The city installed a camera in rural north Livermore at the junctioning corner of Hartford (off of North Livermore Avenue) and Lorriane roads - I'm guessing it's more for city revenue than for citizen protection....anyone know about it?

Lately there has been alot of Gay activity going on in parked cars in the area. The city is just responding to complaints from homeowners in the area.

Its probably just for overall security. As an ingress/egress point from the city, it is necessary to be able to monitor it. There are other cameras located such that you cannot enter or leave Livermore in a vehicle without being recorded by camera. As a side note, that area has seen several problems in the past, from illegal dumping to street racing. I always hoped that someone would set up a camera just to catch the illegal dumpers. It used to be that every few weeks there'd be some ratty old couch and a bunch of debris on the side of the road.

Once again, prove your statement!

There are numerous video cameras at stoplights throughout the City - especially on First Street. There is a lot of drag racing and trash dumping in the Lorraine/Raymond area - hopefully that is why they're video-monitoring the area.

The lights you see on the intersection lights are not video cameras, they are what is used to detect traffic on the roadway. That is why when it is foggy the signals don't always change.

you guys don't believe there are video cameras on all routes in and out of Livermore, but there are. Look around sometime. Try to get out of town without passing one. Go on, give it a shot.

The red light cameras yes, those are the rectangular solid body cameras - generally they are painted white. The video equipment is in the smoked glass dome, like you see in department stores. It is typically mounted on the vertical pole at a corner, not above the roadway. There are many of these cameras in Livermore.

There are many of these cameras in Livermore. There are two, what appear to be cameras on the intersection light poles. One is to sense cars being in their respective lanes to signal the traffic lights to change (used to be ground sensors) and the second one is a traffic flow camera that allows traffic engineers to change light timing. There are no red light cameras in the city or cameras to monitor people. Sorry to disappoint you Anon!

Well maybe they aren't using them for recording violations, but they are red light cameras. Same camera. I was not aware they were not active (shows you how effective those things are, just the threat of them, right?) Here is a partial list of the video cameras: Vasco at Las Positas Vasco at Emily Railroad at Livermore Stanley at Murrieta Stanley at Isabel East at Mines First Street at Las Positas Las Positas at Kohl's Driveway North Canyons Parkway at Airway Blvd. Holmes Street at Arroyo Mocho Trail Crossing First Street at L Street Livermore Ave at Portola Ave Stanley Blvd at El Caminito First Street at Maple Street Vasco Road at Northfront Road Vasco Road at Tesla Road (County)

Not the rectangular ones over the roadway. The smoked dome cameras...those are CCTV camera, ie, VIDEO cameras. Like in a retail store.

Anon, no idea what you are talking about. There are two camera devices that i see on the intersections. One is the sensor that sees the strobe light from the fire truck and police cars and changes the lights to green the direction they are coming. The other one is for signal lights to sense the vehicle for the purposes for monitoring traffic. I do not see any CCTV cameras.

You know what a retail surveillance camera looks like? Have you been in a Target, or a Walmart? Look up at the ceiling, there are dozens of them. Now, with that fixed in your mind, go look at the intersections I posted. Look familiar? They are both CCTV systems.
