There are two St. Bernard dogs (one male and one female) that are let out by their owner to roam our neighborhood (High St./Maple St./Main St./Free St. in Lisbon Falls) almost every night. They're nice dogs -- and even get along well with the cats in the neighborhood -- but they're causing a problem for us.

Whether it's because of hard economic times or because there are so many transient renters in this area, there are a lot of abandoned cats around here too. These are NOT feral cats; they're abandoned domesticated cats who have no hunting skills. So, rather than see them starve, we put food on our back steps for them in the evening. Now, the St. Bernards are eating the food that we set out for the cats -- and we can't afford to feed St. Bernards. They eat like horses!

Lisbon Animal Control is notoriously cruel and inhumane (that's the word around Lisbon Falls), so I do NOT want to call them! Who else can I call for assistance in this area? I don't want to see any of these animals be taken to a pound; I want someone "in authority" to deal with the owner of the dogs (who, according to neighbors, lives in a yellow house on High St.). The dogs appear to be malnourished and it's irresponsible of their human to let them run loose around town.
