I am truly pleased with that of the comments left here by the educated people who seemingly have love for humanity. Every other negative person that has a problem with a person who may need extra help surviving(b/c the government as well as people like yourselves act as though there is not enough to go around)shouldn't be so judgmental of others and becareful of yourselves. We all know where we've been and where we are in the present. But how many of us know where we are going. I thank god that there is help for people that just don't have the means. Just think if there wasn't....then all you people that feel as though your on top, who do you think the "neeedy" would be coming after??? YOU!!! Hopefully you all stay blessed and never fall short, otherwise it will be you needing medicade and foodstamps, and it will be you getting judged and ridiculed for something you NEED TO SURVIVE! Just a thought
Very blessed

Can you not read? I do work. Unfortunately jobs with medical insurance around here are scarce. My husband died working. Brace are a necessity when a childs teeth are so crooked it affects how they eat, they are more likely to have infections and pain, plus it affects the shape of their face. I will NOT apologize for my kid getting medical help when she needs it. You are portraying yourself as a bitter and hateful person.
You are so right I wouldnt apologize myself your child need it and you are doing what's best for her not that bitch "FED UP" believe it when I say this what GOD gave you he will take back. So I hope you was able to get your child what she needed and fuck what everybody else got to say because you are taking care of yours however you got to. Stay Blessed!!!!!!!!!!

Insurance doesn't pay for braces. It amazes me the idiots who get on here hollering for people to get real jobs b/c they're sick of paying for them to get government assistance, when they don't make enough money themselves to worry about it. The same people who get back more on their tax returns than they pay in. So what are they talking about? They're not losing anything, but they act like it's killing them, when it just makes them feel
better to be able to say that. Like it raises them up into a higher class of people or something b/c
they're not getting assistance themselves. Many people who get medicaid for their kids are
people who work all the time, possibly making more money than they make. They pay a co-pay
for their kids to have the medicaid. Yet some uneducated hillbilly wants to get on here and put
people down about things they obviously don't know the first thing about.
It doesn't bother me that I pay taxes ( and no, i dont get them all back) for these people to sit around. What bothers me is that I and my husband work very hard to pay for private insurance and it will not cover my
Daughter's braces, so we pay for them ourselves, while others too lazy to get a job get them for free. The government shouldn't pay for ANYTHING cosmetic. Period. You want your kids teeth fixed, get yourself employed.

I manage a bill collecting firm, and I work with sorry people getting government assistance every single day. You are sadly mistaken. These people are not on Medicaid to survive. Know how I know? Every one of them has a cell phone, car, Internet, cable...etc. I know that because seize their nice things when they dont pay their bills! They aren't starving. They're lazy. America has decided to support and help these people with the money of hardworkers... One of the many reasons why this country is going to hell.

I think the problem many people have is with people who do not work and have never worked, but continue to abuse the system. Meanwhile the people who are trying to work and support themselves, but still need some help due to unforseen circumstances get a bum wrap, too. I think that when welfare/govenment assistance was set up many years ago, it's intentions were good. However, like anything else, it's become abused. I personally have a problem when I am at the groceries and see people driving a nice new Lincoln, there kids are in BRAND NEW Tommy Hilfiger clothes, and they pay with food stamps. Or they manage to have enough cash for cigarettes ... or beer. And yes it happens. I grew up in a poor county and saw the system abused all the time. Meanwhile, you've got the single mother of 2, working 2 jobs, barely making ends meet, and she can't get assistance. Government assistance could be a great thing ... if it were monitored.
yess this is true wb/cause my auntie is a single mother of tjree who works 12 & 16 hour shifts in the Emergency Room , but yet she cant get food stamps & have to struggle but my 30 year old male cousin with no kids can get $208 a month in food stamps .

WONDER, what are you talking about? Does he and his family get medicaid? How do you know if they have free health insurance? lol.

Medicaid will pay for braces for people 21 and under. But if you go in and get them a month before your 21st birthday, medicaid will continue to pay for them after, until treatment is finished.
I had braces and oral surgery to fix my jaws on medicaid. I had it done at UK college of dentistry, which is A TON cheaper than going to a private practice. I wish I did though, I don't think UK did too great. Oh well. Medicaid pays for this sh*t because having crooked teeth or misaligned jaws can cause health problems later on, that will cost medicaid even more than if they fix the problem..mmk. Even poor kids deserve to have good teeth.

I agree with you. As a kid, my mother and father didn't have much money, but they did the best that they could with me. We had Medicaid/Medicare, and it paid for my braces. Sure, it would have cost several thousand dollars out of pocket, but that was cheaper than the amount that would have had to have been paid for the oral surgery I would have had to have if I didn't have those braces, not to mention the dental bills for cleaning impacted teeth, fillings for the spots that I was unable to reach before orthodontics, etc. I had an underbite which would have required jaw surgery. I also had very little room in my mouth for my teeth, which is why they were all crammed together.
Do I have a great smile now? Yes, but that wasn't the reason why my parents got the braces. They got them for me due to oral health. My parents are in a better place financially, and they paid for my sisters braces in payments. They no longer need medicaid/medicare, so they don't use it.
Orthodontics isn't only about the cosmetic outcome- there are a lot of medical issues that it can nip in the bud. Do I think that people should abuse the system? No. However, if it's there for a purpose, then take advantage of something that will save taxpayers tons of money in the long run.
Does anyone know how to get started on getting Medicaid to pay for non-cosmetic braces. My daughter, according to her orthodontist, is the most complex case he's ever seen in his 40 years of orthodontics. He said yesterday that hers is definitely not cosmetic and can prove it with the images and paperwork or whatever. Now we need to find out how to obtain the financing. Thanks for your help. Lisa

Pay for the braces like everyone else does, take a loan out and pay for like I have to. Why should you get a free ride??? It makes me sick to think part of my paycheck goes to people like you. Everyone should have to pay their own way. I wish they would do away with welfare, food stamps, medical cards. Then people would have to get jobs and take care of themselves.
Thats a rich thing of you to say! I work & go to school to get a better job, but as of right now my daughter has medicaid. She needs braces but not for looks, her teeth are streight, she neefs them because her jaw is out of aline! An her teeth dont come together when shes trying to eat! Medicaid wont pay the$5800 its coast. I work for $7.25 hr. An go to school. And ill take whatever drug testing you want. I dont care! So why dont your Rich A** tell me why medicaid should help my daughter!

I would hate to think that I was so resentful that I got sick whenever I saw somebody using a food stamp card. That sounds more like jealously. I would hate to put this country's future in the hands of some of you people. The same group of people who say that people should be drug tested to be able to get benefits, totally overlooking the fact that the kids would be the ones who would suffer if the benefits stopped. Do you think the kids should "go out and get a job"? Do you think the kids should make their parents' stop their addictions, or make them get a better job? It's also mostly kids who have medicaid. Do you resent needy children who have braces on their teeth b/c the parent's had help paying for them? Do you want to see the cycle of welfare go on? Do you think the kids would have a better chance in life if they had a nicer appearance? I do. It's a proven fact that people with a more pleasing appearance go farther in the workforce. But yet you begrudge them that. These are the same people who holler they don't believe in abortion. It's really sad that so many people see in black and white and don't try to be more sensitive and think out things intelligently instead of slandering people left and right.
This post wasn't even about all this. It was about whether or not anybody knew when medicaid started paying for braces. It wasn't talking about having medicaid, or what it covers now.

Wow... This site is amazing. I have a 12 yr old whose father has been dead since she was 3. I work full time and she had Medicaid, my job offers no insurance and I receive no other assistance. As a single mother, I struggle. Now I am faced with braces, of which her insurance won't cover. I get online to try an find any options available only to find this forum. Makes me sick. I only have her Medicaid because without it, she would not have coverage at all. I don't live on the system and I bust my ass to provide for her.. yet most of you ppl look down on me and others like myself. I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth and I sure as Hell don't live beyond my means. My daughter knows what we can and can not afford. I am saddened by the greed in this world...

what about this situation is the taxpayers fault? We as tax payers have every right to bitch Jesus when does the state draw the line? I don't care if you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth or not ... just answer one question ... Why should they pay for the braces ? If you are truly that worried about your child's teeth get a second part time job and get them fixed. that's the right thing to do...

I'm not really sure about how to get started, as I was only 13 when I had them. Ask your orthodontist about financial aid, or call the medicaid office.

For the rest of you that say that Braces shouldn't be covered- think of what you would have preferred- braces for the kid with the underbite, impacted teeth, and overcrowded teeth, or thousands of dollars in dental repair work including surgery, tooth repair, etc. If braces were simply a cosmetic procedure, I would agree that they should not be covered- however, most of the time, they aren't for cosmetic purposes, but to prevent future problems that would cost MORE money.

Just an idea:)
