I understand the water company made some much needed improvements and there hasn't been a rate hike since 1991...so obviously a rate increase is warranted. But at the same time, economic times for residents are tough...purse strings are tightened...people are losing their jobs...homes are being foreclosed...people are scared and in economic trouble. So how about a compromise. Instead of an immediate 100% increase, how about a 25% increase every year for the next 4 years. Most likely Aqua is making profit, just not as much as they want...but some of the residents are living on the financial edge. So I am sure Aqua can afford this compromise and I believe the residents could accomodate it as well. It is a win/win...compromise!

We need to get used to this our countries utilities have been privatized so these companies will have to double our bills so the can reward their CEO hundreds of millions of our dollars. Thanks to the GOP we can have this to look forward to. Thanks Mitch!

Coming from a small rural town as well, I feel for your pain. Here to, rates run high. A home of two can raise a mothly water/sewage bill to over $100, more than the cost of the electricty. Small towns we need to unite and overcome at the state level.

I feel since most of us can't go dig our own well when we feel we're being stretched beyond the limit of common sense we should just then not bother to do anything because the state will not respond responsively (to benefit the citizen not big business). The Utility won in my community. We went through the process, educated individuals brought forth damaging public recorded facts of unethical business practices and we still lost. Whew who for the common Joe! If it were the pioneer days then we wouldn't need utilities but since it's not and we do, there has to be some common ground. Buying a utility for profits sounds like being a police man, nurse or teacher for profit. We should be paying them better but instead we give it to the water company????

I understand they need make up for the money they spent on everything. Why do they have to raise the rates and the usage? Why couldn't they do one or the other?

They only hold meetings for protocol. They rates will be want they deem fit. The state should be responsible for a percentage of the cost. Come on ''my man mitch'' release some of your surplus. Here in stockwell they said one monthly price for sewage 30 dollars but now we pay 50. I dont agree with rate hikes. Everyones passing the buck, and the people at the bottom always end up paying.
