Effort to save water tower under way

Save the water tower!

It would be great to save it, lots of fond memories .

Flatonia was my hometown from 1974-1996.
Yes,I hate to see it tore down and sold for scrap!!!
I mean,ten years ago,after the Southern Pacific-Union Pacific Merger,a group of citizens bought the historic Tower and moved it into downtown.
Since then,they moved the SA&AP Depot;obtained a caboose as well as building a viewing platform at the junction;so surely they can preserve the Water Towerr!!
Twelve miles up the road in Waelder,they preserved their Water Tower and painted it into their School Colors of Blue and White;thereby making it into the "World's Largest Smurf"!!!
But if it is destined to be torn down,might I make this suggestion:Prior to the start of the scrapping process,play the theme from the John Wayne Classic"The High and The Mighty",then have
someone paint"Deo Vindice*"on the top;then after it's all said and done;place a Plaque stating"The Tin Man.1932-2007.Served The Town Well.Destroyed To Beureaucratic Indefference and The almighty Dollar.So Long,You Old Ancient Pelican!!!".

Dear Ann,I agree with you 100%!!
Being the Great Great Grandson of Two Good Ol'Rebels,it's a little tempting to come back to
my ol'hometown and get a "Band of Brothers"together
and capture the Water Tower and secede from the City!!!

Hello John, good to know that you are still around & passionly writing still.
We were classmates back in Flatonia & hung out in Flatonia as kids.

We won the fight to save the tower and in the fight Flatonia Landmark Preservation Society was born. We are helping to rebuild and make people aware of the riches of Flatonia's history. We are always glad to hear that those outside of our community are with us as well.
