Just curious, has anyone here been approached recently by a man who asks for money in the Q4life parking lot?
It happened last evening after dark. he said he had 2 little girls, needed kerosene, he tried to contact DSS but couldn't reach anyone, etc. He sounded very sincere.
Seemed kind of strange to be in the parking lot after dark to ask for money. Just curious...

The guy I'm thinking of has been pestering the Kentwood neighborhood for years, needing money for kerosene or diapers or something. He prowls around people's back yards, as well. Maybe him, maybe not...

When people approach me in a parking lot asking for money, it makes me wonder about their TRUE motivations. I never give people money. It's dangerous, and frankly, I don't like the thought of buying drugs or alcohol for an addict. I ALWAYS offer to get them food, though. Most of the time, they don't want food... even if they have a "hungry" sign. I keep a little card in my purse with numbers of local ministries that help people. Most of the time, they don't want that either. The ones who take advantage of people just to score a high REALLY HURT the ones who genuinely need help because even good hearted people eventually become cynical when they're just used over and over.

He was asking the same last week at Broyhill Walking Park about 2pm and mentioned his daughters and the kerosene. We did not see a vehicle either. GREAT info and thanks for sharing. Stay alert out there and careful. dontknowforsure wrote: Just curious, has anyone here been approached recently by a man who asks for money in the Q4life parking lot? Lenoir PD and Quest4life need to be notified this is happening. Not too long ago a situation like this in a mall parking lot escalated into a double homicide.

GANNY wrote: Why not just offer to buy the kerosene for him? I considered that but in reality how many of us are in a position to pay for a large amount of kerosene for someone else? I use propane for my heat so I'm not sure how much kerosene cost. It cost me over $300 for 100 pounds of propane,(which doesn't last long). I use space heaters when it's between 50 and 30 degrees and only use the propane when it drops below 25.

You want to do the right thing and help, but you dont want to be made a fool of at the same time.
