Steps back? Sounds like he's not backing down at all. Why should he care if he angers such a small segment of society that he clearly recognizes as deviant? As an American he is entitled to his opinion. Go ahead and boycott PLEASE. If you can resist.

While entitled to his ignorant and harmful opinion, others are also entitled to point out the irrational prejudice he promotes only results in needless suffering and death.

But he not only expresses an irrational prejudice, he spends millions in an attempt to use the law to harm others. His desire is to use the law to refuse to treat others the way he wants to be treated.

Cathy funds efforts to deny legal equality.

Some states and the federal government do not treat the legal marriages of gay people equally under the law to the marriages of straight people. Gay people are also denied equal legal treatment in the areas of public accommodations, housing, employment, parental rights, in addition to the 1,138 federal rights of marriage denied to gay people.

What efforts?

State and federal laws as you mention, are set by the people.

Whether passed by the legislature or by popular vote, funding is involved in passing laws. Lobbyists as well as advertisements, signature drives, and other efforts require money. Cathy gives money to groups such as the AFA, NOM, and other organizations that work to deny legal equality.

"The very purpose of a Bill of Rights was to withdraw certain subjects from the vicissitudes of political controversy, to place them beyond the reach of majorities and officials and to establish them as legal principles to be applied by the courts. One's right to life, liberty, and property, to free speech, a free press, freedom of worship and assembly, and other fundamental rights may not be submitted to vote; they depend on the outcome of no elections." (US Supreme Court)

"All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression." - Thomas Jefferson

Sure. The "focus on the family" CULT, the "afa", the "frc" the "cwa", are the groups that this nutball contribues to.

As documented, they are not just expressing a hateful and destructive opinion, but spending money to support writing their irrational, scientifically unsupportable prejudice into law.

Using the law to force their narrow, destructive religious beliefs on the entire population goes far beyond simply expressing an opinion.

The money you're speaking of is a trickle compared to the money supporting gay issues. From the press to the president it seems like there's a general plan to have everyone engaged to a same sex partner as fast as possible. With only 2% or so of the population admitting to being gay it's amazing how their platform eclipses that of black Americans who hover around 13%.

There are all kinds of religious perspectives out there, but do you really see them as any match for the constant stream of pro-gay language that has permeated our media for decades now? Cathy has been doing this for years, so what? Has he made any progress? Not from what I have seen.

Still, you have that urge to utterly crush him because of his opinion don't you?

It is the minority special interest groups, whatever they may be, using the law to force their narrow, and destructive beliefs on the entire population.

I am not proposing any laws that would deny to him the legal rights I enjoy.
He is trying to use the law to deny to all gay people the legal rights he enjoys.

You have no evidence we are trying to "crush" him.

There is plenty of evidence including his own admission, he is trying to use the law to refuse to treat us the way he wants to be treated. We are merely trying to get him to stop using his millions to harm us through denial of equal treatment under the law as required by the constitution.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Scorpio

Don't believe everything you see today and your memory could be playing tricks on you, too. You might remember things in a distorted or false way, through no fault of your own. You may also be reading too much into the situations that are going on around you, making it hard for you to know what's really happening. Try not to make any big decisions today because you simply aren't thinking straight.
