How much would anyone like to bet that the driver of the SUV was yakking it up on a cell phone and not paying attention?

Accidents like this is the reason why I will never own a "donor cycle". You could be the best rider in the world, but some JA could snuff you out because he/she is not paying attention.

They were not wearing helmets and the person that hit them probably was on the phone. I wouldn't ride a bike or ride on a bike in OH.

There is no mention of the SUV driver using a cell phone. Why are you inserting conjecture and adding a gossip element to a horrible story? Stick to the known facts.

Good call History Lesson. Should probably wait until the full story comes out before making assumptions and/or accusations. That's why they call them "accidents". I am sure a lot of people have all had close calls before and just be thankful it wasn't you that caused an accident like this.

I was there and held the injured woman and consoled her. I wonder why it took so long for EMS to arrive. It was impossible to keep her still. The man in the SUV was very upset. I heard someone at the scene say the harley was doing almost 80 and gunned it to miss the red light. I pray they are both well.

I work in the insurance business and know that motorcycle accidents are more dangerous than car accidents. If you get hit in a car you are (mostly) protected by the steel frame of the car. When hit on a bike you fly off the bike until you hit the ground. I would never want anyone I know to even get on a bike just becuase of what I've seen and now with gas prices so high more and more people are taking to the streets on motorcycles and scooters. I don't see gas prices coming down anytime soon so the amount of motorcycle/scooter accidents is going no where but up. My best to everyone involved.

I don't think either of them wore helmets, by the injuries I saw.

Gee, realwee, a motorcycle is more dangerous than a car, who woulda thunk it.

The article said the motorcycle was stopped at the light. How would they be doing 80?

Sounds to me like another SUV driver with his head up his ace.

The last sentence in the story states that they were not wearing helmets, which is permissible in the State of Ohio as we have no laws stating that helmets are necessary when riding a motorcycle.

I don't care if they "gunned it at 80 to miss the red light", that is purely gossip relating to why someone hit them from behind. In my opinion and the way that statement is phrased, if they were going almost 80 and gunned it to miss a red light, wouldn't they have hit someone in the rear end instead of being rear-ended themselves?

Either way, this story makes a good point that we all need to pay more attention while driving this summer (and all year round) as there are more 2-wheelers out there for everyone to be aware of.

*But the article states that the motorcycle was stopped at a red light and the SUV rear-ended them.

Most people who ride motorcycles think that if they are good drivers that is all that matters and that makes the motorcycle safe. In actuality you are only as good at driving as the person driving towards you in the other lane is. No reason to be a smart a$$. Just trying to state my opinion.

I personally haven't seen a motorcycle rider that wasn't doing one or more of the following: speeding, riding left of center(usually see this when there is two side by side), zigzagging down their lane, weaving too fast in and out of traffic, riding down the birm trying to pass and usually too fast, had passengers twice their weight on the back(i've heard the weight difference will cause driver to lose control easy due to resistance but i don't know),trying to talk to their passenger turning their head not paying attention, and passenger grabbing on the back of seat(i've also heard this will cause passenger to easily lose their balance and fall but i don't know). I also think that bikers that don't wear helmets don't have much sense either.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Virgo

This is not a day for sitting still if you can possibly avoid it because it will be a fast track to bad temper and sharp-tongued outbursts. Have plenty of short breaks, go for lots of walks or work up a sweat in the gym in your lunch-hour. If you're driving, keep an eye on the speedometer because it will be very tempting to go too fast and you'll be furious if you're caught.
