But just what does don't let the white kids walk you down mean? Frankly, it sounds like a comment that should bring criticism but probably won't...

That was a very inspiring story. Morehouse is as great as any of the Ivy League Schools. I'm so happy I read this story. What a fine young man he is. I wish him all the best.

Well the comment probably meant "Crabby" to not let the white kids get to you. Sure, if a honky had said it instead of a black man, it would be a bigger deal, but get over it, he was just tying to make conversation and be homey. I mean I had a guy say to me last night that "blacks" are scared of dogs. Well, yeah, maybe some are, but I know a few honkies that are afraid of dogs too. The white boy was ballsy going to the school and earns props for staying there and doing what he needed. No reason for the Afican American students to worry about a trend though. Very few white boys would pick Moorsehouse over Harvard or Yale, etc. Not because it's not a great school, but because most could not do as well in the environment as this kid did. Congratulations to the school and to the kid--and to his fellow students who accepted him. This story unfortunately illustrates how divided we remain racially in this country.

Why is this such a big story? I mean other HBCU's have had valedictorians be white. Why weren't they "big news"? What makes this such an issue?

It ties in with Barack on his way to becoming president and that he's the first in Morehouse's 141 year history.

You lament about how racially divided this country is and go on to call white people honkies.... People like you are part of the problem.

congrats joshua packwood! i respect the history of morehouse, but diversity brings out the best in all of us. i am proud joshua and proud of morehouse for making his story possible. morehouse males have a legacy that transcends color--they truly are renaissance men and joshua has already proven that he can carry on that tradition. of course it helps that he is a hottie.

i am sure some of the morehouse fellas gave him a hard time, but like the USA at large, i am convinced that number was in the minority as opposed to the majority. prejudice/racism/bigotry escapes no one and it should be intolerable everywhere.

for the record, morehouse and many other all black institutions welcome diversity. white students don't apply b/c they either don't know or are unaware. i hope to see more joshua packwoods light up the headlines.

in a strange way, this is the kind of change that probably mlk envision and that obama is trying to make us accept. i am all for it.

The guy is kind of cute too. I wish people would stop being so racist and learn to except or just tolerate others that are different. The world would be a better place and all the haters know it.
