May God Bless the families of the lost workers and the co-workers that assisted. The first response trained workers and medical professionals are also to be thanked for their efforts.
Sure, Bowen Engineering should be questioned about any deviation from any safety steps or procedures. The City of Lenoir City is ultimately responsible for work performance contracted on behalf of the citizens of Lenoir City and that all applicable laws are adhered to and enforced. All citizens have the right to transparent information in regard to all published work orders/contract numbers/Scope of work and all contract negotiation. This should be available publicly in a summary as soon as possible. |

As a General Contractor safety comes first. If the proper safety mesures are not in place then the contractor would be a fault. I agree with ratepayer that LCUB is ultimatley responsible and should have had safety oversite. I wonder if LCUB has a dedicated safety person.

1 I think that it is high time that our City Council should order an internal self assesment audit of LCUB. This should definitely include a review of overlapping job duties and identify any areas that are lacking support. Maybe they could shift some people around, use training opportunities, and eliminate wasteful spending. We need a full review/public report and so does the family. |

1 I have heard that L.C.U.B is overstaffed with family members and that they are operating in the red,i was just wandering how true that is? It also seems strange that the MAYORS FATHER IN LAW is the general manager,i just get sick of seeing all of these L.C.U.B trucks driving around with no direction or purpose, someone has to show for accountability, the board cant because they are the ones who are kin to or that they put in place to work there.Another gripe is the baseball complex, its pitiful, wheres the tax money that goes into it and sign up fees going??? has anyone noticed the lack of road repairs around the city??? |

It's too bad that the LCUB council and the Lenoir City Council are pretty much the same bunch of people. It's no secret that almost everyone at LCUB is related to someone else in the company. It's no secret that LCUB employee's drive company vehicles on personal errands. It's no secret that it takes 3 people to do what 1 person can do.(IE reading meters takes 1 for gas, 1 for water, and 1 for electricity which of course means 3 different vehicles). It's no secret that LCUB rates are higher than surrounding areas. It's no secret that some LCUB employee's while on the clock will do other side jobs unrelated to utility work. It's no secret that a custodian can make $22 an hour working there. It's no secret that when it's LCUB's responsibility, that they want to make the customer pay for it. When most places are laying off, LCUB can still hire new family members, so they can sit in lounge chairs at their facility and earn a nice paycheck.
They are in the position to charge us high rates, wastefully spending our money overpaying family members to do nothing, wasting gas driving vehicles home even when their jobs have no requirement for a full-size pickup. They can't waste valuable salary money and bonuses on things like road-work, sports facilities, fixing things properly instead of just patching it, and all the other things other utility company's do. After all it's not like we can stop using them and switch to their competitors. And they know they've got a monopoly and can do what they want. |

I cannot say a whole lot but there was a safety person assigned. However he was NOT there at the time of the pour.

Where I work. The Safety people are held responsible. Someone at LCUB should get fired.

Wonder who the concrete company was? Could they be at fault in anyway?

1 You won't see that happening that's for sure. The city lawyer will just settle out of court for a couple of million and increase the electrical, gas, water, and sewer rates and all will be taken care of just like that. |
