I witnessed a Scottsburg Police Officer pick up his kid from Austin preschool today in his Scottsburg City Police Car. The problem, he put the 4 year olds booster seat in the front seat of his police car and let the kids ride in the front! How is that for breaking the law? Kids must ride in boosters until they're like 7 or 8 and 80 pounds.

All of the other parents seen a police officer break the law but yet they have to explain to thier kids why they have to sit in the back seat and use a booster even though the policemens kid can sit in the front seat!

I wonder if the police chief or the mayor is aware of this behavior? What would be said, heaven forbid, if he was in an accident and the child got killed? He was breaking the law, would insurance pay? Would he loose his job? Would he be fined?

Set an example for all of the other preschool children and parents. You are a law enforcement official after all, so don't break the law!

This truely is sad. This officer needs to be taken in and shown some of the car crash videos that are on YouTube. Why would anyone be willing to risk the life of the children by letting them ride in the front seat. There are warnings right on the sun visors of every vehicle telling you not to let kids ride in the front. I pass people all the time with kids not restrained properly, does people really just not care? The police need to do a better job enforcing these rules and saving lives.
How would our community feel if it lost a child due to this kind of neglect? Be a parent, take care of your kids, and buckle them up the proper and legal way!

So why is a Scottsburg Police car in Austin when the officer is not even working? Austin police can't use their cars for personal use, why can Scottsburg? Picking up a preschooler in a City owned police car and then letting the kid ride in the front seat, what kind of parent could do something like that? I hope this nonsense makes the papers and is investigated!

I have seen him do this two times since. He has actually been in uniform and on duty the past two times! Surely Austin is out of Scottsburg boundries for officiers. Hopefully ISP will see this and he will be pulled over and fined.

Thats ok because i see austin city police cars in crothersville in front of subway. You have your on city officers to worry about, let the scottsburg residents worry about where there police cars are. There police cheif wouldnt do anything about it anyway. But i would like to mention the scottsburg police car coming from seymour about every morning passing everything up on the road. You have to understand that the officers anywhere in that county are just crooks with badges

the whole point is the poor preschool kids that is not restrained properly and the law that the officer is breaking! the fact that they are outside the limits is one thing, but endangering the kids is another!

Do you use your cell phone while driving? Do you smoke around your child? Do you take your child to fast food restaurants? Do you let your child ride his/her bike without a helmet? The above are all things that are not recommened for young children. I believe you should take a look at indiana laws before your begin throwing stones. You said this child was in a booster seat which is the law so how was this officer breaking any laws. Why don't we commend this officer for being a family man and being their for his child rather than put him down for facts you can't even get straight. Furthermore are you aware that some vehicles are equiped with sensors that turn the airbag off when the weight is to low to meet manufacturer standards. This officer does not sound like he was doing anything wrong i believe you just don't want him in you beloved town--So the next time you or your loved one is in need of emergency assistance and this officer is the closest emergency responder in your wonderful town i hope you don't expect him to stop and help you. I also believe if more fathers were involved in their childrens lives then this officer and other scottsburg officers wouldn't be called to as many calls involving your children up to no go in Scottsburg.

I don't think it's right that he lets the child ride in the front seat. It's very dangerous. I also don't understand why he's in Austin while on duty. Whatever.

I don't care how close Austin & S'burg are - he is a SCOTTSBURG police officer. There is no reason for him to be in Austin in his police car. Period. If he is taking a break, he should not be using his commission.

I hope that te mayor, police cheif, and state police are all at the preschool hidding and waiting to see this take place. I will be making some calls to the state level to see what can be done about this.

It is not right that any law enforcement officer can break an laws! Putting kids in the front seat is one of the laws being broken! Set an example for the public and follow the laws.

How can an officer write people a ticket for improper restraint, speeding, failure to signal, etc. if they are breaking the same law theirselves? This just blows my mind! No wonder the world is so corrupt!

The only thing that I have seen take place on this forum is a lot people bitching about a Scottsburg officer in Austin. I have only a couple of questions... the next time your house is on fire and the Austin fire department needs help is Scottsburg's department supposed to stay in Scottsburg? The next time there is an accident on the interstate at the line that divides Austin and Scottsburg do the Scottsburg and Austin departments dare cross the line? The next high speed chase that takes place is Scottsburg police officers supposed to stop at the "Welcome to Austin" sign and let Austin's cops handle the situation? No if this happened then everyone would be bitching on here that they didn't do there job. The sad reality is that our county is in pathetic shape with drugs and prostitution (that does not stop at city lines) and all you people seem to care about is a police officer who seems to love their kid.
Atleast the kid has a dad who seems to want to be active in his or her life. God forbid this kid not be another Scott County statistic.

I cannot believe the things that some people involve themselves in. Do you really think that this matter has anything to do with you? If so you might want to try Google--type in "Indiana Child Restrain Laws" and see what you come up with. You might be enlightened. You really should spend more of your precious time concerning yourself with your own problems. I am very sure that will keep you busy!
