Derek Poarch was the chief of police at the University of North Carolina and was appointed to the Public Safety and Homeland Security post.
Does anyone know why he was investigated by the FBI while he was with Public Safety and Homeland Security? And was he ever investigated while he was at the Lenoir Police Department?

Any time anyone is in law enforcement or security they are being constantly investigated by the FBI for updates on their accreditations. That is standard procedures.

It amazes me how people are so worried about others. Derek Poarch worked very hard to get where he did and no he did not do anything wrong to be investigated! Come on people mind your own business!

Come on people mind your own business! That's right! If someone knows something, then out with it. If not then why cast aspersions. I've been around for a long time and I've never heard a negative thing about Derick, but as I said before law enforcement people are always being investigated so their license can be kept current. So whoever started this post up the info or shut up. It might come back to bite you in the butt.

I didn't see where Yep posted anything in a derogatory manner. Maybe he/she has good reason to inquire,(their own business) but didn't want to spread gossip. Why so quick to get defensive over a simple inquiry?

Why so quick to get defensive over a simple inquiry? It was not derogatory, but this is not the most reliable place to seek a non biased answer. There are many people that will jump in and make any person in law enforcement look "under suspicion" just for what they think if "the fun of it". If there is a personal reason for YEP to believe that someone is under investigation, then I'm sure that no one with true knowledge will be able to discuss it during the investigation due to legal reasons.

Dereks job was gone when new administration took over. Derek is a Republican, as was his uncle James and his Dad, Clarence. Dems. in now and this usually, but not all the time means you have no job.
I do not know anything about investigation, but if when he was working for HL Security, I can understand this.

Bull Shit the FBI doesn't investigate someone unless there is a problem just like the SHP investigated his brother for screwing a woman while working in the office and then firing him

I understand this isn't the most reliable place for answers, and the concern of making LEO look suspicious just for the fun of it. I just didn't see that in the original post but it seems that Yep's motives came under immediate suspicion. I just don't see why we can't answer one another without being snappy or choose not to answer at all.

Just google his name and read the information for yourself, then form an opinion as to what happened. Also, just ask any law enforcement officer that has worked with him and they will tell you what they think. It appears that you haven't talked to too many people. Officers are not continuously being investigated to keep their license current. They are only investigated when their is a reason to be investigated, either criminally or administratively.

Law enforcement/security have to be recertified every so often. It used to be 2 years for those who were issued firearms. First there is a state check, then a federal check and they are very thorough. This is standard procedure.

Derick and Monty are two different people.

So if you know it all, was up? And no, I don't bother much with Lenoir folks by rnning around asking questions on people who don't even live in the area anymore. I mean I could call my friend who did work with him and I sure do know he is a reliable source. But I would not go around gossiping about it no matter whether or not there is anything going on.

You can believe it or not BBG that's totally up to you but he kinda got caught with his hand in the federal taxpayers cookie jar and before you even say it I would not post this if I didn't know what I was talking about.

Well, why didn't someone just say that!!!!! If it's public record why didn't someone just post the link. I'm sorry to hear that he did that. I had hoped that one of the family would have been right. His dad. Well, his dad. His uncle was fired from the PO due to several letters supposedly not being delivered, his brother, well, we all know about that. Now this. From now on just be out with it if it's public record. What did or are they going to do with him? I'd think he is old enough to retire without doing bullshit.

Hey I wasn't the one that started this thread I just got tired of these guy's beating around the bush. You can just google it but this is the gist of what they are talking about.
"According to the report, Poarch routinely violated travel regulations, including using non-contract air carriers, renting premium-class vehicles, receiving per diem payments for non-work days and maintaining inaccurate time, attendance and leave records."

I know you didn't start the post and I'm with you on if they have something then say it. It seems like these things are a trend with politicians anyhow. Then when they want to get rid of one they come up with it. LOL. Political jobs, who needs them!
