NRH...TEXAN...GOTTA Question for y'all....since the debt is at trillions of dollars....logically it would seem that the only way to trim it down would be with not only huge spending decreases...but with raising SOME taxes..what do y'all think? You too Defiant...

The mathematics of shrinking the debt doesn't look good with only spending cuts...even huge ones...

I think we all are going to have to sacrifice for many generations to pay off the debt that a few generations have run up. Higher taxes, or at least less tax breaks and less govt services. It will take a while to just get us to a balanced budget, let alone back to actually paying down our debt. i doubt if I will see it in my lifetime, and I have a lot of years left.

Republicans are for a free ride. They want no tax on what they make, gives them more while everyone else has to get by on less. Bush had a record surplus which he turned into a record deficite in less than one year, yep Republicans are the answer all right. Democrats, tax and spend, yep that's the answer. Cut wasteful spending, cut the tax breaks. That will never happen even though it is the only way to fix the economy. Cut foriegn aid, take care of our own for a change.

Raising taxes along with decreased spending is the only way that this massive debt will be paid off. You can bet that this won't be brought up during an election year.

The fact that so many people are struggling financially at this time, makes raising taxes a bad idea for a while.
