RON,
I have sattelite high speed inter-net so I am not post through a local server. My Inter-net company sends the sigal through what ever server that the sattelite chooses for any number of reasons. How about that something you didn't know about living out here in the country and to everyone from VP.........DOWN WITH SUDDENLINK! LoL |

[DOWN WITH SUDDENLINK!]
Sounds good to me. The only reason I still have it is because satellite doesn't have the speed required for my VOIP phone to work. It needs a minimum of 128 kbps and satellite provides about 58 kbps. DSL is out of the question as I don't have an existing phone line and the price to get one put in is way too high. |

obviously ron doesn't keep up with our conversations we already covered why our town keeps changing. Its ok ron us bottom feeders who are uneducated can keep up. whats the matter technology to fast for you?
Just to put in something nice for New Llano. I loved coming home from work the other day and seeing all the flags down 171 for Veterans day. Makes me glad to call Vernon Parish Home were we can still be proud of who we are were we came from and what we do. Did you know Ron there is actually some places in the United States where you can not put up the American Flag because it might offend someone? How sad is that? But of course that is for sure the same place that they don't allow deep fat fryers. Proud American, Proud to be calling Vernon Parish Home. |

Did you know Ron there is actually some places in the United States where you can not put up the American Flag because it might offend someone?
Yeah I did did YOU know there are some places in America where you can get married if an inter- racial couple without being told no by a rascist judge ?? Did you know there are some places in America where you can actually buy a beer on Sunday and not be looked at like some godless heathen, hell they might even let you drink it. Why there are even places, I have been told at least were you can serve your country and NOT BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF in every way under the sun by the citizens of the town you happen to be stationed in. That they have an NFL team that can actually win a Super Bowl. Hell I have even been told that in some places, after a natural or even a man made disaster, their citizens are able to BUILD back what they lost without bitching and whining every 10 minutes that the federal government isn't helping them (in some of those places there is not even a FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO HELP THEM). In other places, the citizens are able to (being an intelligent, motivated and ingenious lot) live without being "wards" of the government relying on themselves to produce instead of the government to provide for them. I have even been told, no I am not making this up that in some places it is even ok for a girl to wait until she is around 22 and has a college education before even thinking of becoming pregnant. Hell I was told the father of her child doesn't even have to be her closest blood kin. That in some places even in America a one bedroom apartment can be had for $450 price range, and not look like section 8 housing. That you can actually turn on a faucet and get water that isn't brown. That they actually DO HAVE another way of cooking besides deep frying and eat fish from the sea not the swamp. That some people actually go to a grocery store and buy meat, not to the swamp to hunt for whatever nutria rat pops it's head up that day. Now I don't know where such places are but REST ASSURED THEY SURE AS HELL AREN'T ANYWHERE IN LOUISIANA. |
||||
|
I've even been told that there exists cities that actually have cultural venues, shopping, an entertainment district (imagine that not just a "Pegasus" club but a whole district of art venues, coffee shops, arcades, movie theaters, restaurants, bars, museums, zoos, etc) that people can go to to enjoy themselves.
Some even have shopping districts that are more than just a Walmart. To top it all off the have actual ROADS one can drive down (paved and everything) to actually get to these venues to enjoy themselves without tearing the hell out of their cars to do so. Where "fashion" doesn't include the "mossy oak multicam" pattern. where it actually is ILLEGAL to shoot and stuff the wildlife. where it is actually a crime to marry anyone remotely related to you (ditto for having intercourse with them, and producing a child) Once again most are OUTSIDE LOUISIANA but they do exist. To bad most of those raised here are too "stuck in their ways" to actually evolve past the Neanderthal way of life and embrace it. |

From the way you state it you sound like one who has actually gone out and looked, but knowing what a bitching, whining crybaby you are you probably believe everything you see in National Inquirer. For you r information my niece is 22 and is very happily married to a man who is not related to ANY member of her family other being her husband. And yes, they don't have any kids and nobody looks down on them for it, and yes they were born in Louisiana, hold good jobs and bring in a combined income that you can only dream of.

About 300 feet from where I do. What does that have to do with anything? You think anybody who lives here can't do well or something just because you have this wonderful prejudicial view of anyone not measuring up to your narrow minded standards? I ran across a bunch of small minded people such as yourself when I was in the military. Always harping on what things should be like but never taking the initiative to change anything. You've shown me that hasn't changed. It's too bad that it's people like that that are running the country.

No I think the MAJORITY of those who live here can't do well or something. Not all. As my dad used to say even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then. There are those who can and do make it in Louisiana, usually an abstraction or "glitch" in the natural process of things a mutation if you will. |

Damn just when i thought my college education meant something ron goes and pops my bubble. And just think owning my own home,(not mortgaged to the hilt) having a job(one job not two just to survive), driving a almost new car and raising my kids to respect other people only has value in the big cities. For someone who bitches alot and knows alot of facts about how Louisiana is or thinks it is. It reminds of a saying. be careful of the loudest complainer they are usually involved or responsible somehow.. or maybe you are just feeling guilty about the way you live your life. Is your wife messing around behind you back? Did you miss that promotion? are you behind on your child support? or maybe you just found out your girlfriend is sleeping with your brother? Maybe you were a fat child and you are having trouble dealing with abuse in your past and your just lashing out. Its ok we can take it remember that song A country Boy Can survive. Thats because we are alot tougher breed. and before you start pointing fingers there has been alot of natural horrible things and manmade things like bombings and shootings and other horrible things on American soil and you know what? we survived. The people who do the best can take care of themselves and their families and the ones they live around. I lived in New York. Great city as long as you don't mind living in the same building with people you don't know their names or can't even talk to. I have lived in a handful of states and I can a say few things about Vernon Parish, no matter where you live if you stood in your yard and yelled for help people would come. Not walk the other way and act like they didn't see anything. If you were hungry your neighbor would bring you food and if your house burnt down people would come out in droves to bring you things that you needed. If you were diagnosed with a horrible disease people would have dinner sales to raise money and if God forbid you needed to have a funeral people would kick in to cover the price.
Yup we sure aint perfect and my daddy might be my grandpa but atleast I know he's got my back. Get Happy, Happy people live longer. |

I remember a PDQ drive in on on the north end of 171. This was when it was a two lane and PDQ was just south of where the train tracks crossed coming out of the old quarters. I think there was a Gibsons department store and a grocery store that might have been calls Jame's Red and White. Another little fast food place was on the west side of town. I think it used to be called Hwy 8. There was a little family owned operation named Holt's Grocery and across the road there was a little drive in called the Burger Bar if I remember correctly. Had the best ice cream when we were kids. |

PDQ is long gone. Red and White grocery building is still there. I think there's a pawn shop in it now. The Gibson building is still but Gibson's is gone. The building now houses a Dollar General, a pharmacy and I'm pretty sure there's a medical diagnostic center there. There was a lot added to area where Gibson's was. There's a Market Basket (formerly Stanley's Super D. There's also a Family Dollar and several other places. Holt's Grocery is long gone but the Burger Bar is still there.

You're welcome. I've been here since late 69 with a side trip to Germany in the mid 70's and army training for Fort Leonardwood in 78-79 before getting stationed back here at Fort Polk. I was in El Paso before late 69 and Germany and Virginia before that. I'm originally from Tyler Texas.

I lived out on 464 about a mile past Caney on Hwy 8. I had an uncle that used to take me out to the rifle ranges at night time when I was about 5 years old. Watching machineguns night firing was more exciting than Christmas back then. I started school at Evans and moved into "the city" during first grade. I think the neighborhood was called Lee Hills. We moved to Houston after I finished elementary school. I ended up going into the Army later on but avoided being sent to Ft. Polk. I had family there so I went back to visit a couple of times but I put down my roots here in Dallas.

Well, the US Army is making them stay and not letting them leave. If they do leave without being on orders it is called being absent without leave(AWOL), that could get them jail time or a bad conduct discharge, or both. |
||||
Well have they ever prosicuted the bunch that stole 11 million dollars from the people of leesville during the 80's.I'd like my 500k back! PLUS INTEREST! |

Hell I'd like to shake their hand sounds like a bunch in the military did to the townsfolk what they do to the military every year. 1 Billion a year and some change that is how much Ft. Polk contributes to the Leesville area yearly (7 million for the schools) and what do they have to show for it, not a damned thing unless you want to count a bunch of stores in rundown portable buildings that go out of business every 6 mo and a crappy falling apart boarded up downtown area |

What's the story with the $11 Mil ?
