Sheriff Jones tries to hide another MESS

Well, I just heard that Sheriff Jones tried to cover up that a command staff member was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, has anyone heard this?

This link through the North Carolina AOC website tells that Monty Stephen Poarch was charged with Assault on a deadly weapon in Buncombe County on Feb. 12th, 2009. I don't remember Sheriff Jones bringing this to anyone's attention. I guess he thought it was another "hire a convicted felon" program failure!

Just being charged with a crime does not mean he's guilty. All are considered innocent until proven guilty. And I do not believe that a convicted felon can be allowed to become a law enforcement officer. Maybe I'm wrong but I've never heard otherwise.

A police officer charged with a serious crime should not be covered up from the public. The officer should be on leave or suspension or something. The convicted felon was hired to work in the jail by Sheriff Jones and went to Buncombe county and did some home invasions with his badge, uniforms and a gun...not to mention the day he got out of jail, Sheriff Jones had a deputy drive the convict to Asheville in a county car to pay off a bunch of bad checks and he still hired him.

Proud only said that a staff member was arrested, not that he is guilty.

That is true, one of Sheriff Jone's captains was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon on Feb. 12, 2009 in Buncombe county. Why has the sheriff not told his department? We had to find out from someone at another agency. I guess he will send us another email message and tell us how proud of us he is while he is hiding out in quantico.

It's an entry mistake, I don't think a 108 yr old man would have assaulted someone or anything. The court date is March 3rd, 2009, it will be covered in detail.

Yeah and not to mention it is Misdemeanor AWDL, NOT A FELONY.

Two different people: the convicted felon hired by the SD, and the one just charged with AWDW.

Thanks for pointing that out, I am sure the citizens of Caldwell County feel much safer knowing that one of the Sheriff's captains is only charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon and is still on duty, carrying a gun. I am sure that having sex while on duty thing that got him fired from the SHP thing has been forgotten a long time ago.

No im not trying to downplay it just pointing out a mistake but dont dramatize it or upplay it either,we dont know the details yet. I know you have a grudge but stick to facts and just point out the truth only.

Grudge? What are you talking about, the truth and facts are all that has been stated. Sheriff Jones doesn't seem to know much about facts or the truth.

OMG, you are kidding me. Everyone in CC knows the Poarch guy and ALL the stuff he does and has done. Nothing would surprise me about this guy. He should have never been hired at the CCSO, but I think that was as a favor to his wife.

Aren't most officers charged with a crime put on desk duty or suspended with pay until the outcome of the court case? How do you know it is not a felony? I don't know much about how a person is charged so how can we find this out?

OMG, the more I find out about this place, the more I worry about being indicted for just working here. I can't believe the things going on here, they are busy looking for people posting on here, while other officers are breaking the law. It is a crying shame that we have to have meetings in secret to talk about the future of the department and if we get caught we could get fired. It just doesn't make sense.

Well nothing here makes sense. You can't tell anyone or they will fire you and the news topic is a direct line to BJ, that is why a little birdie has dropped a message to another press person and things will be looked into the right way.

I don't think that Poarch works at the CCSO anymore.
