Can someone tell me how Agate got its name, and why the name was changed from the original of Gebhardt? Thank you - my email is

Agate got it's name from a gate that was along the railroad. On the maps for the engineers it was marked as "A Gate". So this is where the name came from

I am trying to find info about Agate history . I have found some but would like more. Agate became known as Agate in 1882. As PM I would like to help to clean up Agate and put us back on the map.I am the Post master of Agate.
