Now that this battle has been won something should be done about what is going on at the existing land fill. Everything that you worried about coming to Cornersville is taking place off of Mooresville Hwy. as we speak. This is still in your county and there should be just as much support to stop WM at this site. This site sits less than two miles from schools.

I am not sure but isn't there a contract with the current site? The county needs to start enforcing the violations.

you can't stop that site - it will be there for eternity. county just needs to get better attorneys to enforce regulations

yes, there is a contract that was agreed upon long ago before this group of commissioners were in. i think they have learned alot about what to put in a contract judging from what they discussed in the negotiating committee meetings. I'm sure there will be more to come from WM. Bet SS is sick right now!

It's a magnificent victory for the citizens of Marshall County but there still remains the very large problems within our own government here. I hope people remain aware and watchfull of the going's on.

This year our commissioners voted to let the existing landfill expand another 11 acres, that is 11 acres closer to the schools that our children attend. From how far away is this garbage coming and who is watching them?

Absolutely essential - don't BLINK or SNEEZE - Waste Management would not have withdrawn without another scheme in the works!

There couldn't be a better time for the large problems that exist in both our county and city governments to be a central theme for proactive participation by all of us citizens. IT'S CALLED COMMUNITY.

I second that! Dot all the 'i's and cross all the 't's.
Don't give WMI or any other potential contaminating company an inch of play or they will try this again.
And don't forget, they are not out of the county, they are still at CR, so they have only stepped back from the south end of the county.
According to what they wrote in that letter, and I am paraphrasing here... they realized that they needed to do some work on how they presented their innovative technology to we yokels, so we can understand just how wonderful they are. Apparently we failed to grasp and appreciate their new type of garbage dump, so I'm guessing that they are going back to the drawing board and put together a public relations campaign to convince us that we need their new, improved trash hill.
But to give them credit, they did mention in the letter that those people who were opposed to WMI actually listed reasons and concerns as to why we didn't want another leaking dump in our county instead of just repeatedly saying we didn't like dumps.
My gut tells me that I shouldn't trust that company as far as I can toss a grand piano.

FYI, this forum lists my IP in some other state, but in reality, I live in Cornersville, TN.
And I'll repeat what I said on the other forum a moment ago, we now need to help our neighbors who are suffering due to possible wrongdoing by some of our elected officials, possibly in cahoots with some businesses. I would like to hear the facts on the contamination the asphalt plant will cause and what damage is being done by the quarries...and of course how those projects got voted in despite the citizens' opposition.
We need to stick together and clean up the messes we have right now and prevent future ones from harming our county, state, and country. When one of us is hurt, we all hurt eventually.

Now we need to bring the Bible Theme Park to Marshall County. Rutherford County didn't want it, but we need it!! We could have more industry, if TW would get off the Golf Course.

WMI is sharp. Just when we least expect them, Watch out ! When you smell defeat like WMI did the best thing to do is backup and punt. They will just wait until we let our guard down and try it again. WMI has not gone away, They still have a foothold here in our county. So before celebrating a victory, Just remember there are 10 rounds in every fight !
It's not over until the fat lady sings !

I think that the Old South Theme Park is a much better option and would draw ten times more people and funds into our county.

Bible Theme Park may be offensive to other beliefs. If it is built, it should not cost tax payers anything. It should be totally a private run business.
I, too, am for Old South Theme Park.
All that potential waste will have to be dumped somewhere. It could be in our county, for sure, someday.
