Veterans: Thank you. Thank you for serving our country. Thank you for your bravery. Thank you for your dedication.. your heroism.. your sacrifice.. for us. Thank you for being a part of something larger than yourself and fighting for something beyond your own welfare.. our nation.. our freedom.. the Constitution.
"Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world, but the Marines don't have that problem." - Ronald Reagan “To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.”- George Washington, first annual address to Congress, 1790 “This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.”- Elmer Davis “Never give in - never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”- Winston Churchill |

The Marines are a great branch of our military, but lets not forget all the other branchs on this day of rememberance for our Veterans. All of them are equally appreciated and have made a difference in all of our lives. Thank you Veterans and I hope that you have had a good day.God bless you all.

To members of the military everywhere... Thank you.
Nothing I can say will top what has already been said. So: Thank you. |

I didn't mean it that way. I'm sorry if it seemed to be leaving other branches out. I certainly wouldn't EVER do that on purpose. My Dad was in the Air Force. I included it because I thought the quote was good. It is "so Reagan" and "so Marines." |

Lets thank all of our Confederate soldiers for their bravery!! Due to them we hold our Southern Hertiage, culture and values!! Dear God we need them today. We would not have all the degrading public officals and trash that now exist!!!
Jefferson Davis what a real man and leader!!!! |

The lenoir City Council members of the FBC could care less about our veterans they turn down the Homeless Veterans Shelter twice. Real true control freaks.

It seems that we want our Veterans to come home after laying their lives on the line for all of us and just go on as if they were not involved in a war and have no problems! Saying thank you to them is great and we all should do it, but make no mistake, our veterans are not appreciated or taken care of like they should be. Why in the world would you not want a transitional home built for the Vets who were on drugs and alcohol and then got help and got clean at a detox center? They need a place to got to where they can live, get support, get help getting a job and where they will be in a secure place and not exposed to the temptation of drugs and alcohol. I spoke to a couple of guys (Larry McMullen and Purvis Carlton) who are working on getting this home set up and they told me that only Vets who have gone through detox and are clean can get admitted. They would be in a lock down facility and no one can just walk in and out as they please. These rules would prohibit them from getting drugs brought in to them and would prohibit them from going out and getting them. They would be testing regularly and must stay clean. To have the Lenoir Planning Board just refuse to help our veterans with a worthwhile program like this tells me they do not appreciate the sacrifices these brave soldiers have made. This home would also have counseling and housing for those soldiers who have PTSD and need to be in a secure place to protect themselves and others. I would just like for someone to ask Ms. Huffstettler why she is so adamantly opposed to helping the homeless and our Veterans. Since she has been on the LPB not one homeless shelter has been approved in the city of Lenoir. If I am wrong, please please correct me, but I am not wrong. Why does the City Council go along with the decisions of the LPB without question? Do they think Lenoir is so wonderful that it shouldn't be exposed to the ugly face of the poor and the troubled? The LPB is appointed, not elected, but I think the City Council needs to appoint some veterans and some regular citizens instead of the "elite" people who are on there now. If anyone watched the presentation to the LPB by the folks wishing to set up this transitional home, it was obvious the board had already made up it's mind. Everyone deserves a second chance, especially our most precious resource, our Veterans.
