Potheads send logic up in smoke

Full story: Vallejo Times-Herald

I am not about to accuse anyone I know of being a pothead, but let's say the species is not altogether unknown to me.

As a philosophy major who studied logic, it is apparent the author of this article, Mr. Donahoo, does not know how to construct a logical arguement. It would be just as valid for him to say "everyone who drinks alcohol is an alcoholic who acts emotional and territorial when they wet themselves, right before they get into a car and kill innocent people while driving."
And the authors point is?

MalcomeDonahoo,

You're so narrow minded, and off base it's pathetic. Im a so called "Pot Head," I've been not only a defender for my country, and am now a 100% Disabled Veteran, but also an educator and educational administrator for the state. I graduated "BAYLOR" Univeersity, all while being a so called POT HEAD, and graduated with honors, Phi Beta Kappa, before going on to my Post Grad studies. What you consider a joke, and a demeaning one at best, is something I believe is a part of my life and has saved me from years of agony at the hands of VA Dr.s'. After over 4 years of Methadone treatment for cronic pain, due to an injury in Vietnam, I decided I wanted the quality of my life back, and told them to take me off of that drug that can kill, or put a person in a coma faster than any other drug on the market. I was told by my government Dr.s' that I needed to move to a state where I could gain medical marijuana access. I told them I was not moving, I'm trying to change the antiquated laws of the state my family helped to build.

Before you go around demeaning people that served your country, that make sure you have a 1st Amendment, and can write the diatribe you desire, remember the people that gave their lives to insure you have a job that you love.. "WE THE POT HEADS," as you put it. are actually "WE THE PEOPLE". Your lack of cmpassion is appalling. I take offense to you and your column. My favorite actors are Jack Nickelson and Robert DeNero, I've always known that Cheech and Chong were a comedy act and I don't own any Grateful Dead or Bob Marley Music, although I have listened to them.

You should stop trying to put people down and look at the positive aspects, and positive contributions of the people you critisize. Your ignorance on the subject is overwhelming. You should try doing resherch on a subject before you just start adding words to fill your column, There are too many people out their that take the term "POT HEAD ," as an offense. Of course I guess I'd expect no less from an uninformed journalist.

Keep making you off handed jokes, and hopefully no one in your family will ever have a problem, where they are told that medical marijuana is what they need. I would want to wish health problems, that devistating, on anyone. But, I've learned that sometimes what goes around, comes around. Hopefully your children will not have to die, like mine did from a brain tumor, because the state they live in is as closed minded as you. Keep joking, funny man.

This is the dumbest thing I've read here, and that is saying something. Why doesn't this guy get a job or volunteer or something, he obviously has too much time on his hands. From reading, it sounds like he is a TWEAKER.

"According to The Associated Press, he was in a convenience store -- stocking up on late-night munchies, no doubt -- when he removed his baseball cap and peered inside it, obviously perplexed."

So I guess you are saying that it's a good thing the Associated Press will pay no attention to the hundreds, if not thousands of cases of alcoholics beating their wives. But if there's a gimmicky story like "Man had pot stuck to his forehead", or "Man calls cops to report someone stole his weed," then it is definitely worthy of national news.

I guess it's a good thing though. Ultimately, anecdotes about potheads are amusing, because save for the occasional really-stoned driver, a pothead doesn't really effect others.

Alcoholics on the other hand, are both sad and dangerous, so that's why there's not many "You may be an alcoholic *IF*..." articles.

I'll take annoying potheads over dangerous alcoholics any day of the week.

Smoking pot doesn’t make you a pot head no more than having a beer now and then make you an alcoholic.

The majority of pot smokers are not pot heads…..and the majority of people who drink are not alcoholics. But I’d prefer to be around pot heads…..less dangerous and funnier to mess with!

q - An ignorant reefer mad Vallejo opinion columnist walks into a bar. Bartender says, "Hey, you sure phoned in your column this week. Not enough original thoughts on the serious subject of cannabis prohibition, huh? Looks like you just paraphrased a couple of AP stories and then recycled some old hack Borscht-Belt one-liners and substituted 'pothead' for 'blonde' or 'polack'! How can I get that kind of cushy job?" - The ignorant reefer mad Vallejo opinion columnist replies, "Screw you and give me a double shot of a legal liquid drug that kills tens of thousands annually, kills and maims even more from drunk driving, drunk domestic violence, and drunk assaults, and costs our society hundreds of millions in lost productivity and health costs, you punk critic!" -(OK, it's a lousy joke and the dialogue is stilted. But at least it's 100% original. Even written by a pothead...--"R"R)

Excellent Post! Maybe the "author" of this "article" (using both terms very loosely) needs some education before writing about a subject he knows nothing about. Not only was the article and the jokes in it lame, there was no point. Why am I not surprised?

OK, what about this story, a PA, Mayor was asleep in his home, and the cops bust down the door at 2am, shooting one of two dogs dead, then find the mother in law and hand cuffs her and sits her down in the pool of dog blood as she sees them shoot and kill the second dog right in fron t of her. mayor gets dragged down the steps and put on the floor next to his wife and mother in law all in night gowns and underwear.

6 Hours later destroying the home in search of marijuana from a tip an informant that was himself a dryg offender and was trying to get off by giving up a house. So after nothing was found they figured out this was the mayor and his wife and mother in law they left, door bashed in dogs dead house destroyed. Not even one Sorry for the cops the police declined to comment and all people involved still have their jobs. Needless to say the mayor is take the polcie and city to court.

Now this is one of so many stories out there that have people asleep in their home and they get a 3am door busting in, no call out that its the police and just kill p[ets and destroy homes. But many of these are deadly incounters, police lose their lives from people defending their home from unknown intruders, home owners getting killed for trigger happy police or by having a weapon defending their home. Many have no tie to drugs and are just cought in the battle and some do but still why do we sick an army on a peacful marijuana smoker that isnt hurting anyone?

Now you can bunch all jkinds of stupid marijuana smokers stupid acts. But you can double that amount on stupid Drinkers and they tend to kill people. Prohibitiion has caused nothing buit a us VS them attitude by cops, it has caused even greater violence than it did when alcohol was prohibited and the Mob grew frow that whole mess. Where do you think the cartels got their cash flow to become such a powerful group? Marijauna prohibition is the problem not a few stupid smokers. Drinking kill and tobacco kills more each year than anything, marijauna kills no one. Lies and miss information is one thing but to point out a few stories from a few stupid people well it proves nothing and has no value at all.

Prohibition is a failed policy we leared that in the 30s, yet for 72years we have had laws doing the same failed policy that didnt work the first time. Wake up America, the money spent fighting this, keep ing jials and prisons full of non-violent drug users and the courts and the taxes we could gain and the profit that would stay in this coutry, well needless to say, opur heathcare debate wouldnt matter, the economy would be fine and we would have more clean green jobs to put us all back to work. Thats not even the Hemp issue that is still not allowed in this nation even though its not a drug, we fail to utilize the one plant that could save our gas problems all the way to feeding the world.

Take a few days and read the truth and see the facts, the n tell me a few stupid people that happen to smoke piot should be what we are worried about, really!

The comments are great, the article is sadly probably the thought of 25% of the ignorant population who are popping pills, and chasing it with a drink, then driving to meet their friends, and drinking and popping more pills and drinking, and then driving home like maniacs. The author clearly has some issues with substance abuse. Probably woke up from his binge drinking the night before and saw some kids on TV enjoying their alcohol free lifestyles and is bitter.

It's is unfortunate that people are prejudice in this country to their own demise. If cannabis ( which is the proper terminology for the herb that is smoked not pot, or weed, or marijuana) was so detrimental to our cultures evolution than we would be where we are today. If hemp wasn't used as the foundation of this country we would have this great but confused nation that we have today.

We imprison people daily for this herb and the author thinks that is okay. And it is not. We say we are the land of the free but we decide that based on racial profiling and the connection to cannabis that we should imprison our neighbors, and other responsible adults.

Personally the reason I was initially so intrigued with cannabis was because there was a group of kids at my high school who seemed like they might smoke, because of their eclectic taste in music, and fashion, and various other things. In this group of a handful of characters was the Valedictorian, of the school, the 3rd ranked graduating senior, and the 6th ranked senior of that school. I didn't smoke myself until much later in life. Though I knew that the fallacy that society created about this dumb, slow, not physically active fantasy was created, in the two words "pot head." Some of the most powerful people in the world have and still smoke cannabis. Some of the fastest and most capable individuals in sports have and still smoke cannabis. Cannabis is responsible for neurogenesis, which is the growth of brain cells not the demise of them. Cannabis has been shown to reduce the size of cancer all throughout the human body.

And to say that you don't know anyone who is a "pot head" just shows how blind you really are. You probably interact daily, habitually with people that you would never guess pull out a nice "roar" at the end of day and smoke while they work on things other than b.s. articles.

You have really missed the point you might want to read up a little before you spread slanderous lies I would suggest www.jackherer.com/chapters.html among other things. Though essentially there are two things that you should think about, alcohol and alcoholics have and will continue to kill people in this country and in this world. Cannabis has never killed one person, and this is why the country is so scared that there is nothing to fear but themselves and people like you (drunks, pill popping fools).

Well Mr. Donahoo, I am 100% sure that the "pothead" "species" is very well unknown to you. I would bet my life on the fact that you know at least 20 cannabis consumers but don't even know it. Why is that? Because you obviously think all cannabis consumers act the same way and they are all high all the time.

This is a piss poor "article" that the "author" wrote only about 1/4 and did some quick copy and pasting for the rest. Next time you write about something you might want to do some research about it.

I also want to thank you for this "article" as well. The more prohibitionists that speak up without being educated on the subject, the closer we get to legalization. Even the mainstream media is starting to realize all the "reefer madness" that people like you spew and how most of it is completly untrue.

Cannabis is safer than almost, if not all, every other drug out there, legal or not. The only thing dangerous about cannabis is 1. it's illegal and 2. the food you eat while high. Educate yourself Mr. Donahoo.

Why would a newspaper let some idiot plagiarize incorrect information and publish it as original? The newspaper responsible should be put out of business, and the 'reporter' should be ridden out of town on a rail. Never to be heard from again. Get rid of this dolt!

I didn't fight in VietNam just so idiots like this could lie to the public. I'm all for the first amendment, but the fourth Estate should mind it's own!

What have you been smoking to think that this is at all an articulate piece of writing? I guess it's perfectly valid to have differences with certain marijuana smokers, but everyone knows there are all different kinds of people that use marijuana for a variety of reasons, just like alcohol. If you were trying to make a point, it got lost in childish generalizations and stale jokes. I almost want to suggest this is a hoax because I can't see anyone who actually supports the current drug policy sitting down and choosing to express it in this manner and expect that to sway anyone.

It seems to me that this, either way, was just an effort to be controversial and provoke a response. Overall you just make yourself look juvenile, even to those who might support keeping marijuana illegal.

Wow.
This terribly written, completely unoriginal column is, to put it short, really offensive. I'll admit to lighting up everyday, but I break all your stereotypes. I'm a college-student with a paid internship at a really great company. I'm also a father with a very happy baby thanks to my beautiful fiance, who's finishing up culinary school and just scored a paid externship to start her career. She's also an incredibly responsible parent, and she's been able to achieve all of this more and she only turned 19 this month. She also smokes, but unlike your stoner stereotypes, she hates Cheech & Chong films and the Grateful Dead.
There's plenty of responsible marijuana users in society, and many of them have made it a part of their lifestyle. You've disrespected every one of them in the same way the members of the gay community would've been disrespected had you ridiculed the gay lifestyle instead.
In addition, have you taken the time to consider the impact the War on Drugs has had on our country and the global community. If you took the time to educate yourself of such matters, you'd find out that our prohibition of drugs is mirroring the prohibition of alcohol on a much greater scale. Think about the weight your views have on the countless lives that have been violated in some way by our prohibition on drugs. Think about pushing drugs into the legal market would remove it from the black market, forcing sellers to check for I.D., pay taxes, and abide by regulations.
Malcolm Donahoo is a joke of a writer that can't see anything if it's not right in front of him.

It's one thing for an individual to have these opinions and I am thankful that I live in a country where these opinions can be debated openly... Oh wait a second, the government doesn't like discussion on the alternatives to the war on drugs they have been fighting for the last 40-80 years...

What I don't understand is why a news agency promotes an opinion piece that is nothing more than dribble based on no facts and is nothing more than a few hateful words directed at a group of people, substitute 'pothead' for a race or gender and something like this would never see the light of day, but, poke fun at some people trying to beat cancer, aids, glaucoma, ect.

Those jokes are lame at best and have absolutley no application to potheads. Yes there are some stupid pot smokers, but there are pleanty of lazy, stupid, or useless people not smoking pot. I have smoked every day for a decade and have never been late for anything, never failed a class, never been on welfare, and have never been fired from a job. I get raises and promotions faster than all my peers bc I work my ass off. Those accomplishments have not been made bc I smoke pot, but because those traits are indicative of my character. There are pleanty of fully functional alcoholics, and there are pleanty that are complete fuck ups. Qualities of one's character are not determined by their choice of social relaxant.
