A man was killed in a Hawthorne shooting, authorities said.

The shooting occurred at 12:34 a.m. in the 12800 block of Prairie Avenue, near West El Segundo Boulevard, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Denise Fuchs.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.

Several witnesses at a Union 76 gas station were interviewed, according to a camera crew at the scene.

Los Angeles sheriff's homicide detectives were sent to the scene at 4:50 a.m. to alssist the Hawthorne Police Department in the investigation, Fuchs said. Read more

I'm sorry, some of us actually have to work a swing shift and come home to our families at that time of night.

Hey Working Man, this victim was not walking the streets because he's WORKING. Actually word on the street is prior to his murder, he beat a woman with a crowbar, and her boyfriend found him walking on the street, and shot him.

Hey Mr. or Ms. "a life long south bay resident" I didn't know you were the PULSE of Hawthorne. I guess the Cops should call you for all the info on this murder. Also, some of us actually have a life and don't have to go to sleep at 7:00pm.

I lived in Hawthorne all my life, perhaps longer than you, Pup. I happen to know firsthand knowledge of what happened, from reliable sources. As for going to bed at 7PM, I actually have a job to go to. A government job. Which is probably more than what you have. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Pup.

Those who claim they know what happened ... don't know. Your so called 'reliable sources' are wrong. So unless you assisting with the investigation ... you know nothing. By the way, I was unaware that anyone outside past 7pm was considered criminal. The MAN you are trying to refer to was a REAL MAN, family man, with a wife and children that he loved and supported (in case anybody had something to say about that). He was loved by everyone he came into contact with. Tony we will miss you more than you can ever imagine. ****If you didn't know Tony ... don't post your negative comments.

Then tell me why TONY was walking the streets at 12:30am, instead of being HOME with the family he loves? Listen, I've lived in Hawthore all my life, and have seen the degradation of my beloved community. Your dearly departed TONY is most likely a hoodlum, up to no good to be walking the streets that late. If my husband was walking the streets, I'd be on his ass. But my loving husband works for a living. What does TONY do- or did for a living?

Yes, I have reliable sources, so you know squat.

What's an innocent black man doing walking the streets at 12:30am, yet he has a loving family at home? Did Tony have a woman on the side - is that why he was out late? Did Tony work long hours, and yet cannot afford a car so he didn't have to walk the rough streets of Hawthorne? Did Tony sell drugs? Most drug dealers work under the cover of night.

hey bubbles 9 out of ten times your white, and think bad about every black male out on the streets at 12am is up to no good, our you think negative about black men, what ever the man was doing out in the streets wasnt a reason to lose his life over.you should get your facts straight about what happned, and hopefully you wont get called for jury duty when the young lady that was involved is tried for murder.hopefully your not a cop, working for the goverment and all.and if you are us black men have to be very careful about being out at night.your facts seem to be motivated from the fear of a black men, glad he wasnt white getting killed in san juan ,you would probably think oj was lurking around somewhere.

Rough streets of Hawthorne? You make Hawthorne to be a battle zone.I lived in Hawthorne since the late 70's. I'm sorry you have bad feelings toward the city of Hawthorne but not everyone has the economic oppotunity to move to a higher income city if they choose. Even if you do, crime is everywhere you go from the dirt poor cities to the high goverment officials. You can't get away from it, you try and make your world the best you can. No one deserves to die like animal, we don't know what he was doing at that time of night and by the way Hawthorne Cops are running that intersection at all times at night, it was just a bad situation. By the way I am employed for the Aerospace Industry and work the late shift and I do walk the "streets" at times to get something to eat.

Boy eddyboy, you're a smart one. Yep I'm white and I know the streets of Hawthorne like the back of my white hand! Your beloved Tony was a hoodlum and yes I have my facts straight. Hell, you don't even have a valid explanation as to why Tony was out at 12:30am, when he should be home with his family.

Hey NTO, I work during the day, and don't walk the streets at 12:30am even where I live because I have to get up at 5:00am and commute. I'm glad you work for Aerospace, and I don't believe you walk the streets if you drive a car. You're not like Tony, who has a "family" at home, as another poster put it so eloquently. He was up to no good, believe me. You have an honest aerospace job, he was probably out either selling or buying drugs, or getting laid.

Precious, I've lived in Hawthorne since '62. This town is no longer the town I once knew, it's been overrun by thugs, hoodlums, murderers and God knows what else. Anyone who walks the streets late or early in the morning is asking for trouble. Where there is smoke there is fire.

its sensless to try to explain something to a person like yourself bubbles, and i see you have all the correct answers to why this man was out in the streets this time of the night, but explain to me this how is it that a person living in todays america have more sympathy for a dog than this man who lost his life, hopefully you dont have any kids and if so you wont teach them to be so bias towards a blk man walking the streets at night.where there is smoke there is fire of course but tell me is it still worth a man losing his life.our maybe every blk man walking the street at night for what ever reason,it would be ok for him to be killed.last time i checked walking the streets that late at night wasnt a crime,oh im sorry i forgot he was blk and thats what makes it a crime.

Then why do you try to explain something to me, when I'm right about it? What amazes me, is that no one can say WHY he was on the streets at 12:30am. Most decent folks are in bed, because they have job to go to in the morning. There are 2 sides to the story, isn't there?

Tony was a good man- a good father and husband, and the fact that his life was taken for whatever reason is messed up.The killer or killers need to suffer like his family and friends are suffering right now, he left behind beautiful kids and the most loyal and dedicated wife anyone could have and you will be missed. REST IN PEACE TONY. BUBBLES- hopefully this never happens to you or anyone you know,i would never wish this on an enemy- no one deserves to die like a dog on the streets.
