I too am leaving the new club. My 13 year old was cut when the coach said he wouldn't cut any of his players from his old team. He told his returning players that they would be given their old spot back on the new team prior to tryouts. And if the club is happy with there 'B' team being in the bottom division of the premier league then there is a problem. On the first day there were over 55 u14 boys at tryouts. There were boys there from other clubs that were in higher divisions that were cut from the new LCSC team. For a coach to return 14 players from his previous team and the club to be content with a less than 500 average in the bottom premier division says there is a problem with the coaches running the club and not the club directors doing there job. Personally if I am paying for my kid to play on a select team then I want the most talented kids out there. If my kid was cut because he wasn't good enough than so be it. But when he makes a u15 'B' team at another club that is feilding 3 teams and the A team is an elite team, then I think he was at least a little better that the kids that only play as a substitute when the star players need a rest. but were given there spot back. Not only did my 13 year old leave but so did my 9 year old rec player and my little kicker age child. If the directors don't get results from coaches then coaches should be replaced, maybe that is why the Wolves\Hawks are so successful. You have to earn your spot both as a player and a coach. If things don't change next year you will have the same problem that both LSC and the Meteors had, a bunch of expensive "rec" soccer teams. How many others are going to leave? <quoted text>

I would ask A LOT of questions about a coach's history before I signed up my child for his team. Where did he coach last year? Where there any issues? Get the details and talk to some parents from last year's team. Mike wrote: I hear that the Livonia YMCA has started a new select and Premier program called the Fire. They are small due to the merger but very reasonable in price approx $400 including uniform and tournamnets. They have great coaches and excellent trainers. I know that the U11 Girls are looking to fill a few reaming spots and have an excellent coach and training staff. <quoted text>

I just found this site and after reading some of the posts I believe the new Livonia Club has some issues that they better address or there newly formed merger will fail. To see our Livonia youths playing in clubs outside the city is very disturbing. I was at those try outs and I have to agree many of them were just scrimmages and some coaches were not paying attention. Wake up LCSC before you lose more players to other clubs. If the teams are already chosen then state that and DO NOT go through the charade of a try out. unhappydad wrote: I too am leaving the new club. Livonia YMCA Fire is mostly disgruntled coaches who left LSC or the Meteors - and also another coach who brought some teams who doesnt really have a great reputation in soccer-- also the 'one' who has been talked about who was asked to leave in his age group because he wouldnt ever try to better his team..

I second Maria's comment be careful with the fire my daughter played briefly for one of the coaches when he was with the meteors and he was kicked out of the club for a long list of issues and has/had a lawsuit against them.

Not sure Jim which coach you are talking about (MC?)- there is a coach involved in the Fire who didnt come from LSC or Meteors who has a not so great reputation in soccer too.
I hope people know what they are doing...

My daughter has also played with this "coach" with the Meteors. It was the worst experience! The Y knows about this coach's history. Shame on them for taking him. There is a good reason why they still openings on the U11 Girls Fire. PLEASE get all the background on the coach and assistant coach before you sign up and play.

Please....ask anyone who isnt currently playing for Waza and you will get the same thing. As mentioned they might be good trainers but they dont really care about the kids and they do alot of things that break or push rules.
Sorry but its not ignorance, more like awareness
The big coach who recently joined the Fire was with Waza at one time and also has a bad reputation
I know its hard to see when you are involved in the club and paying all that money but I assure you they are not well liked
But back to the issue at hand. These tryouts were not run any differently then other tryouts out there..

Our daughter just joined the livonia fire group, and as someone who really doesn't get involved in gossip, I am very pleased so far with the coach and her new team. I could care less what you all want to say about it!

I agree! My son is on one of the boys teams and he loves it! The coaches are teaching the boys alot of foot skills and endurance and most importantly about team work. The Fire Rocks!!!

What "exactly" happened with this coach. I have heard many different stories. My son plays for the U11 Fire and there are many unanswered questions. This gentleman seems like he is a very good coach, but a very arrogant and self centered person. He absolutely doesn't want to hear a word from any of the parents. I give him credit though for giving his time when he has no child on the team. The kids are starting to feel the tension between the coach and the parents. What do we need to do as parents to curb this and move on with our season? Please help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My son also plays for the U11 boys YMCA Fire. Their coach just quit. His name is Scott Millman, and he's the "Scott" in the discussion above. Everything said about him above is true, unfortunately. His attitude is horrible. He treats the parents like they're an annoyance, and his overall attitude stinks. At our tournament in Saginaw last weekend, he ended the game by quitting before the final whistle. After that he chose to get in a screaming and cursing arguement with a parent that tried to approach him after the game...and there were families/children present.
Stay away from this guy, he's nothing but bad news. I'm dissapointed that the YMCA chose to allow him to coach when he's had so many problems at each club that he's coached at before. Spread the word! This guy has no business coaching at any level.
Fortunately for the team, they are in very good hands now. Go Fire!!!!

Concerned Parent and Fire Forever, I'm so sorry to hear that your boys had a bad experience. But look at the bright side, since he quit at the beginning of the season you can now move on to a much better situation. I was very surprised to hear that Brian Reading allowed him anywhere near the new FIRE soccer club. The reason that he was coaching U11 boys is that he was unable to field a girl's team. He has such a bad reputation that enough parents wouldn't let their girls play for him. He is a good trainer but he looses it when he gets stressed. And you no one should should get that stresses over a child's soccer game. I believe that as parents of children on his team, you should have the right to see all the information that the YMCA has on him. Call the Executive Director at the Livonia YMCA and request the whole file. Basically, though it is just more of what you both already know. The final straw for his last club was when he needed to be physically restrained from attacking a ref at Total Soccer. He is no longer allowed to coach a team there. If you are upset with anyone, it should be Brian Reading for knowing the background on this guy and then still putting him in a position of power over children. Is Scott's best friend Chris staying on as the other coach? They were coaches together on this last team as well.

Yes, Chris is staying on as the head coach now. It also sounds like his brother will helping out with the boys. Chris doesn't strike us as a problem.
