I am appauled at the profits mechanics make. We should not have to pay the rising costs for repairs. Some places charge $50 and $60.oo per hour. DONT THEY KNOW THAT IS TOO DAMNED MUCH !!!! We need to stand up and be counted and say enough is enough...NO MORE OUTRAGEOUS PRICES...... Everyone needs a way to get around and the GOVERNMENT SHOULD SUBSIDIZE OUR COASTS

I have a very good man, probably only because Someone else set me up with him and told him to do me right. He isn't expensive and he gets right onto doing the work.

Two things:
First: A long long time ago I worked as a TV repairman and I heard the exact same complaints. All the consumer sees is the 20 min. it took to replace a tube. You’re not just paying for that 1 hour it took to replace an alternator. You’re paying for the building, for the power, for the heating/cooling of the building, for the water, for the telephone, for the internet he uses to order parts. You’re paying for his health insurance and his retirement plan. Let’s see you pay for all that and only charge 60 dollars and hour.
Second; When Obama gets done taxing small business people it’s going to cost you twice that much because the only repair shops left are going to be big box chain shops.

Let me start by saying, I am a ASE Certified Automobile Technician. When you go to the Dr. is it cheap? Does he just give out information for free? NO! Come on people I had to pay for an education just like the Dr. did. As a Technician I've had to invest 10's of 1000's of dollars in tools just to be able to properly diagnose and repair your vehicle. If it was an easy job then anyone could do it. The thing is your not only paying for the use of my tools but your also paying for my knowledge. For all of you who dont want to pay high prices for auto repair, think about it next time one of your children or you for that matter are sick and need to go to the DR. It's either pay the man for his knowledge or DIE!!! it's that simple.

we can't lump everyone together,,,but you're not far apart....air conditioner/heater broke,,,service man (with all the education) says computer part,, the cost to fix 460.00,,go ahead fix,,same evening the next call says oh that wasn't the problem we put it on it still isn't working,,,need another part additional work will bring total to 720.00,,,my question is you charged me 80.00 to hook it to a machine to tell you the problem you fix it,,wrong that wasn't the problem you try something else,,,added to what you and the computer said,,,only adding cost for me right,,but hey you think I want it so bad I will pay,,,well guess again,,,,put the vehicle back together and I will pay the 80.00 for your stupid computer to tell me what supposedly was wrong with my vehicle,,,but I want pay another dime,,,,take your part off or whatever,,,,,"its a miracle,,,you call back and say your vehicle is fixed and it was the original part,,,we just didn't hook it back up right",,,,,,pay the man take vehicle home works fine,,next day stopped working,,,call and was told bring it back,,,I will not pay anymore,,,,call comes in it is working again,,,we didn't get a wire on right!!!!!!!!TRUE STORY,,,and if my doctor made the same mistakes the mechanic did,,,I would be DEAD now,,,,,,don't compare doctors and mechanics no comparison,,,,,and the mechanic shouldn't feel he is entitled to make the same kind of money,,,well I feel better,,,I was waiting for an opportunity to vent on that story,,,thank you ver much.....

Ok, well what we have here is another case of a parts changer trying to diagnose a problem. The reason i call the person a parts changer is because they have NO CLUE as to what it takes to properly diagnose and repair a customers vehicle. They can throw/change parts all day long and still never get it fixed...I pride myself in knowing i fix it right the first time.
There is a huge misconception about being able to hook a car up to a computer and the computer tell us what is wrong...lol...There's no such thing. We are able though to scan the ECM and get the stored codes...The codes DO NOT! tell us what is wrong, they lead us in the right direction so a seasoned/knowledgeable technician can and will repair the customers vehicle right the first time. If it was this easy then any idiot could do my job...It takes a very special person to do what i do everyday.
I don't know what the problem was or is with your vehicle but maybe before you make accusations you should have your facts straight

just so you know Mr. Jeff,,I stated the facts and if there were any accusations they came from the facts. I was glad to get to vent about my problem with a very well know Chevrolet Dealership in Hickory,,and again ALL TRUE !!!!,,,I am sure there are good mechanics out there,,,somewhere,,,and you may be one of them,,,but my point about doctors was that I don't think mechanics and doctors should be compared they are no where near the same,,,a car's life and a human's life is very different and yes I am willing to pay more money to a doctor to save my life than I am to a mechanic to save my car.....

Thats fair but i didnt compare a mechanic to a doctor, i did use it as a for instance in, do you get info from them for free? Or do they work cheap?
Believe me I do understand your frustrations. Sometimes people make mistakes so please do be mad at me i didnt do anything to you.

And to government mule's post...I never really thought about it quite that way but i guess your right...like baby clothes...They cost as much or more than ours do and are only a 10th of the size...Its because the manufactures know we have to buy them...Its what makes the world go round
