Last Spring they seemed to be a batting cage that opened up close to the car mike but I guess it shut down not enough costumers I dont guess.
But being a child that grew up playing baseball and never had any actual lessons just a father and then later a coach. I can't really help ya. Just to say that they are a lots of great coaches out there who look for potential at all times. I play'd 3rd Base most of my life and my last year playing my coach who had a winning track record decided to invite me out to a pitching session with his pitchers. Thats when he learned I should stay on 3rd Base...lol |

Thanks....My 9yr old son has pitched in many games including both travel and Rec. Ball. His two seam fastball and change up are his best pitches--he can pitch around 40 mph and is a good closer. |

Hmm, sounds like he is already ahead of a lot of kids his age. Id just say sign him up but If I remember correctly I didnt play player pitch until I was a teenager before that it was coaches pitch (instead of tee ball) and machine pitch.
However, even though you played the whole year against a machine when you made it to the All Star Team you faced a real pitcher. |

He has been playing kid pitch since he was eight and played travel ball/machine pitch at seven. He is advanced for 9 and bigger than most of his peers his age (5 ft tall/wt 110)on a good low inside pitch he can easily hit 200+ ft. Just looking to keep him in active during the winter break. |

Yeah, I get that. I remember I use to play for Boger City in the Fall (Fall Ball) and I guess I played Lincolnton in the Spring/Summer.
I dont know if they still do Fall Ball but I am sure the season has already started. If they still do it. I would say keep him active through running basic drills to keep him in shape and you can always takea drive and hit different batting cages around. It would be great time spend with him as well as seeing the world around him. When I was little I went to the batting cage in Gastonia at the putt putt place and most of my memories are hitting at the one down at the beach. However, I do recall going to a few other ones including an indoor batting cage, and a couple in Mooresville and I believe Cherryville. Not good with names...sorry. |

1 Ca he not stay active on his own? Parents flip me out. Get him lessons? Ask him if HE WANTS them. That would be so discouraging to my son if I had him going to pitching classes. Is he palying for you or himself? He is a kid, let him be a kid. Give him containers in the back yard to pitch at. Let him pitch to you or a dad or uncle or someone. Pay for lessons for a kid that good like you are saying he is would be so ridiculous. Of course that is just he way I see it. I practiced on the side of a barn with a square drew on the side. Let him do the drawing all over the side of the barn or shed and let him figure out hw he would like to pitch to the imaginary frined standing tere, instead of someone telling him how. Geez! |

1 First off that's your opinion and your entitled to it. I don't agree and I am entitled to that. You don't know of the many hours we have put in practicing at home and private lessons--you don't know my sons drive and determination to become better and play competitive Baseball/ one goal he has set for himself is to play College Baseball and I will do everything possible to help him achieve this and any other dream he has. I have never forced him to practice or coerced him into something he did not want to do. We have many discussions about the amount of time he spends in this sport and I assure you it his desire to play. What is it to you if our family can afford private lessons and top of the line equipment/travel ball fees/travel expenses, etc. All I wanted to know about was safe reliable batting cages close by without traveling to Charlotte during the Winter. |

Yeah, I kind of agree with both of you. I personally, never had that stuff and I played all the way up to high school. I have had many problems with my knees and my eye sight so I was unable to play in highschool. But I never needed private lessons or anything.
I also used a pitch back as well as the roof of my house to catch fly balls and I threw my own fly balls to catch. It was certainly better. I was focused on playing but if I needed the break or just didnt wanna play for awhile I could always go in or play something else. I also had friends that although we never played on the same team or even against each other (the one year age difference made the difference in some leagues) we still would play in the backyard and see how hard we could throw it at each other or to see what tricky catches we could make. My dad taught me reflexs which is something most coaches would hate for a player to do. I made many great catches in games but I was always put down for the way I did it. I wouldnt hold my glove out or up...I wouldnt even bend down for grounders until it was right there at me. Because for me it was easy to be relax...take a breath and catch the ball. Trust me, I caught line drives much better this way than holding the glove in front of my face the whole time waiting on the ball. But if you feel you and your child needs this go for it but that 9 years of age does shock me that he seems soo good at such a young age...you must have a real wiz kid so to speak. Id encourage it either way as long as its not work. Fun is the main point of the game. I have a cousin who currently plays in a farm league for a MLB team and he got there by playing through The Post. And a few of my former team mates played for the post and have gone on other aspects of the sport not just playing. One wants to be a college coach another one just wants to be able to coach for his sons team and be there just like his father was for him. Gastonia's if it still active is probably your best bet...although I believe they are quite a few amusement parts that have batting cages in the concord area. |

1 Just give him the credit for what he can do now and in a few years he will out grow it all and then you have saved yourself a lot of head aches. LOL Geeze! |

1 Why don't you mind your own BUSINESS==Geeze putting your two cents in where it's not needed. Go back to the "Peanut gallery" and stay there!!! Worry about your own life before you start directing others. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones--a nice quote which appropriately applies to this post. |
