Just found this board and find all the different topics interesting. Have been following the recent events concerning the Charter Review and found the Charter Review Committee's meeting in audiocast for all to hear.

You can hear the banter between Mayor Nobles and Committee members. There are 2 audiocasts to listen to in order to get the full scope of conversations.

To listen to the audiocasts - go to cityofliveoak.org and click on Auto of Meetings then select from there what you wish to listen to.

Now I am off to read more interesting topics!!

If I were a LiveOakian,as you say you are, then I would be attending every city and county meeting I could attend !! Other wise you will be in the DARK and things will be decided without YOU !
I do live in Live Oak and have for the past 50 years.... moved here when I was 8. Am a firm believer there are more than one side to any story. I believe the citizens of Live Oak will manage to continue to grow a nice little town after all every city/town has governmental disagreements.

After taking the time to read most of the posts on other topics for the past few weeks see there is a lot of venom on these boards. Maybe I just accidentally stepped in another pit. Just thought anyone reading the posts would like to hear the actual meeting audio to decide for themselves who is right.

I like living here and have no plans to leave as I own property and a business. How about yourself? Do you attend the meetings or do you live in the dark (as you say) and let things be decided for you? Maybe you don't even live here......

Sounds like you need to practice what Joyce Meyer and the Bible are teaching.

Thanks for the link. I listened to part of it and will try to listen to all of it at a later time. I didn't see anything wrong with what they did just what I listened to.

As usual, the village idiot has the facts all wrong. Go to the meeting Tuesday, Feb. 14th, and hear the TRUTH. No one is " going after" the mayor personally. Someone is very paranoid.

Adam Prins After I first got elected, I thought a charter review was in order as it had not been done in over 10 years and did not pass at that time so nothing changed. The Charter is like Live Oak's Constitution. It establishes what type of govt we have here and lays out the foundation on which the day-to-day operations of the City are managed. I proposed the idea to the Council and it passed 5-0. We each selected a volunteer from the community to participate in reviewing the Charter. They had to be either a City resident or a commercial business owner in the City. I thought this was important because our businesses are taxed but cannot vote in our elections unless they live in the City. This gave them a small voice in determining something relevant in the City. Each Council member selected one member. The Committee formed and met many times for well over a year reviewing the Charter. Monday night, a week ago, they finished their review and agreed unanimously about what recommended changes to the charter they would present to the City Council this coming Tuesday night. The Mayor claims this is a political vendetta against him. For this theory to be true, it would have to mean that every Council member conspired to select a person for the committee that had it out for Sonny Nobles. The idea is simply ludicrous! It's quite a conspiracy theory and makes for good newspaper material but other than that is nothing of substance. He is simply trying to turn people off to change before they get to vote. It is a brilliant political move by a very savvy politician with almost forty years in the game. These changes will be good for the effective and efficient operation of the City of Live Oak moving forward and I encourage all City residents to come to the meeting Tuesday night to become educated about what the recommendations will be on your Spring ballot.

IF YOU LIVE IN THE CITY THIS WILL BE ON THE BALLOT MAY 8 SO IF YOUR REGISTERED TO VOTE THEN VOTE YES. You elected your counsel so trust their judgement on this. Nobles is like odumber whine, whine, whine and making it all about himself.

Dear Editor,

I do not intend to get into a debate about whether or not the actions of the Mayor at the final Charter Review meeting were appropriate or not. My last letter cited the web address where anyone interested could listen to it and judge for themselves. The Mayor has told the City Council many times how difficult it is to find willing participants to serve on various boards and committees. I submit to you that when the Mayor addresses one of these groups and begins with “I’m gonna piss some of you off tonight on this committee,” then it is easy to understand why.

The Mayor claims that he only speaks the truth and shoots straight with the people of Live Oak and I would never suggest otherwise. What I will suggest is that he sees the truth through a pair of eyes which have been entrenched in the same government for almost 40 years. I submit to you that this qualifies him more as a government insider than a watchdog for the people. There is a conflict at City Hall which constantly creates problems. It consists of an elected City Council that gives the city staff direction with which the elected Mayor disagrees. Currently in the City Charter the Mayor has the ability to suspend any city official, except the City Council. So, one can easily see where this could cause a conflict as the mayor can suspend them if they do not do what he says.

The truth is that there are people like the Mayor at all levels of government who have never been questioned on anything. All of a sudden someone gets elected who does not take everything said at face value and actually researches and checks behind people. Someone who will follow-up and seek meaningful solutions to problems. All of a sudden the power once held by some begins to fade because someone new points out that it is imaginary power created through self-aggrandizement and was never really power at all.

I am working feverishly to rid the City of Live Oak of good ole’ boy politics. This is the year 2012, not 1912. It is time the people came first and not the City. It seems some get elected and forget that without the people, the City would be nothing but a name. I will not forget who I am here to serve! And much like the people of Live Oak will update our City’s Charter, so must they update our City’s leadership to prevent bad politics. Your quality of life depends on it!

Adam Prins

Live Oak — Dear Editor,

I want to put my two cents in about the way the Mayor treated the Charter Review Committee. The City Council voted unanimously to review our charter. We appointed peoples from the community to be on the committee. Those peoples volunteered their time to better our community and I think we ought to support their decision. The Mayor ain’t have no business talking down to the committee or telling them they were an embarrassment. The way he talked to them is what’s embarrassing.

I think the committee did a super job and should be commended. I hope the Mayor will apologize to the peoples who served on the Charter Review Committee and recognize that they did what they were appointed to do by the Council. If the Mayor don’t like that, then so be it. The Mayor thinks the whole world is out to get him. This just ain’t true. All he is trying to do is poison the water with the voters before the committee recommendations even make it to the ballot. It’s a shame!

Don’t be fooled Live Oak,

Bennie L. Thomas, Councilman, Dist. 2
