Just wondering if anyone knows about www.thecarolinascoop.com ?
I go to it every day, and although the format is kind of difficult to navigate, it seems to have the most on the scene and updated topics for local news. Hopefully they'll be able to correct the layout problems, but other than that I really like the site.

Yeah, I love to visit the local non Lincolnton Times Websites like Carolina Scoop and the other one that puts out the free paper at the bank. But yeah the navigation is horrible and I kind of dislike some of their features but as far as the news it brings I have learn a few things WAY before Lincolnton Times reported on them either in the paper or on the website.
Good Site

What I like most is there's things in there that never even appear on the other sites. From what I understand, he's really got in insiders track on fire/police happenings in the county.

Jon Mahew is on WLON radio right now. They've fixed the format on The Carolina Scoop website. Much easier to navigate, and still more information about Lincoln County news than I can find anywhere else.

Did this guy get fired from the Times-News? I remember him when he was there. Seemed niced enough.

What was the scoop on that?

I have no idea how the transition came about from employee to business owner. I do agree however, he seems like a really nice guy- I've met him a couple times in social/business settings.

I just keep hearing more questionable things about him.

There and in Statesville. Didn't know if there was some truth to it.

As far as being "an ambulance chaser" and "gangsta, gangsta" are concerned, I know for a fact the guy you are so blythly dismissing is actually one of the most informed newspeople in Lincoln and surrounding counties.

As far as his "questionable" history is concerned, country_lawyer, isn't it a bit libelous in what you're saying?

I know Jon Mayhew personally, and he's nothing but an upstanding individual who has a true passion for news and presenting news in Lincolnton and Lincoln County.

Prior to him becoming a business owner, he was the editor for another Lincoln County newspaper that went out of business (temporarily) at the end of December 2007.

Again, please know your facts before commenting. It's better than a man be silent than prove he is ignorant by opening his mouth....

I've heard from my friend, NewsguyNC, that people are saying certain things about me personally that I find questionable....

Country_lawyer, since you are so convinced that you know me, I'd invite you to call my office anytime and discuss with me things you've "heard." Unless my phone rings, then I will dismiss you as someone who is merely stating an uninformed opinion, someone who is simply spouting bilgewater about something you know nothing about.

Fact of the matter is, I've worked for some real bastards in the broadcasting and newspaper/journalism industry. Others I've worked for -- like The Housers at The Lincoln Tribune -- were nothing but kind and gracious to me.

I started my own online newspaper eight months ago because the focus has gone away from LOCAL news. People want to read about crime stories; they want to read about who got arrested and who died; and while they could care less about the "feature" stories, people like to read those too.

Yes, I have an "inside track" on fire/police in Lincoln County. That's what people want to read about, the folks that are putting their lives on the line everyday to keep us safe and protected. These people deserve applause for the work they do, and they deserve to have an outlet to report the good things they're doing.

As far as I am concerned, country_lawyer, call my office anytime. I'd be glad to talk with you and set you straight.

Sincerely,

Jon Mayhew

Keep up the good work Jon.
You, Elizabeth and your staff are obviously working hard to get current information on local stories to all of us. I appreciate the fact I can just get online and see breaking news, and happenings right around me.
Re: Native's comment, if you do have the time/ability to add a page with some local historical references, I think that would be quite interesting.

Jon Mayhew has been fired from more major publications then I care to type out. He is a lying, cheating, idiot that has no place in any public spotlight.
