Enough of the nastiness. Do folks in Lenoir City want to change things or do they want to bitch and moan? I suggested Buddy Hines run for mayor. If you agree start beating the drum, if you don't pick a candidate you like and start the drum beating yourself. One thing's fer sure, if there isn't a decent candidate, the other couple of numbskulls on the ballot will split the vote and the incumbant(matt the brat) will walk away with it.

I do agree Jake. Somebody that the people can trust has to step up and be the leader in this town. Even if we have to write Hines in, I think we need to campaign to do so.

OK, First, I had Matt Brookshire as a sixth grade teacher. I do definately know that he cannot keep control of about 25 kids, so he definately cannot control a city. I also think he has done a pretty lousy job of helping our city. Oh, And "Let the truth be known".. WWJD????? Definately not what Matt has done of our city.

Hey Neighbor, you know the same guy that I do. I have sat back and watched him make a real mess of the city that I love and I am mad about it. He appoints people to do the work that know nothing about the very important jobs with the city. He supports his childhood friend to advise him, Mr. Shannon Littleton, and be second in command at the utilities. Freddy, his father-in-law is pretty bad but Shannon would be a disaster if he gets to manage LCUB. Then he appoints a woman in Mrs. Cook's place to take care of that office, and people are complaining about what is going on down there. Then he goes against the charter, and lets his other advisor, Terry Vann, who doesn't pay his own tax and trys to jilt money from the fines and cost at the city, and puts him over another joke at city hall to run the city court. City Hall is a mess! He has been the backbone of borrowing all kinds of money for his toys and he has Lenoir City and LCUB in one big debted cluster. No, Neighbor, he has done nothing but almost ruined Lenoir City. I hope that we can come out of it, but I don't know. We should elect Wayne Miller and the school board as mayor and council and get rid of the whole bunch.

I really wonder who LET THE TRUTH BE KNOWN is a relative of or how much he's being paid to do all that praising. He's probably not even a registered City voter.

If the best reason the Matt-agandists can give to vote for Brookshire is chanting: "Joe's-a-felon-Joe's-a-fe lon", that speaks for itself. Yes, Joe's record has been expunged. No, Mr.Divelbiss, Joe Sim's felony conviction has NOT been expunged. Those public records are still on file in the Federal Courthouse. As are the court records where he admitted to taking payoffs while sheriff, but only admitted to those because the statute of limitations had run. You stated to the other lady that she need to give up her anonimity to prove her information was factual about Joe Sims selling drugs. That's between you & her. I'll give you & everyone else facts about Joe Sims & happily identify myself. My name is Cissy Chapman. My late husband was Jake Chapman who served Lenoir City as police officer and as police chief twice. He died June 18, 1996 as a result of stroke & massive heart attack at age 46, in Ft. Sanders Regional Hospital. He had the stroke on Sunday, Father's Day, and died the following Tuesday. His doctors told me he died as a result of the overwhelming amount of stress placed on him by Lenoir City & it's politics. Joe Sims had a personal vendetta against Jake-he thought Jake went to the TBI & FBI about Joe's illegal activities. I know for a fact Jake DID NOT! After an investigation had begun, those agencies came to Jake for an interview . Joe, as councilman, gathered his fellow council-cronies-Buddy Hines, Don Pace & Volena Maples. They made promises to each other as to who they wanted to replace those they were about to fire, how & when to vote & the pressure began. They decided to fire Jake as police chief, David Denton as fire chief & John R. Johnson as street dept. supervisor. All for personal vendettas & control & to show the public they could do as they please. I witnessed both Don Pace & Hines telling Jake that he had nothing to worry about, he was doing a great job with the department, this will all blow over. That's hard for me to forget-Jake was a very good man, my best friend & father to my daughter. My family went through hell, Lenoir City politics has cost me my life with Jake, too. And now Joe Sims has the unmitigated gall to ask for a council seat again! I'll never forget what he, Don Pace & Buddy Hines have cost me & I hope the remaining voters remember, too, what all it cost the city. How could anyone vote a convicted felon who also admitted to malfesance of office as sheriff? God says I am to forgive & forget. I believe He will understand when I explain my answer-I cannot forgive or forget. The other families lost also, time, monies, reputations tainted-all for nothing except "because I can politics". John R. Johnson lost his job ,too, when he should not have. Volena was after him, because he embarassed her over a street dept. truck she had brought to her home for personal use without his knowledge. David Denton did keep his position, though. Still no one deserves this treatment. Tennesse is a work "at will" state- but what ever happened to doing what's right, treating people fairly?? I wouldn't expect anything to change for the better if Joe Sims, Don Pace & Buddy Hines are all together again in power in this city.. Heaven help us!!! If anyone has questions or doubts about anything I've written, contact me. I've told nothing but the truth.

Cissy: I'm sorry you went through all those bad experiences. Things are going to get better. I don't know how long it will take - probably a while, but whether or not it is immediately clear, they are getting better. The internet has changed everything. Whether anyone believes your touching story or not, they at least have heard it now. That wasn't the case 3 years ago - or even a year ago. This venue is driving a robust discussion about local politics which will lead inevitably to a people-powered politics that cannot fail to be better. Still, it is in its infancy and will take time. It might not help any this election cycle. You may have to bear another term of the hubris and arrogance of the Brookshire administration and its unhealthy incestuous connections to LCUB. We'll all have to endure another term of a bad county school board member (we didn't get all of them). It is working though and it will only get stronger. Ubiquitous low-cost broadband connections will fundamentally change the next Lenoir City elections if the people will keep talking and sharing information - even if it doesn't help in this one.

Mrs. Chapman, that story sounds exactly what happened to a very good friend of mine. My name is Tim Davis and I live in Knoxville, Tennessee. My friend worked at city hall and was hounded until she became very ill and also had a heart attack. Looks like history repeats itself. She survived the brutality, retired, and probably it saved her life. I do know what Lenoir City politics can do to good and honest people. I wittnessed it myself. I am so sorry about your husband and those who did this to him should be in prison and not running for office. It was the same thing as murder. Just like the crooked judge, mayor, city attorney, the appointed bimbos who hold my friend's job now could have caused her life to end. She had a heart attack and could have experienced a stroke if she had continued to work there. They knew she wasn't healthy and continued to stay after her with lies and harrassment. They met together and planned how they would torture her until she had no other resource but to leave a job that she had worked at for many years. There were some councilmen and the city manager involved also. I have visited Van Shaver's site and seen the tape of the meeting where the judge stood there and out and out lied about her. Tony Aikens sit there and led the judge on like he was telling the truth. The mayor did not say one thing in her defense. You could tell that act had been written and planned. So I know first hand what you went through and no one should have to do that. I hope that the future of Lenoir City politics will bring good people to serve as their council and mayor. It has been going down hill there for a long time. Those crooks are out for blood and it hasn't changed a whole lot since your husband served there. I am truly sorry.

You described your mayor to a "T" when you said ruthless, cruel "citizens". If planting flowers and picking up the trash is the only thing he has going for him, then we need to put him on the back of a garbage truck and get somebody with a little more sense in as our mayor. A mayor can still go by the ordinances of the town and have this done and keep everything else going without being cruel and mean to everybody that doesn't have money and a college education. He thinks people are trash under his feet if they do not fit his description of a citizen that needs to be recognized. There are very good people in this town that don't have millions in their back pocket and a degree that I would trust to do any job down at city hall. He needs to come down off of his throne and go back to where he came from and let somebody else pull us out of the mess he helped create in this town.
