Now is the time to consider options other than the real estate cartel (Griffin and pals) for the primary. Griffin has recruited real esatate appriaser Arnold Wilson to replace the defecting Rob Bratcher (I hear he had enough of the hijinks)
Lenoir ended with the mayoral election part of the realtor stranglehold on local government, now it is time to finish the job.
Rocky Brooks has already begun his propaganda praising Mr. Griffin today on WJRI and the ugly yellow and black signs are up.
As with the Lenoir election i ask the question- when do we stop the conflict of interest?

Do you have one example of the current commissioners benefiting personally from actions they have taken while in office? I keep hearing this conflict of interest line but no one can give one example of it.

The mere fact that the largest property owners set the tax rates and property rules is of itself the major conflict. Plus any buying or selling of county property. It all directly affects the tax base and real estate market hence their interests. It is rather simple to comprehend really.
If it is not attractive to the realtor interest to control local politics then why pray tell do they want to do it?

Since they have not changed the tax rate or property rules it is hard to say they have done something for self interest. Why do they want to do it? Maybe they care about the community and the taxpayers. Why does anyone run for public office?

I will submit the selling of the county Happy valley aquifer was a conflict. The public good for the future is a needed source of clean water. This was agreed upon by previous boards of both parties and was supported by state and federal funds. It was sold for yet reasons unclear by the Griffinites.
The attempted purchase of the white elephant mall not supported by the majority of the board but by BG and Clay, the two realtors is another questionable move.
My main point is that by controlling public policy, oversight in building and health and the tax rate local realtors serving as commissioners or mayors and the like are in conflict and if they serve should exemppt themselves from votes that even appear to be conflicts. I think they cannot becuase unless they are retired they still appear at least to be in conflict. I personally do not think they are altruistic keepers of the public good. It is unrealistic to think so

You are free to disagree with the decisions they made on the Happy Valley land and the old mall but I have never heard that either of those decisions would benefit them personally. If you do know of something like that please post it.

Buying that land was the dumbest thing done by the Timmy Sanders crew that screwed Caldwell County more than one time. They bought it with no research done, no idea about inter basin water transfers, or the amount of infrastructure it would take to make use of that water. You cant just take water out of the yadkin river basin and pump it into the catawba river basin without a fight from every town that uses the yadkin, and thats what happened. The current ones did well by cutting the taxpayers loss and dumping it.

Didn't Mr. Griffin fire the entire Planning Department and disband the Planning Board? Wasn't the Planning Department enforcing regulations and restrictions on building new houses? Didn't the planning department also investigate illegal disposal of construction waste? Didn't Mr. Griffin disagree with the regulations the Planning Department enforced such as regulations on lot size and how many houses you can build on an acre? Did Mr. Griffin fire the entire Planning Office except for one secretary? Did he fire the Finance Officer and did't he put a man in that job whose father worked for him? His new campaign sign says "Promises Kept". Before he was elected didn't he say no county employee need worry about losing his job? What about the tax rate he promised to do something about? If he cut back the 22.2% tax increase why did no one tell us? Why does the county have a huge fund balance and why have taxes not been cut? Does it look to anyone else like he should not be running on the platform of "Promises Kept"?

Agreed with the above^^^. "Promises Kept" - LOL@That. Still waiting on that big tax cut.

He didn't want to change the rules for development, he had the puppets needed to pass the vote, because that would be too obvious. He just wanted to fire those who had dared challenge him in the past, under the guise of cutting expenses. With a depleted department no one would be there to enforce those rules anyway. Now the County suffers with no code enforcement, no long range planning and no one to guide and manage growth and development when it comes back.

Surely we can do better than what we have. The incumbents need to be shown the door. At the local level and the State and Federal level too.

I see that Arnold Wilson (who is he???) is running under the "Promises Kept" banner. How can he keep a promise when he wasnt around to make any promises??? I also see that Ingle/Church are running together. What is it with local officials who always have to have a "running mate"? Stand on you own two feet. That way you don't owe anybody but the voters any favors.

Griffin came in at the start of the worst economy since the great depression. During his time the county has prospered anyway. The reason for that is he is not afraid to say no to spending money.

If you care about how your tax dollars are spent and want to avoid another tax increase then vote Griffin, Bollinger and Wilson. If you do not care how high your taxes get as long as certain groups get all the toys they want then you need to vote for someone else.

So we must put up with one man rule in order to have low taxes?
Hitler's Propaganda chief Goebbels said "If you tell the big lie enough people will believe it."
Griffin's big lie is that only he can protect us.
I don't think so but i would gladly pay more taxes if that is what it takes to rid ourselves of this

I really challenge the idea that this county has prospered over the past four years. The news topic today had some jarring local unemployment numbers and the likely real figure is not the published 12 per cent plus but ESC officials will tell you that it is likely over 25 percent.
Our county and region is literally dying from unemployment. I think the current and past commissioners see this but have been unable to do anything about it. Maybe it is time for a change from the white house to the outhouse cause what is going on now is simply not working.
Also any candidate for any office that does not value public education is simply saying we have no future and we will die. We simply have to demand better than what we are getting politically from the local, state and national leadership

By the completely ignorant threads posted here it is obvious that we have no ome educated enough to fill the seats on our commission. These idiots haven't a clue as to what is going on with our county. We still have a more than competent code inforcement. Maybe even to many for no more building than is going on in the county. The white elephant mall would have been a much better deal for the taxpayers than the over priced Taj Mahal we settled for thanks to Mr.Greene and his clonies. As for the water supply that was a pipe dream of Mr. White and Mr. Stone. Enough said! Ben and crew might not be the best thing for the county but they r superior to what we had and to what's running against them.

Why have they kept the 22.2% tax increase. Our property values have gone down, but the tax rate is still high. Sounds like a 4 year tax increase to me. I say break up the Block and Elect folks that will stand alone. Wilson makes the signs and puts them up in his red truck. He has no clue other than what Ben and Clay tell him to do. Bratcher could not take it any longer.

They are still having to pay back the debt added by the prior board. That debt did not go away when the board changed over.

Ben and Clay need to go.
They have not helped this county now or set up anything to help in the future.
