Not doing the job right?

From what i know the former chief was hired on full time with the city of Lenoir and very happy there. With good reason he works for one of the best known fire depts. in North Carolina. As for his term as chief i doubt it will ever be duplicated we started out with less than 90% having nfpa 1403 to within 4 yrs to half of the dept.at state FF.1 AND FF2 level as well as running N.C. EMR CLASS and NC. EMT. Not to mention getting the dept to the light rescue certification. if you ask us the dept. lost an important resource.We have moved on to a diffrent county agency now but owe alot to the education we recieved from the dept.

lol yeah pretty much. LFD is good and the best in this county but that isnt saying much. LFD at one time was one of the best in the state but those days are gone. Any firefighter that wants to make a real career will go to places like Hickory or Charlotte. Ken Briscoe has turned LFD into his personal playground and there are no chances for advancement, they offer plenty of education but no chance to advance or use what you learn. All they can get for firefighters now are volunteers looking for a steady paycheck but after they live on that sorry pay for a few years they leave and go to real paying departments. 21K a year is some of the lowest FF pay for a city this size in NC. Do you think Ken Briscoe gives a crap about his people and how they live, no but you can bet he loves his toys and his bragging rights. He loves using stary eyed young volunteers for nearly free labor like he has with his full/part time program (no insurance or anything else).

That is very true about Ken Briscoe! All that man cares about is what is good for him and what he can brag about next!

Maybe lenoir fire would be better if they had a new chief! Someone that cares about the firefighters and wants what is best for them! I heard lenoir has only 1 person on the rescue truck that's no better than a volunteer fire department would have! That's sad!

Facts still remain kcfd still not doing their fair share now they have problems with therir first responders not having enough in service training may lose some certifications like their light rescue when will they wise up e.m.t. = 24 hrs a year, rescue = 24 hrs a year , fire training 36 hrs a year, haz -mat 12 hrs a year, total amt. of hours 86 to keep current and proficient.

Could be they exceed 86 hours, but I bet u know everything about everything, u must keep the hours for the department or work for oems or osfm. Do u live in kings creek? How many hours do u put into your VOLUNTEER Dept. Could be u want to talk about everyone but then not step up and put anytime into ur on fire Dept. I guess ur not a member considering u r talking about them, but I drive by there about everyday and 7 times out of 10 someone is there. So what job is not being done at KCFD?

ABOUT LFD…I saw where someone had said that Ken Briscoe was all about his toys and bragging rights. And I have to say AMEN! He will sit there and say that he cares about you and your well being, and that he is so glad you work for LFD, but do something to make him mad, or something he THINKS is going to make him look bad, and see what happens. I have heard him tell people “If you don’t like it then there is the door. I have 100’s of applications of people that would love to have your job.” What kind of boss would say something like that to someone he says he cares about? And he is right. There are people that would love to work for LFD, that is until they get hired, and then their minds suddenly change. That is unless they have an Ego as big as Texas and lips that are ready to kiss ass all the time. He says that he cares about the fireman that work there, but I have been on house fires with that man, and heard him say,“Get your pansy asses in there, and put the damn fire out,” and the house be burning down, fully involved, the roof all but caving in, and no one inside. And he wants the fireman to go in there for what? 21k a year? Are you freaking kidding me? I can go to Mcdonald’s and flip freaking burgers for the same money as a fireman at LFD makes. If you work there and you don’t do things the “LFD Way,” then by their standards you aren’t worth a crap. And he uses the part time people to his advantage. I have seen part time people work there for years, and I mean years. They would work there during holidays, they would even work for free just to try get a job there, and then when it came time to hire, Briscoe would push them to the side and hire someone with less time and experience. He didn’t care as long as he got what he wanted. After all part timers are good for him to use, because he knows that they are more than likely going to stay there no matter how much Briscoe shits on their face, and he doesn't have to pay them insurance. Wanna talk about promotions and raises? Yes there are raises, and there are promotions, but there is a kicker to all that. First off, if you want a raise you have to bust your ass to get all of the certifications you are required to get, and they give you a whole whopping 2 to 3% each time you get a certification and that is a joke! And if you want a promotion you had better be ready to kiss Briscoe’s ass and spit shine his shoes; because that is the only way you are going to get a promotion at LFD. It doesn’t matter how much experience you have, he will put the officer he wants in the position, no matter who he pisses off or who he stabs in the back to do it. Justlook at the Assistant Chief. There were fireman that had been there WAY before Ken Hair, but for some reason he just tip toed is way right to the top, in front of all those people. But Briscoe didn’t care after all if you don’t like it then “Hit the door,” as he would say. And I am sorry, but if you have been at LFD for 36 years, and have been an officer most of that time, it is time to hit the road and give some others a chance! People at LFD are nothing more than Briscoe’s puppets. He will dress you up how he wants you, make you talk like he wants to, and make you walk the way he wants to, and if you can’t do that then you are no good in his eyes. If anyone thinks that Briscoe cares about the fireman at LFD they are full of shit. LFD = JOKE. If don’t believe the things I have told you then try to get a job there. It is nothing more than an adult daycare.
