Why excommunication?

Bring back burning at the stake !!

The Church has been losing authority since it has been neglecting to roast people to death over a slow fire for disobedience.

It is the fault of all those environmentalists with their anti pollution laws.

The pope just ---gets no respect--- now-a -days.

Excuse me? You may need to read up a bit, but I'll save you the time and spell it out to you.

The Pope is the leader of the Catholic Church. As such, he has the authority to excommunicate any member of the Catholic church who doesn't follow it's teachings. It's simple. It's not political. It goes to the person. That person can no longer be a Catholic.

Of course, that would not mean anything to you if you are not a Catholic.

Now grow up!

If he wants respect, he should stop wearing funny hats and fur. He dresses like he wants to lead a gay pride parade every day.

Good for them, she needs to be called on calling herself Catholic, then going out and defying its tenets. Good for the Church, she needs to hang on to Catholism to retain her voting base.

Beats me. Seriously, I have no idea and he certainly should have done so. My only point was that he has the complete authority to do so, not whether he should or should not.

Perhaps Pelosi should be excommunicated. Even if we dust off 915 and believe it's somehow relevant, 1369 is the real deal. Who of us has not been affected and offended by Pelosi's hate filled speeches??? The sheer audacity of that woman is beyond contemptible. I've found a solution - when she's moving her mouth, I change the channel.

Canon 915 (interesting tidbit)
As a young priest, the future Pius XII, who came from a family of Catholic Church lawyers, was one of a handful of clerics charged with the creation of the Catholic Church's entire "Code of Canon Law". Of those who pleaded for Pope Pius XII to demand that Catholics stop killing Jews by the millions, few if any may have known of Canon # 915, and specifically invoked it, but this pope was certainly familiar with it.

Canon 1369
A person is to be punished with a just penalty, who, at a public event or assembly, or in a published writing, or by otherwise using the means of social communication, utters blasphemy, or gravely harms public morals, or rails at or excites hatred of or contempt for religion or the Church.

Of course this is political. It';s just another example of the panzer pontiff trying to control those he thinks are his minions. You think he'd give this a second thought if it was Zelda Grobisher of Tuna Springs, Oregon? It's the Speaker of the House of the United States government.

While you are at it, excommunicate all the pedophiles, divorcees, once a year mass goers, birth control users, pro-chioce, those who voted for Obama, skimpers of tithes, those who knowingly moved criminal to new places to ruin, etc. etc...

And good for american catholics, who become more disenchanted with the RCC's heavy-handed approach and 14th-century thought processes. I doubt excommunication would hurt Pelosi's fan base.

Stick around, there are more and more rumblings of a schism here, where an american catholic church will break off from the RCC over crap like this, birth control, etc.

Funny thing happened to me. The RCC says they are willing to okay my husband's petition for an annulment. We got kids and have been married a long time. Now I guess - we've never been married in their eyes and he can tie a new knot with his oh so religious playmate. Isn't that a kick in the hiney. I'm going to tell the Bishop to stick his horsehockey where the shine don't shine. He can tell my kids that the marriage never really happened. Excommunicate me? Bugger them, I quit.

Yes, yours in the kind of story that made me leave the RCC so many years ago.

My favorite silly (but true) RCC story is this: My brother, a Catholic, was engaged to marry a nice Catholic girl and had to, of course, meet with the Priest prior to scheduling the wedding. You would think that there would be no problem for this young Catholic couple to get married. But, as predicted, something came up.

Since it was my brother's contention (and truthfully so) that he had never been married before, the Priest INSISTED that he prove that he was never married before. How does one prove that one has never been married before? Is there a paper for that?

Anyway, our Dad had to sign some paper vouching for the fact that his son was not previously married - a co-signor if you will...lol

The RCC comes up with some pretty crazy rules.

P.S. Brother and wife are now divorced...lol

The RCC still considers everyone who has been married, having been 'CIVILLY' married. The question would be if at the time that the vows were exchanged, if it ( the marriage )was 'Sacramental'.

Well, if one wants to be married in The Roman Catholic Church, then one must adhere to the rules.
The same can be said of many churchs.

That wasn't the point. The point is, you can't prove a negative--he could not prove he WASN'T married before. It's an asinine and illogical question.

Call me silly, but I prefer to be a member of the Church that Christ formed while he was alive on Earth.

Gee, that was over 2,000 years ago, and it's still going strong. Maybe Jesus knows something all you haters don't know.
