why do they need Tahoe's, some of the largest least efficient SUV's out there, even w/hybrid?
Why not a smaller Ford Escape if an SUV is even needed?
What does the technology of an SUV have to do with a commercial vehicle like a bus? There will be nothing learned from and SUV that applies to a freaking bus.
This is everything that is wrong with our government in a nutshell.

Because they can., there is no oversight of any of these agencies, and increased fares, fees, and taxes just keep the system running.

No reform, just spend, spend, and spend........

MART should have talked to the MBTA, who has been running hybrid/alternative fuel buses for several years. Again, this appears to be a "I want one too!" mentality,
patterned after Deval Patrick's purchase...

"I try to make MART as an operation very effective and responsive to its customers," Kahn said.

That's a joke. My daughter uses the MART subscription service to get home from school each day. I have had so many problems with MART; I wrote to Mr. Kahn and requested a meeting to discuss the issues I have had with the program. He never returned my e-mail.

In my experience, he is certainly not responsive to the customer. Instead of my daughter, having to be on the bus for almost an hour on some days (from Fitchburg to Leominster), maybe the money could have been spent on vehicles to transport the schoolchildren that need to use this service. As it is, we pay $50.00 a month and are not reimbursed for days our daughter does not go to school even though we need to call MART to let me know that she is out of school so they don't drop her off the pick-up list. Even though they said they would reimburse me for some of he days there were issues, I have yet to see a penny. I guess as a customer I am supposed to chase them, as they are the only option in town.

Mr. Kahn, your actions are not indicative of being responsive to your customers. It illustrates your arrogance in the position in which you sit.

Um if you're testing something, why would you buy it and not lease it as a fleet vehicle? Someone clearly wasn't thinking.

Moreover, why don't they first do the research on the cost/efficiency impact of using hybrid buses vs. standard diesel buses? Oh, I see, MART is planning on using hybrid SUV's in the future for public and school transportation?

Right, I guess we are all the stupid ones. Spend money foolishly, make sure its green, lie about its purpose, and nobody can complain....

A couple of Honda Civics would do the same job and for about 70 grand less. But, they don't give a damn--it's not their money that they're p i s s i n g away.

Jealous people.

Please give me a break.

If you work at McDonald's you ride a bike.

Executives deserve as a benefit these types of vehicles A luxury and convenience for the services they provide. In this case to the community. I am not sure if you people have noticed that Mr. Kahn has worked well past his retirement. Bringing a boatload of public services to this community.

This kind of unnecessary spending by the MART has been on going for many years.
From head of management to gas line attendant, several dispatchers and garage personnel have MART vehicles for personal use. These vehicles are serviced and fueled by MART personnel.
Another waste of tax payers money are the years of testing computers for at least fifty vehicles or more costing thousands of dollars. These computers never worked correctly and not to forget employing many technicians who design them and service them.
The way the economy is and the price of gas, it's upsetting to see this unnecessary use of tax payers money.
If Mr. Kahn and Mr. Rocha are allowed to use these hybrid SUVs, then mileage should be carefully monitored.
I think the MART should be investigated in past, present and future to keep watch on where the tax payers money is going.

Everyone is jumping on Kahn for all this BULL**** the MART is pulling.... and yes, he does have the final say. But most of this ridiculous nonsense and unnecessary spending along with the stupid rules and LIES are Phil Rocha's ideas. Mr. Kahn just goes along with him most of the time. So much has been swept under the rug. Mr. Rocha love his trucks and SUVS!!!

No jealousy here. I am in a upper level position within a federal agency and pay for my own car and gas. I make enough to be able to do that and would think Kahn does too. Your statement sounds like the typical "entitlement" mentality that unfortunately has been passed down to our kids. If he has worked past his retirement, maybe it is time for him to step down and let a new management team take over the inefficient operations at MART. This is nothing personal against Mr. Kahn as I do not know him. It is a commentary of what I have witnessed as a taxpayer. Accountability is required when an organization is spending someone else’s money.

Please educate me as to why he entitled to this luxury on the taxpayers dime? Please tell me what the boatload of “public service” he brings to the community? Please tell all of use where in the MART organization the how this “luxury” is a value-added activity utilizing our tax dollars?
