Not wanting to attract anyone wanting to gossip or bash someone.. But how many of you can remember the older days in Grayson County? Arnett's on the square, The old theatre, Old Houchens (where Save a Lot is now); and when they built now-old places, such as Southgate Mall... Back when the mall seemed so nice and new, and we had places like Hobb's to shop.. And the old grocery stores, like Foodland,(where Houchens is)? Or the old Bestway store in Clarkson.. One of the county's finest places; it was the last of its kind and I was sad to see it closed... Seems like so much has changed in the last few decades, Leitchfield has changed so much.. Just like to hear what some of you have to say about some of these, or other places? Or memories you have of them..

Yes, alaot has changed. I loved the crusing, but was carying out groceries at foodland watching everyone cruse most of the time, lol. I remember the worst thing we could get into then was going to the local bootlegger and getting fallcity beer, and going to Allens alke and watch a fight, lol. So much has changed but I guess thats the signs of the times.

I remember Jones' Ready to Wear where David Vickery is now located, a variety store on the north-west side of the square, H&H Music store that blew up on north Main, Ben Franklin on west Main, when Montgomery Drugs was on the south-west corner of the square, L.D.'s Men's shop in Indian Hills, Maloney's and later S-Mart, Houchens when they were located where Mamaw & Papaw's Attic is now, Peoples' Store, Haycraft's Feed Mill where the fire department is now.....man, I'm old. Let's hear some more.

How about the food at The Southland Manor. O'Rileys where Mcdonald's is now. The Chic-n-Dari where Papa Johns now sits. And how could anyone forget The Dairy Castle. Hobbs, Dunn's Hardware, McCubbins Western Auto (the one on the square), Skaggs Son & Daughter store, LILLY'S BAKERY had donuts and white castle style burgers, the donuts were made fresh every morning and were fabulous.
How about The Louisville Store, Oasis Rest.(best food in town ever), Burger Queen, Sonic (the one by Centre on Main), Glasscock Ford, Get and Go food mart, Peoples Hardware, Vincent's Store for Men, Pizza Chef.
I'm sure there are more but I didn't realize how much Leitchfield has changed. I think I'm going to cry :(

Long ago there was Moorman's Drug Store on the southwest corner of the square (it later became Sisk Drugs) where Mrs. Maude Kinser made the best tuna fish sandwiches in town. Also once upon a time, there was the Horace McClure jewelry repair shop on the square. It was very disorganized but somehow Horace managed to find most of the items he had worked on.

What About when McDonalds was "Cougar Den", Or the Tasty Freeze that the Embry's ran as you go out of town towards the high school, and lets not forget the ole' skating rink where the Parent Child Center is now. I can even remember when the middle school was just a gym and one hallway that lead from the gym to the lunch room. What memories...

All the streets have changed everywhere, also. Thinking of how landmarks used to be reminds me of the roads around them.

Years ago there use to be a game room across from Indian Hills shopping center in the yellow looking building... I can remember going in there and playing Pac Man and Mrs Pac Man... They also had pool tables and other "ARCADE" games.

Southgate mall used to be the place to be.. Everyone would show up.. Things sure have changed, now hardly anything happens at the mall, especially anything to do with cruising, and the only store that really does much business in Houchens.

Alot of us miss the old sonic, and the old stores like the Louisville Store, and Arnett's (where the county government now occuipies). Seems like nothings the same in leitchfield anymore..

What memories I get from reading this. I remember a big weekend date consisted of starting at whats now Home Plate, circling the square, turning at what's now McDonalds and going back to Home Plate to start over. The big make out spot was Allen's drive-in. But boy was it fun.
