Let me start by saying I am not a Leitchfield resident nor do I live in the great state of Kentucky, but I do frequently visit the area and it brings me great grief to see you are allowing a meat processing plant to the area. I lived in Colorado for several years. Thirtysome odd miles west of a town called Greeley all I can say is thank God the wind blows from the west cause the smell of the town of Greeley is unbearable not to mention the other variables associated to a meat processing facility. I am a Millwright by trade and I work in these facilities from time to time so I know first hand what some of these variables are. As I said before it saddens me to see you are allowing this type of facility to move in and destroy your community and small town values that us that don't even live there have grown to love and enjoy and for what a few hundred jobs which will most likely not even be local residents.

I think what you posted is the wrong thing to say to a community that has been begging for work. Those smells may turn your stomach but in this town it will be a great welcome. Any jobs that come to Grayson County would be a big welcome. The things that may turn you belly will sure feed a lot of bellys in Grayson Co. So you just stay where your at and let the ones that don't mind a hard days work and a little smell have a good job, the people here deserve it...

These jobs will fill the bellies of the migrating immigrant workforce that will fill the majority of these positions. You are right in one aspect, bellies will be empty as they will not be able to keep from vomiting from the nauseous odors. Uninformed minds will bring demise to this community...

To Just wanted you to know: Thank you for your caring and concern for this town. You, like myself want nothing but the best for it. I just ask that you educate yourself on the negative aspects that come with this type of plant.

Thank you old-skool for your input. It's funny how you have a couple of clueless marks left by some, and yet you have lived near and worked in these type of plants. If anyone is clueless it's certainly not you. Thanks again...

I've read everything you said and I will just say that your priorities are not mine and if you can't understand that then there is no reason to try and explain it further.

To So What: I am open minded, and never would place a closed ear to anyone. Your opinion and priorities are as valuable as mine and anyone else on here. The thing I see in your statement that rings true, is that you state "my priorities are not yours". That is what the local government is trying to do to many, many of it's citizens that do not want to see this plant come in to the community. They are trying to tell us and make us accept something they want, but what I believe in talking to people in this community, the majority do not want to come in..

I'm curious as to how you would want it to happen.
A plant is coming into town...should it be voted on by the entire city? county?...by the time this town votes on it, it is taken away from us by another county...thus we all losing out on jobs again. Set me up an example or how you would expect it to happen.

In a democracy, the majority rules. The mayor was re-elected with less then 1,200 votes. Each council member elected had less then 1,000 votes. This town has approximately 7,000 citizens, the county approximately 26,000. The number of voting people that placed in office the elected representatives is a small percentage of the populous. Yet, these elected officials are determining our futures and way of life for each of us. I do believe voting for it is the right choice. Answer me something, Question. In the last 20+ years over 10 plants/factories have been lost in this community. What efforts were made to keep them. More jobs were lost here than what the meat plant is proposing. Something clearly has not been done correctly, to keep the ones that were here for years...

Also to Question. Look into how many communities and towns turn these packaging plants down. The percentage against is far greater then those that are for them. Yet our town officials here are willing to jeopardize our health, our quality and way of life, and our environment for a few hundred jobs that on a large percentage will be filled by the national standard of a migrating immigrant workforce..

To: Concerned-Inform ed,

1st of all, I respect your input. You seem educated well enough to make valid arguments. My question to you is, what are you doing in an attempt to halt the factory from moving here? Are you stressing your concerns to those that are fortunate enough to have a real voice, or are you merely voicing your rebuttals on Topix?

To east1999: Thank you. I do not do facebook, or twitter, and have never posted anything on here prior to my fight to educate on the negatives associated with these plants. The city council meeting that will be on Tuesday the 17th, will certainly hear my facts, and also be presented with the factual documentations. I thought using this avenue was a start, prior to being heard next week. I have also been in contact with a few law firms, and activist parties. Many communites across this nation have rallied together to fight for what is right, and to keep these plants from ruining their communities. One voice is small, but when many come together, it can be heard clearly...

Im looking foward to jobs in GC as long as GC citizens are hired and not Surrounding counties. If the factory is going to be here then hire the locals not someone 75 miles away

it seems that concerned is not concerned about the county. Educate myself on the negative? Educate yourself on being broke and not havein a job becasue there are not many out there to have. Your a damn fool... thats just my thoughts

Just want you to know...I have been jobless and broke and I know how that is. To get out of that situation I worked three jobs at one point. I have made this area my chosen home, and I love this town and county, and am clearly showing that I am willing to fight for it. I respect your thoughts and thought of me.

I was jobless for sometime which in turn lead me to use my savings up, to sell my nice vehicle and buy a run down high mileaged p.o.s. and also leading me to be broke. I could not find work in my trained field which was a high paying position. I had to face the facts that I could not find another high paying position. So, I had to do what I had to do and take a low paying full time position and help supplement my income with two part time jobs. Does that make sense, to you huh?

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Aries

It won't be long before you start to feel bored today, unless you can distract yourself - you're switching from one activity to another. Ideally, you should keep yourself amused by doing something that's unusual or challenging, otherwise you'll be tempted to stir up trouble just to see what happens next! Even though you know that's a bad idea, you won't be able to resist, unless you've got something better to do with your time.
