i think that the cameras may be a good thing but the overall picture in my opinion is that the yellow light is not long enough for reaction time to be able to stop safely. there are many lights all over that are not safe because of the timing issue to stop. canada has a great idea...when the yellow is about to come on they have a sign above that tells you that the light is about to change. you then have enough reaction time to get stopped before the light turns red because you then know. across georgia each light is different therefore it is difficult to judge timing and stopping distance. hwy 316 is a tough one because some lights are on down hill slopes and when yellow comes you cant get safely stopped without ending up in the intersection. which is as dangerous just as running the light. this info is coming from a tractor-trailer driver who battles stopping distance all the time at lights. thanks for allowing comments. georgia needs to look into canada's light system. it was a easy, safe and comfortable coming up to signal lights once i understood the system. i was better prepared and not so tense wondering if the light was going to change and if i was going to have to risk my trailer coming around on me or if i was going to be able to get stopped.

These lights are a joke. They cost more than they're worth. Get rid of them. Its like putting a speed trap up electronically. Spend the money on real officers. This is a waste.

The red light cameras are all about making money. They are managed by private companies than earn revenue from citations issued by their machines. Only the police should issue tickets. And the earlier post is the truth regarding the time duration of the yellow light, usually less than four seconds. Make the intersections safer with longer time duraton for the yellow lights or a countdown timer for the yellow light. And if people still want to run the light when it's red fine them a realistic fine for putting other peoples life and property in danger.$500 ??

they claim it is all about safety,I heard that the rear end collisions at these camera lights has spiked, and that there is a similar amount of accidents anyways. I believe it is all about the money, and since points aren't given to the offenders, if you can afford it, they won't stop. The best part of it is if you are hit by a red light runner, the evidence is all caught on film. As someone who lived in Canada most of my life, I have never seen these new intersection lights Elisha mentions, but I know for sure, they would be cost prohibitive. Common sense is always the best solution.

It's definitely NOT about SAFETY. It's not about ILLEGALITY. It's about MONEY!!!!
A ticket does not stop you from running it and if you run it you may or may not cause an accident. If you caused an accident, it's too late. This is all after-the-fact arguing. |
