... I've also heard the building at 10th and Market is coming down after it's recent fire. Would hate to see all those stones go to the landfill - I understand they're from the old canal.
Guess some change is good and some change is bad. But one thing's for sure, you can't stop change! Hope you have a great time during your visit. |

This is a beautiful carousel, for sure! The former Broad Ripple Park carousel (now housed in the Children's Museum of Indianapolis) is also an intact example of a Dentzel. Both carousels are National Historic Landmarks. They are two of the three complete stationary Dentzel carousels in the country.
