Our Commissioners are at it again. I read in the paper where they are developing a board to oversee monies and other business pertaining to fire departments and rescue squads. They only question I have is how do they think it will be fair when you have 14 representatives from the fire departments and only 3 from the rescue squads. I can already see the arguments coming. Something comes to a vote and it ends up being 14 to 4. 14 in the fire departments favor and maybe 4 in the rescue squads, 3 rescue and 1 EMS. All I can see is more fuss. How about giving the fire departments all the rescue equipment, including the ambulance service, and let them have at it. In the past they wanted the rescue part but not the responsibility of the running the ambulance service that comes with it. Either give it all to the fire departments or to the rescue squads.

Decided to take the training buy rescue tools, and start doing the job them selves, now Lenoir rescue not Lenoir fire don’t get these two confused,(Lenoir fire does a great job), has been replaced, the only bad part it has sank Lovelady and Hudson with them, however Hudson rescue combined with Hudson fire about 10 years ago which will not affect them, but who knows what will happen with Lovelady, which I might add does a great job also, but what has happen all started with poor performance and the lack of leadership, that has been building for years, the other down fall is ems will end up with the rescue tax, little money if any will float down to the fire dept's and the new rescue board or not, ems will have control over this, my ques is if the rescue dissolves in to one, transport unit, who will back up the ems when they are tied up, its not like the calls only happen one at a time, multiple calls come in at once, who will do the standbys at the football games and other events this is what I would like to know?

All that stuff needs to fall under the same umbrella. There is no need to have 17 separate agencies in a county this size. Can you imagine if a major disaster hit this area and you have 17 guys claiming to be in charge? They all serve an important function but there is no reason that they can not have some structure and unity. We ought to have the "Caldwell County Fire, Rescue and EMS Agency" with branches at the current fire department and rescue squad facilities in each community. There should be one guy responsible and accountable for all that stuff.

I have an idea. Get rid of Courtner and hire someone from out of county that will not be biased. The EMS is already funded throught the normal budget offered by the county. Allow the fire and rescue money be in a separate line item on the budget away from the EMS. If not, then dissolve EMS being county controlled and let private medical services do the job like larger cities do. That way the tax payers don't have to worry about the funding anymore.

I was always amazed at how impressed he was with himself. It was all about how many times he could be mentioned in the paper or at the meetings. Sad part is, he could be a decent human being if he wasn't such a scammer
